Should be an interesting matchup seeing the Miss. St. run offense go up against the LSU D.
Thursday Night SEC Open Thread
offensive linemen going down like flies here. Hopefully its not serious and they come back into the game.
All I hear is cowbells, an alleged hooker murderer (which is tru[e]ly unfounded and unsubstantiated) and a pretty boy named Capt. Obvious.
I love college football on Thursday... But I do not like the annoucer choice...
Somebody failed 4th grade English.
Maybe English isn't his first language?
I bet you are a fan of ball-in-a-cup, aren't you?
Agreed. Craig James is bad enough then they choose to pair him with Rece Davis and Jesse Palmer.
Too bad that ESPN can't put the A-squad out there all the time. James, Davis and Palmer are the Y squad, I think. "Yes, you cover that game over there..."
Clock management issues in the 1st quarter?!?!
All I know is watching all this eess eee ceee speed running 3 yds and a cloud of dust is really confusing me.
Pam loses in all categories. In any poll. On any given day. That is all.
Berlusconi's recent line about Merkel is pretty much how I feel about Pam Ward
Pam because she's forced to talk more being the play-by-play announcer. And she just flat out sucks.
Pam is bad, but I cant stand listening to Craig James
Is tearing up the LSU defense. Would love to see what Denard could do.
Relf presents a bit of a different threat with his size/durability (4 inches and at least 50 pounds on Denard). Also, MSU runs those outside zone read options (pitch or keeper), which stretches LSU horizontally and enables Relf to run a draw effectively from the zone-read positioning.
None of this is to say that Denard, with a coordinator calling plays perfectly tailored to our team, couldn't do serious damage to any given team on any given day. He clearly could. But LSU has a freakish defensive line and quite a bit of talent all around.
I'm not sure at what point in the game you posted that, but I don't think it was true at any point. They scored 6 points? I spent the entire game thinking, damn, LSU's D is f-ing awesome.
I hate when announcers refer to a kick as being "true". Bothers the fuck out of me for some reason.
Same. If a field goal was false, it would be fake, am I wrong? What does it all mean?
I'm not sure watching both these teams if they are just good on defense or if those offenses really are that bad. Both teams seemingly take forever to get down the field, and don't have that many playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. And yeah, I remember the bowl game last year, but maybe that was the outlier in MSU's offensive outputs.
So im new to MGOBLOG but.... I was wondering why no one ever talks about running the option with denard from under center, like Nebraska does, to at least have the threat of a QB run when under center... Seems like it might be a good idea if they really want to get away from the shotgun
Well, I think we should put Denard and Tate in the backfield together. What? Oh sorry.
Football is played on Saturday.
And Fridays, and Sundays, and Mondays
And if you're in the MAC, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
But if you know most of your students will get drunk and rowdy on Thursday, why the heck not get them packed into a stadium to scream at players from Louisiana?
I watch LSU purely for watching DL play. It's fantastic year-in and year-out
Their DL's are always awesome. But it wasn't so long ago we had DL's like that.
And I don't think it'll be too long before we have great DL play every year.
I tune in for the grass eating.
At some point Miss St. is gonna have to bring their corners in from the parking lot..
6 to 3 LSU
...as I was putting my son to bed. This game is a real nailbiter. Who will score the final "feel gull"? Stay tuned. Afterwards, Jesse Palmer provides extensive analysis of Division I kickers...
Not featured: Seth Broekhuizen of Michigan.
an interesting tshirt on a rather larger MSU coed..."Let's bust a nutt doggie style". Would have been more interesting if her waist size wasn't twice mine.
Pitchman for Ann Arbor State Bank. Looks like someone got himself a small business loan.
The first time I see some 4th string QB on the Michigan sideline hold up a 4' x4' sign with an apple, a pictue of Nixon, Fred Flinstone, and the letter Q....I'm out
Why did you call a time-out before Miss State punted, then take a knee and go to halftime? What was the point of saving those 7 seconds to kneel? Were you still chewing your last mouthfull of grass or something?
Who writes Dr. Lou's speeches? They are not good.
The Notre Dame Communications Department faxes them in.
I'm a history grad student, and listening to Lou Holtz talk about World War II nearly gave me a stroke.
Just curious... What does one do with a history degree?
Quite a lot. Teach, work in government, work in the private sector. Pretty much anything you want to do with it (except for the obvious building bridges and such).
Maybe that's his goal! If you have a stroke, you might develop a lithp and then you could take over for him!
It is humors to me how inaccurate spotting the ball can be. There is no way that the official knows that the ball went out exactly on the 40 yard line on that punt. Same thing when a player is tackled in a huge mass of players. Yet after the play the official will throw the ball accross the field to be placed at midfield, then have the chains run all the way accross the field to measure for a first down. There has to be a more accurate way to determine spotting the ball.
This has always bugged me! Let's make a wild-ass guess, then take a very precise measurement of that wild-ass guess.
MSU receiver gave up on the play.... Thankful for the way our receivers played last week!!
Mississippi State cancelled all classes on Thursday to accommodate a "major athletic event" as the No. 25 Bulldogs host the No. 3 Louisiana State Tigers in a Southeastern Conference football game, the university said.
Wouldn't it have been better to cancel classes on Friday? My guess is that most students won't make it anyway.
Has this game been as dreadfully dull as the box score would seem to indicate?
Constant injuries and penalties, so yes
I'm late to the thread but MSU students in costumes have made me LOL on three occasions tonight
-MSUblock text mask
-Pom-Pom man after the fg that tied it 6-6
Wait, you're supposed to kick it between the posts?
So...why was that punt a touchback?
Ball crossed the plane of the goal line. One of those places where the college and NFL rules differ.
I think the main thing thats lead to the SEC's success is the defensive line. It's very tough for teams to move when the two deep on the d line for LSU and company is better than most schools starters.
Theres a 5A School in Louisiana, West Monroe, their d line a few seasons ago averaged around 315 lbs. But all around high school football in Louisiana is amazing and they have that state locked down. Heres some Louisiana football players:
just to name a few
At 30 with 35 seconds left concede without trying to get a quick score and onside kick?
Did I just see that?
Hell Denard would have called that situation "too easy" and spotted LSU another TD.
