Only the beginning.

4-star Michigan commit who was reconsidering after Hoke’s firing. Looks like he’s still on board. RT @Tkinnel_2: #team136

Harbaugh has shown that he's adaptable to different personnel, but if he intends to run an offense and defense similar to what he had at Stanford, I think Michigan has been recruiting his sort of players (particularly on offense). This will be a huge advantage on two fronts:

1) Very little transition cost on the field, a la RR, because personnel don't fit his style; and

2) Very little transition cost in recruiting, as JH is likely to want many, if not most, of the recruits Hoke et al were pursuing. The one significant difference I could see is if JH wanted to pursue more speed vs. size at skill positions, but that seems primarily a change in emphasis rather than a major overhaul.

Karma has shifted, and for once everything is coming together.

The guys currently on the roster have to be doing cartwheels. Peppers, Lewis, Issac, Butt, and the list goes on and on. Some of these guys will be going from "what did I get myself into" to "winning titles & climbing draft boards"

1745GMT --The National Important Information Service has issued a Major Harbaugh Warning

-A large Harbaugh formation will me moving east at a rapid rate.  All Spartans and Buckeyes should immediately seek shelter.  Dantonios and Meyers should expect to kiss their ass goodbye.  The Harbaugh is expected to arrive over the Midwest area, the focal point being Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the next 24 hours.    Turn into this channel frequently for further updates.  That is all.

But let's remember that JWYDH still has to win games. The initial hype and boost in the arm should be monumental but at the end of the day it will all be about what that win column states. JWYDH has the creds to make Michigan matter again and I truly hope he works his magic yet again and become Michigan's all time winning coach that includes bowl games and a few NC.

I'm not sure any kid that decommitted is safe, new pledge or just to wait & see. First, I'm not sure how Jim will feel about a kid that jumped ship because of performance. I think he'd see that as cowardice (not kidding) no matter how ok it is for the kid's sake. Second, I'm not sure what kind of kid Jim would want? He may not want him, made worse by the fact that he wasn't a solid UM verbal again until today. I want to think that his staff (especially with any holdovers) would honor verbals from the kids that stayed the course. The question (and immediate thing we'll see if he is the guy) is if he takes the "I don't want flakes" position or "once they're here it doesn't matter" position. We'll know if he takes a run at Weber, Harris, would dump a player for a chance at Rosen, etc. IMO, the time squeeze (if we get Jim) would sort of force him to honor those that stayed unless he goes on an insanely great recruiting run on studs. Even so, I think he makes room for Rosen if he's willing to come. He'll get his numbers but the talent will be the issue.

I would be pretty bummed if he yanked any of the kids' offers who stayed, even if for a Rosen type. As for the rest, I assume each case will be different. He'll have to evaluate all the recruits' merits based on talent and character. Some will still get offers, others maybe not. I think one of the biggest things he'll have to do is make a big board of his top recruits and start offering them in order, slowly. Given the small class, recruiting time crunch, and the size of the coaching hire here, he's likely to get multiple insta-commits

Hoke may not have been very goodi at winning games at Michigan, but it's pretty clear the kids loved him.  It was obvious Hoke was going to be fired, especially once Brandon was out, so they looked elsewhere.  Some of them may stay elsewhere, some may not.  But why should they stay true to a verbal commitment to a coach who isn't there?  That's not jumping ship.  That's just not getting on a ship labeled "Destination: Unknown."

If I had a son who committed to somewhere because of the coaching staff, and the coaching staff was not going to be there, I'd surely tell him to look around and see what other coaching staff's he liked, instead of wating 4, 6, maybe 8 weeks for the new one at the original school to be in place.  What if you didn't like the new coaches, or the new coach didn't like you?  No reason to wait until the middle of January to start looking around again, when there might be fewer spots available.

But it's easy to be holier-than-thou on the internet.

Just ridiculous. If a coach has so little empathy for what these kids go through, he'll never be a successful recruiter. None of those kids did anything to burn their bridges back here.

Not being willing to poach recruits who had been commited elsewhere puts you at a major disadvantage  These days is there a single coach at a major program that doesn't at least try? I doubt it.

Not honoring the offers to current commits wouldn't be worth the cost in bad publicity and loss of goodwill in recruiting. I expect all the recruits who had offers outstanding have been told to be patient. One of the top priorities of the recruiting director will be to let those kids know whether those offers are still valid. I'd bet the de-commits would all be welcomed back. In fact, several of them would seem to be priorities.

Yes, Harbaugh is not going to "punish" kids who were just looking out for their futures.

What he will do however, is make sure that they understand his unique style and requirements before they re-commit.  He knows he has a different style than Hoke, and he will make sure that recruits understand that before signing with Michigan.

never said he would but that we don't know & we'll know soon. He may come in with the "you have your word only to back out?" mentality or "nothing matters as long as you get them here". Heck, he may not like him as a player? My point was we don't know but my main wound up at the end of the thread (at least in app view). Hope this stays in discussion like most of the time.

I never said it wasn't completely ok for a kid to do what was best for him! The opposite, in fact! Yet, Jim is not your normal guy and it's in good and not so good ways. Miggle, many coaches have refused kids that jumped ship but wanted back on. By default, "cowardice" (a lack of faith in the institution, in the sense) is certainly a reason why in many cases. I can quote coaches that gave used that exact word. I'm not saying Jim will think that, I said we'll see. I never called a kid a coward but how he may be viewed. Jeff, it would be a shame if we didn't honor the verbal if those that stayed on. I agree. Yet, that's what we'll see about Jim (if our guy) when he starts his job of filling this class. He may not like *insert one of 7 here*. This was not his class but if GMatt stays on I think it will help. All I stated is that we don't know what Jim will go after. I say WHAT in regard to everything: player, type, talent level, grades, verbal, decommit, uncommitted, etc. We.Dont.Know. We're not Stanford coming off a single win season. We're not San Diego. He'll have very little time. We don't know is all I'm saying. He may not want him based on having decommitted and he may not care! He may not consider him a player he wants for another reason. He may LOVE him! WE.DON'T.KNOW. That's all.
