TTU Recruits

The List of Commits I didn't spot anyone on the list we went strongly after or anyone we really would go strongly after. There is going to be a massive wave of decommits though I feel.

"I've been talking to schools just in case something like this happened because you never know what is going to happen. I've been staying in contact with LSU, Cincinnati, Louisville, Florida, Miami and West Virginia," Boone said. "All I can do is take this in, get home or talk to my parents, get their reaction and go from there. The only thing I can do is sit back, talk to the Tech coaches and talk to my parents." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=4782712

This situation seems too ridiculous to be real. Why aren't the trainers suspended. Why did the university request a letter of apology and only opened the inquiry after he didn't respond.

The admins there heartily deserve to watch a mass exodus of not only recruits, but players who now know that a disgruntled POS can get a coach fired for what is turning out to be no reason. Besides the fact that a good coach is going to suffer a hit to his wallet and probably his reputation because of this, I am quite irritated that this could cause the players to go "FTS" against MSU, thus allowing a "Saint Dantonio's brave team rises from the ashes because of their character" story. If MSU beats Tech as a result of this, I am going to either keep a vomit bag by my chair or move my TV to the bathroom. It also creates mixed emotions for me. The Tech players deserve a win, but the administration deserves to watch their team get blown out. It will be exceedingly difficult for me to keep the glass "half-full" while watching this game.

Given various assistants were supporting Leach, it seems like TTU has also set themselves up for a massive staff exodus. I forsee a RR kind of thing, where a lot of the staff migrates with Leach.

Things we (probably) know: 1. Mike Leach did actually make a player stand in a room for three hours with a concussion. 2. This kid has a Boren-esque reputation with regards to work ethic. This makes both Leach and James look bad. However, based on Leach's subsequent actions (refusing to sign a policy outlining reasonable regulations for the treatment of injured players) and the fact that he was fired, I am inclined to believe that he did something very wrong. Of course, one should consider that Leach didn't ever get along with the university administration, but at the same time, I doubt that they would fire him unless they were reasonably confident that they had legal cause, considering the inevitable lawsuit and heavy publicity surrounding the case.

Considering that this is a Michigan sports blog, a "How Does this Affect Michigan" thread isn't exactly out of place when you consider that this firing speaks to the broader question of what counts as acceptable with regard to injuries, a coach's relationship with his players, and what a coach can do in practices. So yes, this actually does affect Michigan, albeit indirectly.

I think the greatest way this affects Michigan recruits is that they are happy knowing they are going to a school that is behind its coach. Although unforseen things can and do happen, Michigan is not going to undergo a coaching change. With the recent events of Meyer and Leach and hopefully some NCAA sanctions against USC, recuits will not de-commit from Michigan and we will continue to close on the last few hold-outs of the class.
