Chalk one up for Coach B., reeling in Ohio's Mr. Basketball. And also for Trey, obviously a quality kid for choosing Michigan despite being from the wrong state. The future's so bright I gotta wear shades!

On another note, tonight is not worthy of a drinking thread, but i'm on the liquor hard. One of my best friends is making is NHL debut tonight. So if you happen to catch the Calgary vs. San Jose game at 10pm, spread some good karma for my pal and cheer for Greg Nemisz on Calgary. I realize that this isn't relevant the thread, but I am very excited about it.

He's already ranked pretty high, and is highly scouted so its not like the services haven't seen him. Having said that, this certainly can't hurt.

The idea of winning Mr. Basketball as a sophomore is ridiculous. Not saying he didn't deserve, but can you imagine being a great senior basketball player and losing the award to this sophomore who seems like he's from a different planet?

His game looked a lot like his cousin's when I watched his film.  Goes to the basket hard so he'll help our ft attempts per game.

didn't come on board because then it could have been "Trey to Trey for Trey ... got it!"   Congrats, Trey Burke.

I like that both he and Brudidge can be worked in slowly next year (versus recent history with freshmen being counted on early to not just play but produce.)

Speaking of Trey Ziegler, I didn't see him play this year but looked like he had a very solid freshman campaign with the Chips.

The AP story is much better in that regard:

Besides being a great scorer, team leader, big winner and the 2011 Associated Press Mr. Basketball award winner, Columbus Northland's Trey Burke is one courageous young man.

A University of Michigan signee, the 6-foot-1 point guard wears his maize and blue everywhere around Ohio's capital city. Needless to say, some people take umbrage at a Michigan fan in the heart of Ohio State country.

"They try to give me a hard time here when I go to the store or to the barbershop or something like that," Burke said with a laugh. "But I know it's all love at the end of the day. I'm going to have a lot of support from a lot of family and friends when I go there."

I can't recall where I saw this, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Beilein said earlier this year that Burke was Michigan's first scholarship player out of Ohio in a very long time--possibly going back to Eric Riley (1990-93). Pretty nice to nab Ohio's Mr. Basketball when Michigan has had such little success recruiting in that state.

Can't wait to get him on the court. One of the biggest problems we had this season IMO was not having a true point guard to back up darius. Stu is a great ball handler, but it looks like sometimes he has trouble getting into a rhythm when he goes from 2 guard to point during a game. I was hoping corey person would back up darius this season, but i guess he didn't develope like a few of the players from last year thought he would.
