Today's Schedule of Games

Submitted by M-Dog on October 16th, 2021 at 11:44 AM

This isn't just a bye week for Michigan, it's also a bye week for quality matchups.  Not much to plan on ahead of time.  This is a week to do chores, er, a week to keep an eye on the scoreboard and see which matches wind up actually being compelling as they are already underway.

So today is a day for some creative watching:

At noon I will be doing the same thing as the entire Michigan coaching staff and all of the Michigan players:  Watching Michigan State - Indiana to see how good MSU really is / really is not.  Indiana is not a useful surrogate for Michigan as a comparable opponent, but it's all we've got.

Also at noon, a random stew of curious ingredients:  Oklahoma State - Texas could be interesting.  If nothing but to see what Mr. Worthy does. *sigh*.  I'll check in on UCF - Cincinnati to see how the Bearcats handle success.  I will also keep a side eye on Florida - LSU.  I sense a surprise there.  Meanwhile, Texas A&M - Missouri is the trappiest of trap games.  But sometimes a team is just better (A&M) even at a half-assed pace.  Also Nebraska - Minnesota.  Nebraska will beat Minnesota even though they will still trip over themselves in the process.

At 3:30, the "headline" game: Kentucky - Georgia.  But I'm not sure if the headline-level interest of this game even lasts until halftime.  Georgia slowly and methodically strangles Kentucky.

At night at 7:30:  TCU - Oklahoma could be a surprise.  Oklahoma has still not come down to earth.  And they will have to deal with the off-the-bench-QB thing where a QB comes off the bench with no notice, wins a big game, and looks like a star . . . and then gets a week to think about it when he realizes he is the starter now.  A lot of those don't end up well.

Also at night at 7:30:  I think I'll check in on the first 5 minutes of 'Ole Miss - Tennessee to see how pleasantly the Vol's welcome back their 'Ole buddy Lane Kiffin.

Also at night at 8:00:  I will NOT watch Army - Wisconsin.  If for some bizarre reason I feel the need to check in on it, I will listen to it with my Grandpa's 1952 vacuum tube RCA radio, the way God intended.

Late night at 10:00:  Your Pac 12 After Dark Special - meaningless, crazy football just for the fun of it - Arizona State - Utah.  This is the kind of game where Utah gets them in 3 OTs.

This was great, you gave me some ideas about what to watch today, and that army joke was funny enough that I legitimately laughed out loud.

Posts like this are why this forum is worth hanging around.

I want MSU to lose for sure overall, but two weeks before us, I don't think a loss is good. I'd prefer a painful slog against Indiana that they win so we can beat them. They'd have two weeks in anger and fury.

And I don't blame you. It's not that I want us to have the glory of giving them their first loss. It's that I think of they are undefeated they will be more cocky and less angry. If they lose, they will be more focused on their super bowl against us. To be fair, it's all they ever care about.

I wonder if bringing in transfers diminishes the typical anger they have towards us... Less home grown (roids) guys

This is a great week for Michigan to have a bye because the other matchups suck today so it's a primo weekend for getting a lot of chores done before winter. Best game today will probably be Okie State Texas? Great weekend for us fans to take a bye as well

Sparty bob clock game, tripping Desmond on two pt conversion, trouble with the snap, john okorn.

let’s not forget the games we’ve needed near miracles to beat them. Even the wins…I can only think of a couple easy wins over them ever. 2006, 2016, and 2019 come to mind. That’s pretty much it for the last 20 years that have been comfortable wins over them.

I'm with you. None of the games really grab my attention. If I watch, it'll be mostly because I sit down and notice the TV remote next to me.

BTW, listing the games is a LOT of work. Not UFR-level of work but still it's a bunch.

Your comment on the Army-Wisconsin game? Niiiiice

Nebraska in the process of losing to Michigan twice versus Minnesota today. I'd prefer that Frosty's boys pull this one out for Michigan's SOS, but them missing a bowl yet again would also be hilarious.
