Thursday Night NCAA Football Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

For those in search of college football, there is some ACCtion on tonight.

Clemson takes on North Carolina State at 7:30 PM tonight on ESPN. Massey is giving Clemson an 84% estimated probability of the win and a predicted score of 41-27.

Again, perhaps not the most compelling game but it is football.

Thursday night NFL as well with the Eagles taking on the Chiefs. It will be Andy Reid's return to Philly. Looks like he is getting a warm welcome from the Eagles crowd for his many years of service.

Clemson managed 123 yards of offense at a clip of 4.24 yards per snap with a net result of 3 points. The question before the thread is this - does that portend a Clemsoning later in this game?

I can't help but notice that the Wolfpack sort of threw up the Tigers that they were nibbling on for a moment there.

NC State outgaining Clemson on a per down basis and yet they are down by six now. I am going to go out on a limb and say you are not watching the #3 team in Clemson here.

Well, their win over UGA was pretty impressive.  And they are playing a conference opponent on the road on Thursday night.

Of course, I am not usually this forgiving of highly-ranked teams that struggle against inferior opponents.  I wonder why I am seeing this situation differently...

The Wolfpack are 0-7 now on third downs, so yeah, they might very well need to just go for broke on the few first downs they might still get or hope Clemson's kick coverage has one collective fainting spell on a return here.

....or they could perhaps make this terrible call a moot point.

That's all they'll need.  Unless NCST can get it together after getting screwed and play as hard as they did the first half for the rest of the game.  If Clemson plays Lloyd ball that could open the door to a comeback.

That makes eight penalties for 54 yards for the Wolfpack if my count is correct, and that includes that last drive where they sort of machine gunned themselves in the foot with false starts. There's a drive I bet Dave Doeren would like to have back.

overturned that call. It was a fuck up of the highest order.           On my worry list:  SEC speed is real, and Urban is copying their recruiting.  Almost every team in that league has one, a few have two or three that can take a 10 yard hitch and use their freakish speed to simply leave defenders in their (what replaced dust once turf was installed?) Hope Campbell and Harris have speed of this nature. That would keep us close in terms of talent. Still think we're a bit ahead of them defensively based on who Mattison will have ready for them during next ten year war. Of course should we win a couple back-to-back Urban will contract another health scare.
