That $5000 fine is going to sting

Also, I found this sanction quite odd:

An off-campus recruiting ban for the entire football coaching staff for November 2019, which reduced the permissible evaluation days for the 2019-20 academic year by 19.

I often don't know what date it is, but the year is definitely 2020.  A November 2019 off-campus recruiting ban seems....late?

Thanks.  Didn't initially catch that.   I obviously read that snippet and instantly reacted with the "NCAA is so inept" mantra.    I guess it makes sense now.

But I still don't know how A&M will recover from the $5,000 fine.    That lofty financial penalty will surely serve as a deterrent going forward!

Not making accusations, but I've long seen smoke in a number of HCs in Saban's coaching tree. A number of them, Saban, Fisher, Smart, and Pruitt all signed top 5 classes before ever winning more than 8 games or any championship.

I'm guessing the coaches do more than what Fisher was accused of. I'm assuming an elaborate system of payments for top recruits and players with the coach's OK, but without any knowledge of specifics for plausible deniability. How else do you consistently sign top 5 classes prior to ever winning at multiple places? It seems like too much of a coincidence that they all did it, all coach in the south, and all coached under Saban.

Hugh Freeze says 'Hi'!  You don't need an old-boy coaching network to setup a pay scheme...  Of course, Hugh's wasn't to bright, what with the Dir of Football Operations making the actual payments after setting up meetings via text message.  LOL!!  Not all coaches are as smart as others!

Maybe you should email your concerns to Alabama's compliance office?

I'm not saying they're the only ones. Obviously you've got Freeze, Tressel, and Carroll. But, if a first time HC (Pruitt, Smart, & Fisher at FSU) signs a top 5 class before winning more than 8 games that's a sign to me. Then, if a coach leaves after a drop-off off at his previous stop (Saban at Bama & Fisher at TAMU) and he immediately signs a top class again without winning there yet that's another sign. Then consider they all coached under Saban. Well, that's a lot of bread crumbs that lead to a high probability of recruiting violations.

Texas A&M, at least since Jimbo got there, is throwing cash around like there is no tomorrow.  Local CFB talk shows in SEC country talk openly about Texas A&M, Georgia and Tennessee throwing bag around to try and compete with BAMA and LSU.

These "sanctions" are the equivalent of arresting Al Capone for spitting on the sidewalk.

  • The university ended its recruitment of the prospect.
  • A ban on recruiting any prospects from the prospect's high school for the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-222 academic years.

This makes little sense to me.  Sucks for any player at that school whose dream it was to play for TAMU

They can still go to TAMU, and even receive a scholarship.  But TAMU cannot go to the school and tell the kid he's wanted, or even to watch him play.  They can watch film, and he can call to talk with them.  So it doesn't really stop anyone from going there.  Technically.

I thought a show-cause was a death penalty -- like, didn't Kelley leave Oregon because a show-cause was coming and he would've been automatically fired anyways? What gives?
