U-M tied with The U for most Super Bowl alum appearances
We're both at 122 player appearances. The remarkable thing about this stat and tweet link I'm posting is UCLA is in the top 10 and Bama (though they only recently became an absolute NFL factory) and OSU are not

So what your saying is that Michigan doesn’t just put players into the NFL - Michigan puts winners into the NFL.
February 15th, 2022 at 9:25 PM ^
Why is Michigan listed in 6th place when they are tied with Nebraska in 5th?
February 15th, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
I realized I used a source from 2019, updated to one from 2021.

I believe the news there is- they have more courtroom appearances than Super Bowl appearances.

Where is Troll U?

That face, yikes!
February 16th, 2022 at 8:57 AM ^
That’s the face of a coach of a “Top Seed” team that lost three of their last four games.

Pretty extraordinary how far ahead the top 3 are.

Here's the tweet:
As others have mentioned, surprising that Bama and OSU are missing, while UCLA is on the list. It is fair to mention that the time scope here is long, and Bama and OSU have been on their current hot stretches for relatively short periods... but they're both long-running elite powers. Alabama produced Joe Namath, for example.
UCLA, LSU, and Nebraska are the surprising ones on here. Nebraska has had sustained periods of elite play, but a lot of their best players don't leap off the page as future Super Bowl participants. And UCLA has been up and down for the entire Super Bowl era. LSU is surprising for the relative brevity of their position in college football's elite.
But there it is. A lot of players. We have a great program.

i'd be curious what the numbers would be if they did a 'total years' of appearances, meaning for each year an alum was in the super bowl you'd get a point. brady, heck, he'd count for 114 years.
February 16th, 2022 at 8:59 AM ^
This looks like it could be turned into one of those click bait stories. Number 8 will surprise you!
February 16th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
I think Miami is most surprising and really speaks to how much talent they put out in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s because they were not a good program in the 20 years of super bowls before and after that
February 16th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
Yes! I logged in to say much the same thing. That Michigan's at or near the top should surprise no one. But Miami? Wow. And how the mighty have fallen! Maybe Gattis helps bring them back.

Cool, I'd rather win championships
February 15th, 2022 at 11:46 PM ^
Well let us do both.
February 16th, 2022 at 11:13 AM ^
Yeah I’m not super sure what that stat means. I guess I should be happy that we are putting great players into the nfl, but maybe disappointed that we haven’t won more championships with all of that talent? Hell, Nebraska is on that list….I don’t have to tell you when they last “won” a NC do I?
February 16th, 2022 at 11:47 AM ^
I’m not super sure what that stat means
“I want to spin this fact into a negative, but am not super sure how.”
February 15th, 2022 at 11:11 PM ^
Is this 122 separate players or does Tom Brady count for 10 of the 122?
February 16th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
Someone who asks questions about how data is presented so as to make sure it isn’t being used to push a certain agenda? I like you.
February 16th, 2022 at 11:58 AM ^
I would suspect it counts for 10 of 122 which I think is the proper way to count this. A guy who made it to a Super Bowl riding the bench shouldn't count the same as someone who's been there 10 times
February 16th, 2022 at 1:51 AM ^
People care about these kind of things ?
February 16th, 2022 at 5:43 AM ^
Well, it brought you out of the woodworks obviously.
But to respond to your snark, yeah I’d guess recruits would be interested in information like this. That Michigan can not only get you to the pros, but it’s players have had great success once there.
February 16th, 2022 at 9:10 AM ^
Not so sure that recruits put a lot of emphasis on Super Bowl appearances as they do just getting to the NFL. The Super Bowl is more of a team accomplishment.
February 16th, 2022 at 10:03 AM ^
Michigan alums have a lock on Super Bowl MVP's for the foreseeable future.
February 16th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
I'd like to see the list of Michigan players. The football program should be blasting that info out.

This doesn't merit its own thread, but it's pretty spot on:
