Texas DE/LB Holmes Onwukaife committed!

No inside info here. Just headline reading But Rivals seems to be suggesting that Texas DE/LB Holmes Onwukaife has said that he committed to Michigan. Appears to be a 3 star on both scout and rivals. Rivals lists him as Weakside DE Cedar Park (TX) Cedar Park Ht: 6-foot-3 Wt: 220 lbs Forty: 4.51 secs Bench max: 315 pounds Vertical: 33 inches Shuttle: 4.28 secs GPA: 3.3 SAT: 1340 Edit: Tom just confirmed it, so I figured I would change the title to reflect as such.

Am I the only one here who is calling bullshit on that SAT score. If that is true (which I guess it probably is), then this is one smart MF'er. No problem qualifying here, Myron Rolle.

I find it weird that you would call bullshit on a test score. SAT scores are not subjective. They are a matter of record. They aren't in the same category as 40 times that are hand-timed by biased coaches. Be careful that something like that doesn't come off sounding different than what you intended.

All scholarships are need-based, but that tends to mean Amaker "needs" a center or the football team "needs" at LB. If the kid has decent grades (my neighbor was recruited for BBall because he was 6'8" and had a 31 ACT), he'll get some buzz from the Ivies.

Tom, Scout says "he wants to commit but hasn't officially been offered." Sometimes Scout says those sorts of things so it doesn't appear like they were beaten to the punch. Is this one of those situations or is it really offically offered and accepted?

I know it sounds arrogant, but I'm secretly happy when UM recruits kids with offers from other high-ranking academic institutions (though the Harvard offer is obviously pretty impressive). After hearing about so many kids barely qualifying and/or outright cheating to play college sports (Memphis), it is nice to see that at least a few kids can be good at sports AND in the classroom. I'm usually pretty cynical about college sports, but it feels like a win for UM when they nab a smart kid.

I like your site. I agree with your assessment on his tackling. He tries to spin guys to the ground too much, and not enough driving through a tackle. I saw very few times where he drove the ball carrier at all. Hopefully he learns that. Your prediction for ILB is interesting and makes a lot of sense to me. We don't have many prospects at all for ILB, and he size is more suited for that than the Deathbacker.

another, he needs to develop some quicks; perhaps it's his size, but he appears to lumber around. Like was mentioned previously, the arm tackling...well, he'd fit right in with last year's squad. I'm not trying to be too critical of the young man but I believe 'raw' is an accurate descriptor; I guess we'll see what he can do in a couple years.

Do you really see them using Onwukaife inside? From very little video surfing, I got the impression that Onwukaife would be a better Quick project and moving Paskorz to ILB.

Yeah, I definitely see Onwukaife as a better ILB prospect than Paskorz. Paskorz doesn't move well laterally, plays very high, and he looks every bit of his listed 6'3". Onwukaife moves better from sideline to sideline, isn't quite as stiff, and he looks like he's about 6'1". I don't have any inside information that says they would move Onwukaife to ILB. It's just deductive reasoning on my part.
