landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Mallet bugs me a lot but he was actually positive about RR and just said he did it for himself. Now Boren looks like he left based upon the effort the different scheme would have required. The NFL took note no doubt
I think it was a combination of unwillingness to meet Barwis' standards and his brother wasn't offered by RR.
Justin better get the plow business goin. He'll have two brothers joining the business soon.
A lot of great college players don't get drafted.
Aren't self focused pricks who burn bridges for headlines and tLULz, all the while regressing while former management converts a perhaps less athletically gifted player into draft material.
Is Schilling the guy you're referring to as less athletically gifted? Remember - Schilling was the 5 star, while Boren was a 4 star. A high 4 star I believe, but Schilling was the higher rated prospect.
EDIT: Rivals had Schilling as the #26 overall player nationally, while Boren was #64.
DOUBLE EDIT: That made Schilling the second highest rated recruit in that class, behind BG. Carlos Brown was #3 and Mouton was #4. For those who doubt the recruiting rankings, that's pretty dead on.
Sorry for hitting Moderate. Actually meant to mark Insightful.
I don't like or respect Boren. But a three year starter for OSU is a great college player, like it it not. But hopefully no NFL career as a free agent
Sorry to disagree, but most of the starters for that school haven't been "great". Given the level of talent they recruit, the o-lines of the last few years have fallen far shor tof expectations.
After sitting out a year Boren was a two year starter.
He's part of the rebel alliance and a traitor. Take him away.
He's acting like Boren is some heinous monster for leaving us, trashing Rich Rod, going to OSU, whatever, plus he's acting like we're vindicated because Boren wasn't drafted, even though his team has kicked our ass while he was there. Gloating over Boren would be immature if it wasn't so asinine. I just wanted to use that line.
I'd like to think they are the Galactic Empire and we're the Rebel Alliance, especially in light of all the evil doings taking place right now in Courasant, err Columbus.
SI has Martell Web rated higher than Boren. FU boren. so glad he did not get drafted. SI says "Boren looked like a top center prospect as a sophomore with Michigan then showed signs of potential at guard after transferring to Ohio State. He comes off a very disappointing senior campaign and is likely to fall out of the draft."
At least he already has a job lined up in the mean time plowing snow and mowing lawns for the old man.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer person. And by "nicer" I mean "Douchebaggier."
to overcome the doubts his actions caused. Why bother when you can pick somebody else
You question THIS GUY's work ethic?
Justin Boren had a brief cameo on Invader Zim
Karma is a bitch, isn't it, Boren? Fuck that lazy, whiny fatass.
I don't know who is busy negging your business but Karma is a bitch. I don't see the redundancy in that at all. The kid complained bitterly while throwing both RichRod and the program under the bus. Family values gets you not drafted, asshat. Suck on that Mike Boren.
I will see you at the tollbooth. You know which one.
has been hired as a PR man for Krispy Kream donuts.
Boren thought the saying was "Those who EAT will be champions"
Lies the fact that we really could have used this guy back in 2008 and 2009.
Leaving your team at its low-point, when it needs you most, and for its archrival...while throwing haymakers at the new coach as you close the door...wow.
I'm not trying to be the best at exercising.
Who is this Boren person and what concern is he to the world?
What I don't understand is when he was here he seemed to have some promise as a good player, and got playing time as a freshman(not sure if he redshirted, I assume he did because OL). He also seemed to get praise from practice at OSU while he was forced to sit out due to transfering. So does he have the abilities to be good in college but not in the NFL, did his character lower his draft status, or does OSU just do a terrible job coaching their OL?
I recall a few really good Oline classes for OSU and there seems to be very little NFL calliber talent from those groups 5 years later.
NFL offensive lines are generally taller than in the NCAA and have to demonstrate much more versatile skillsets.
Boren was a solid, if unspectacular guard for OSU.
He's shorter than average for an NFL offensive lineman.
He apparently has some trouble in pass protection against athletic defensive linemen.
And, here's my favorite part:
"Plays angry on the field but his mental makeup is in question after a transfer from Michigan."
That is indeed good reason for questioning someone's mental makeup.
He played as a true Freshman. Then he started all 13 games in 2007. His red shirt year was after he transferred.
Maybe Mr. Plow will make an NFL team as a free agent. As others have noted, starting on the OSU O-line (excepting, perhaps, that Florida game) for three years isn't too shabby.
What I like best about this result, though, is that we might finally be done hearing/reading "Justin Boren, who transferred from Michigan after Rich Rodriguez was hired as coach BLAH BLAH BLAH ..."
Everyone knows that the NFL has no family values.
about players that play for Michigan
I think it's safe to say Boren is NOT a Michigan Man.
New cardio program at TSIO: run around the horseshoe ten times or run around Justin Boren once.
It's a shame a good Michigan Man's name like Boren (Mike) had to be tarnished by this turd son of his.
It's not like Mike Boren was such a good Michigan Man through all of this either. And now he's sending his last son to OSU even though Rodriguez (his supposed problem with his alma mater) is gone.
he'd have ex-communicated Mike Boren for spawning 3 Buckeye's. That, and letting his fat, worthless son leave here in the classless manner he did. I doubt Mike Boren would be welcomed with open arms at any player reunions.
I don't care about Boren... he transferred years ago. it's done
Boren will make it in the NFL. Their parking lots need to be plowed too.
Knowing Boren while he was there...this is deserved. And funny. And right.
Schillig failed the eyde test witha finaly answer of get in my belly!
Aka fat bastard....
He said I'll be your hucklberry for a tattoo
and I mean well done in classic manner of that 72oz steak you just ordered, you know with the jumbo baked potato and fixins, the gigantic salad with a whole tomato and a gallon of ranch dressing. And not to forget the 1/2 loaf of bread that goes with it. Mmmmmmmmmm. That tastes good, its called KARMA bitch and you just sat in a steeeeeemmmmmmmiiiinnnnggggggg pile of it.
disclaimer: ranch dressing is the best food topper in the world!
what's a 'fixin'?
I too voted you as insightful, since ranch dressing is indeed the best food topper in the world! Oh, and Boren....haha.
My grass needs mowing and I pay in doughnuts. As many as you want!
People get what they deserve.
Seriously? A young man changes his mind about what school he wishes to attend and we mock him and cheer the fact he isn't a millionaire? Sounds like a similar event that happened to a coach from West Virginia. I guess my pride isn't measured by the lack of sucess by others.
People act like it's a personal insult.
If ever there was cause for payback, this is it. The Boren family freaked out because Michigan didn't give Zach a scholarship offer. And PULLED Justin out of the Michigan program.
I'd say that much is the family's right, if that much was made clear to everyone. Mike Boren did sort of admit as much when he was quoted saying, "I will not have my two sons playing at two different universities."
But that's not the problem. The problem was the Boren family press release, cryptically blaming Justin's departure on an "erosion of family values at Michigan." And then refusing to answer questions on what the hell that was supposed to mean.
Michigan didn't offer Zach for the simple reason that Michigan didn't need a fullback. In the end, things worked out just fine for the Borens. But the "family values" meme haunted the Rodriguez staff for the rest of the time they were at Michigan. Unfairly. Without reason.
If you want to blame Mike and Hope Boren and single them out, under the presumption that Justin simply did what he was told to do by his dad and his mom, I'm actually okay with that.
But your post is the Fail of the Day.
The Borens deserve every measure of bad will they are now getting from Ann Arbor. If Mike Boren is now welcomed back into the "Michigan Family," or whatever catch-phrase anybody cares to use, I think I might throw up.
that I've heard twice already here in picktown is that RR swore too much for Justin's ears. Sheesh, where will you go to find a coach who doesn't swear? (well maybe the vest just lies instead of swearing...)
I hold no ill will toward people who choose to attend other schools. I hope Ray Vinopal and Cullen Christian have great careers at Pitt. I will always be a Sam McGuffie fan. I even have a soft spot for Ryan Mallett's crazy ass, and I don't think I even like him very much as a person.
What Boren did was different. He didn't just "change his mind." And it wasn't just that he transfered to Ohio State (which, yeah, FOAD). It was that he lit the town on fire on the way out:
Michigan football was a family, built on mutual respect and support for each other from Coach Carr on down. . . I have great trouble accepting that those family values have eroded in just a few months.
Resulting in a shit-ton of these stories:
Then, he CONTINUED to be a dick about it after he left:
I'm sleeping fine tonight.
we all know that Carr recruited Boren right?
we all know that Carr recruited Boren right?
wait, OG? Boren ain't no trill OG... oh "Offensive Guard", got it.
The schadenfreude is truly like a fine aged wine. But I can't help but think...like a bad horror movie, this isn't over yet.
As soon as you get too comfortable you will take a glance at your most hated team's roster just before the season starts, and find Justin Boren's name.
Besides, I'm sure he'd fight like hell for a shot at an NFL buffet table.
He majored in criminology according to his bio, so beware when driving through Pickerington if he decides to become the Chief Wiggums of his town.
I'll give him credit though he didn't major in "Exploring" like another Buckeye.
WTF is this???
Exploring new pawn and tatoo parlors maybe?
I hadn't kept up on his pre-draft evaluations by NFL scouts, but I would have assumed he would have been graded high enough to draft in the later rounds. Considering that he was good enough to start as a pure freshmen, this has to sting in a major way for the Boren family, especially head asshat Mike Boren.
My belief is that Michigan wasn't truly Justin's real preference in the first place. He grew up in Pickerington, a close suburb to Columbus, and this exchange between Bo and his father is particularly revealing:
"You're not going to let Justin go to Ohio State, are you?" Schembechler asked Mike Boren."He's going to make his own decision," Mike replied."
The fact that Mike Boren, who played for Bo against Michigan's most hated rival, regarded his son's attendance at Ohio State as perfectly acceptable indicates that the Boren family's "allegiance" to Michigan was very thin to begin with. That's why he found it so easy to leave, and the family outrage over Zach not being offered by RR just added fuel to the fire.
I hope this is the last time I'll ever comment about Justin Boren, unless it's to evaluate the quality of snow removal companies in the greater Columbus area.
I don't normally direct vitriol at college athletes, but in this case, the traitor gets his just reward.
Boren called out Michigan for losing what Michigan is known for having and that was Family. We will never lose our family... Herbstreit lost his and that will never happen at Michigan. Boren was an arrogant bastard that got what he deserved.
that name again is Mr. Plow
He has to rely on that thing they call a degree... from tOSU... <shudder>
At the first week of practice during RR's new tenure the coach brought out a few players to talk to the media. They were sitting at tables scattered throughout the large, upstairs room at Schembechler. A few reporters were talking to Boren but they drifted off---reporters often seem least interested in the OL.
I sat down across from Boren. Noone else was at the table. He didn't look at at me. I asked him about the pace of the new offense. He said, "The truth is I don't like it at all. I like to take time off between plays....I prefer huddles." He never lifted his eyes.
I then asked about Mike Barwis, expecting a more positive response. He paused for a long time. "The weight work is fine. But I just can't get used to the running....on the whole, I don't like it at all. The running..." The answer lingered, unfinished. He was clearly unhappy, miserable. I felt terribly for him.
Do I think Justin Boren is traitorous? Yes. A legacy transferring to (even) MSU would be one thing. But to OSU? But what would I think if he was an AA kid who had decided to come back home? Would I then feel the same way?
I wanted to ask Boren about the new zone (versus the old zone) and the interstices of the new blocking. But he was just in too much pain. He never looked up.
So, I am ambivalent. He was a person struggling and in pain and, in this, I have tried to forgive his choices. I wish him no ill. Schadenfreude can be satsifying, but I have a hard time working up to it here, though my rational mind wants to go there.
