Does the M Den have anything left in it after your visit?
I went pretty light today. only got 5 things.
i expect a lot more from you... I am disappointed.
So you are still in High School right? I take it from the AA area? Is you dad/mom a pretty wealthy alum?
Are you going to Michigan?
WD - if you answer this with "im not worthy to attend Michigan" again, I will find you and Choke you out with your MDen Purchases today. Have some self confidence my man.
When did Uncle Jesse become so violent? Did you start balding?
nah, im a peaceful dude. Last week I asked him the same question and he was talking about how hes not worthy of going to Michigan and stuff like that. Dude is most worthy fan we have, im sure he would do great if he wanted to.
Im not trying to be a dick, just trying to improve self esteem.
My hair is as lush as ever, Augusta wishes their rough could be this nice...
Just being the resident smartass. You keep those dreamy locks on point.
In college, metro detroit is where I'm at, no but they are big fans and raised me as a fan.
unless I transfer to Michigan, no.
I have friends who transferred in for summer classes after a year. They had no chance of getting in straight out of high school.
And we too...are die hards.
Keep doing what you do!
You're like our little brother, we can tease you...but of a trolling MSU/OSU/ND fan ever came on here giving you are time. Whew! We'd fuck 'em UP!
just helping the economy along! 5 is good. 6 next time.
Could definitely be a weapon
he's been booting em tonight.
I like to hear that Hagerup is booming them!
Are probably pretty excited about the thread title.
On the Twitter for updates ???
I guess we can't just call it a night game or a night practice or a night scrimmage. Gotta brand it as UTL!!!1!
Dave Brandon is proud of himself.
In all seriousness, great thread idea. Hope to hear reports from all MGoUsers that made it out.
I thought it started at 8?
Were still at Meijer on Saline :/
It does. The kickers are out warming up
Is parking at Pioneer?
up by auto type. I parked right by stadium so I don't know
Someone posted 10 $ in a earlier thread.
I parked closer for free
does the Big House now have Wifi WOW! ??
we even brought the big inflatable wolverine for the tailgate just like gamedays.

Not really sure
Getting fairly full in the lower section. The rest is empty.
or is it less?
Looks like 25k
Similar to the spring games
I'm just guessing here, but I believe the attendance here so far is better than what the spring game drew. Weather helps.
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) August 16, 2014
Yeah it actually ended up with a pretty good turnout as more people kept coming in...maybe even up to 40k, but it's hard to tell because people space out a little more. I didn't go to this years spring game, but there was definitely a lot more people there than last years spring game. I'd definitely like see them do this again next year.
Dave would never lie. I meet Hockey Season Tickets did drop by 15%.

Gotta know, any 7NA being played?
Imagine an event taking place in Michigan Stadium that does not involve 7NA...
You can't, can you?
Was it always so? Of course not.
But for the rest of your life you will never spend an afternoon/evening in Michigan Stadium (or any other stadium in the country probably) without hearing that song.
Somewhere Michigan is playing meaningless football and I have no means whatsoever to watch it.
Of football season. Players on field.
Players taking the field....
I wish there was a continuous spotlight on Peppers and Cole.
First shot of Peppers fielding a punt...
With Stribling and Lewis
to not be sitting in my regular seats. What a beautiful sight to see the maize and blue on the field!
Mike Weber is here. I think Donovan Peoples-Jones and Lavert Hill are with him.
Drake Harris practicing.
Crowd on its feet
Butt out there with an orange vest on.
I am not part of the down in front crowd, but standing the first ten minutes of the practice and stretching? WTF
MLive will have live updates
Peppers in a Michigan uniform.
been waiting a long time to see this.
Canteen does have real nice speed/quickness.
heard my first "down in front!" of 2014! It's officially here! Football is back.
+1 to you, sir.
"omigawd!" from a brunette in a tie-dye Michigan tank top and Ray Ban Top Gun Aviator shades who arrived some time during the 2nd quarter and asked the other 30 people in the row to move down b/c someone's in her seat?
Peppers practicing with CBs not safeties for those wondering if he was gonna make the switch.
I'm cheering for the ACLs tonight, as I do in every Michigan practice. Stay strong, boys.
MOAR punting drills!
Yes. No injuries, no injuries.
looks like Norfleet & Peppers are your #1/#2 PRs. Fleet nearly had a TD his first return.
Story of his life...
Just booted it a good 70+ yards. Crowd cheered. Ha
Hager up killing it and with hang time
Hagerup's foot fought the football.
Haven't spotted Ty Isaac in uniform. Just checked and word from the stands is injury precaution.
— Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) August 17, 2014
Hopefully this is just a boo boo for everyone's sake. But I think it is unlikely that he gets the hardship waiver to be able to play this year anyway.
Well, I don't have a Scout subscription, but my guess is that Sam posted something earlier today indicating the chances are better than generally believed. (Of course, my guess could be completely wrong.)

First-team OL in warmups: Left tackle Mason Cole, left guard Erik Magnuson, C Jack Miller, RG Graham Glasgow, RT Ben Braden
Anyone seen Kalis? Is he playing?
Peppers & Lewis the first two CBs in drills.
Peppers got beat by Chesson in the slot.
Wow, Peppers at CB.
I'm inclined to take that as a very good sign.
The spring practice was kind of a series of drills and then a bit of scrimmaging.
Clark just blew by Cole, cole went down to his knees.
Hold me. But seriously, Frank Clark is Clowney 2.0 this year, right? RIGHT??
3.5 I hope
Wait, is he hurt?
I think he meant that Cole got burnt so crispy that he fell over.
Ah, thanks. I'm paranoid. But Schembo, if you scare me like that again, I'll tear off your penis-nose and smack you with it.
I laughed way harder than I should have at this.
protector is a freshman, and on the first play from scrimmage, he got beat? Wow.
protector is a freshman, and on the first play from scrimmage, he got beat? Wow.
Green w/first play of the scrimmage. short gain.
All Michigan so far.
Funchess one handed grab over middle!
Funchess huge catch
Oh my funchess.
Hurst with a safety.
thanks for all these updates!
Hurst with a safety, either our oline still sucks or d line is beast mode
Hint: it's probably the former
Fake crowd noise. LOL
So Jack Miller at center.......yeeesh
Hurst smacked Smith for a safety
Peppers playing centerfield
Blew past Jack Miller for the safety
Have been so concerned to see Miller at C. Again. How many times did he get blown by last year?
Please let there be a better OL permutation. And please let the coaches find it fast.
The first team DL features Godin and Ryan Glasgow.......uh
I was thinking the same about Hill and Clark at safeties
Hint: Just because they are starting in the scrimmage doesn't mean they'd start in a real contest.
and making these possessions situational for the offense and defense.
Defense looks quick so far
Just noticed Jeremy Clark and Hill are the starting safeties. Idk this all can't be right.
Yeah, Wilson is pretty much a lock to start. Either he's sitting out as a precaution, or starting the scrimmage doesn not equate to first string.
Time for a group hug
Yeah, I mean, is the Oline awful or the Dline and back seven just having its way?
Beilein in the building. The defensive subs be crazy.
Looks to be very good or the O line is bad again
Let's get them some Dr Scholls so they can start gellin'.
2nd team LT Tuley-Tillman, LG Burzynski, C Kugler, RG Bosch, RT Dawson
Ty Isaac just came onto the field in full pads.
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) August 17, 2014
Shallman playing bulldozer on a nice check down pass
Ty Isaac just showed up in full pads
Putting in work
and brady hoke threw his head back in disgust.
WTF O LInE smh
Green getting time with the ones
Just heard 7NA.
So Delano Hill is playing? I thought he was out 2-3 more weeks with a busted jaw. I would assume he and Clark are playing in the scrimmage because they already know what Wilson can do.
Baumgardner saying Kalis working with 3rd team OL. I'm sure that's injury-related
Thanks to Duval Wolverine, those mlive updates are nice (in addition to all you fine gentleman here)
Green in with the 1s again huh? Everything I know is a lie!!
This thread is symptomatic of why stadium wifi is probably a bad idea. Y'all are in the stadium, and you're boarding on MGoBlog?
What don't you bitch about
Easy. We're totally gonna lose this game if you guys don't get your heads out of your phones and into the game.
People asked for updates if you don't want to see them piss off
not a real game. no scoring. Don't get your knickers in a twist.
so we appreciate the sacrifice.
I NEVER turn my phone on for gamedays, much less have it on in the stadium. Today only. For the blog baby.
Nuss pissed at DG throw
OL looks terrible. Even to this eternal optimist.
Gardner throws the ball up for grabs...looks like same ol DG
O line has not shown a smudge of improvement yet
M-I-L-L-E-R . . . .
Khalid Hill being split wide a few times.
In OT news: Tigers lead the mariners 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th. The tigers have been frustrating King Felix with both him and Lloyd Mclenndon regularly barking at the ump (lloyd was tossed in the second inning for arguing balls and strikes).
Can anyone comment on the coverage? Do they appear to be playing more "press" like they said or are we still giving 10 yard cushions?
O line looks good one play on the blitz pick up then bad the next
on the positive side........2nd team DL looks good????? Hold me TomVH
All I will say right now is that changing out of Renaissance Festival (we were up in Holly) stuff and into Michigan gear (in Ann Arbor) in a minivan is a real bitch, but I am sure that the people on either side of our car did not even want to know what was going on.
OL finally holds and DG overs throws Darboh all alone.
If DG isn't cutting it, I'll wager Nuss isn't going to hesitate to switch DG out.
I would have guessed more than that from what I observed - it felt like 35-40K. But then I guess the rows weren't totally packed like for a typical game. Pretty solid turnout in any event.
OL watch out!
The DL be raping everyone. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband!
Looks like we have our first candidate for banhammer of the 2014 season.
Phone dying. Have fun fellas.
Hm the OL looks bad again huh? Is this the saturday night drinking thread?
Glasgow just limped to the sidelines. Fuck me running tonight
The O line play makes me want to go tailgate some more
one of the best defenses they will face this year. I would expect defense to be in front especially because the offense is new. I admit they don't look great.
They will get better with time, they arent veterans
I'm assuming the fake crowd noise is normal in practice to prepare for road games.
Normal procedure. Been to a few closed-door practices, and it was always either canned fake crowd noise or music from a golf cart driving around around behind the line.
prediction: Peppers starts at corner before the game at sparty.
Following Baumgardner by any chance?
Jabrill Peppers is absolutely a starting CB on this team ... not nickel, a CB.
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) August 17, 2014
Countess goes to NB. He really struggled in man and tight coverage last year. Maybe the knee, but it became worse as the season progressed.
JP is so physical and fast that it's hard to see him sitting any plays if the NB scheme isn't used. His competitiveness is also needed on the field every down.
It's far and away the best unit...Clark looks like a beast, finally will have inside presence on the D Line
Might be some jitters. Shane is putting the ball on the money and rewarded with drops. Soon as I type this he complete this he completes a deep one to Canteen.
At what point in the running game's futility does Michigan say "fuck it" and adopt the Air Raid offense?
Shane connecting with Canteen
If Dever plays, here's to the never ending Dileo comparisons.
Bo Is a lot taller than Drew.
Famous Dileo presser words: the white receiver
Just becasue they are both white WRs? Dever is 6'2" 200 lbs. Dileo is 5'10" and 180 lbs and that's probably being generous to him.
I had the same thought on Dever watching the spring game. Dever looks like a quick slot guy who catches everything thrown at him but doesn't have the speed to get deep. Sounds a lot like Dileo to me. He also appeared to have the same running style.
I think 5'10 is being verrry generous to Dileo. That might be the program height from last year, but it probably more like 5'8.
Morris looking decent out there.
Is there at least a slim possibility that this is the best defense this offense will face this year? Just a little tiny possibility? One of the top two or three at least?
Well it is normal for the defense to be ahead of the offense. If the defense is really going to be good, the offense just needs to stop the turnovers and be effective in red zone or be good on big plays.
Well, yes-- "it is normal for the defense to be ahead of the offense" early in the year. But this is no longer Spring ball.
And they reassured us with those same words last year . . . .
I hope the OL improves, but right now it flat out sucks.
That is the best case scenario
Jabrill Peppers is pretty much all over the place. Michigan has put a ton on his plate, and he in no way looks rattled/confused.
Have no idea how to embed a tweet but Peppers Hype Train lives on
The D line should be great this year..
Raving reviews of the defense.
From what I'm hearing...the defense looks great and the o-line still sucks? Well, at least that was predictable.
Sam Webb is a great follow tonight - play by play analysis
OL, y u no stop DL?
Will be the key as had been said over and over again... They just don't look capable of blocking anyone... I'm starting to think it wasn't Borges it was Funk
Nonsense. It was both.
Maybe, just maybe the players on the oline just aren't good enough
I'm so skeptical of Funk. I just can't come up with a scenario that puts anything but a lot of the blame on him for last season. Even if it was a complexity/volume of schemes problem, what are the chances that (1) he noticed the problem, (2) he told Borges and Hoke that his guys can't handle it, and (3) Borges and Hoke told him to piss off? Seems very unlikely to me. I think the experience thing is a big deal, but it doesn't justify what happened last season. That was awful despite there being two NFL tackles and some really highly recruited talent on the roster.
Bellomy has come a looooong way.
He should redshirt either way
Well....as long as you have a defense, you have a chance in any game, just ask sparty from last year.
Sparty offense did get better as the season went on. I hope our offense does too.
Pass by bellomy
With a big gainer
Another for a touchdown. Ways looks good
With the TD
Has there been a fire Nuss or Funk post yet?
I'm still all aboard the Nuss Bus personally but hey call me an optimist..
It will be fire Funk, the O line looks terrible unless the D line is just that great
I'm one of the more "be patient with the coaches" guys here, but I'll start.
Fire Funk. Not now, because that would mess up the season, but fire him seven months ago. I just wrote out my reasons for being skeptical of him above, but I just don't see how he doesn't deserve A LOT of the blame for last season.
Mo Ways than one. sorry.
That would be TD Mo Ways then one.
Sounds like pass pass pass.... Not much running
Countess with the pick
Moving the ball. I don't think it's last year but it's not perfect
Looks like a beast on the D line
Hurst may get some PT this year at this rate
How does the passing offense look? It sounds like we are almost exclusively passing. Is that the case, or are all the runs just bad?
Welp....sounds like the OL is still a huge problem against the #2 D at that.
Maurice Hurst has been impressive tonight!!!
One or both?
Glasgow returned to the field after limping off earlier and having his right ankle heavily taped.
there have been some decent runs mixed in
By my count, first-team RBs with 14 carries for 27 yards. Gardner has 15-yard carry and 3-yard sack.
Better than 27 for 27 am i right?? Guys we're improving!!
Fly fishing in Colorado- has Pipkins been in?
Sorry-One too many Colorado Natives
My eyes in the crowd are saying Pipkins is looking strong early.
— Steve Lorenz (@TremendousUM) August 17, 2014
Good news, thanks! Hoping he has breakout year.
Willie Henry has a quick burst off the line..I'm impressed with the interior lineman
I pray to God this OL can get it together this season. Holy cow.
There are a couple things that have been consistent on the twitter front: The D-Line is very good. Jack Miller is not so good. That accurate for you guys that are seeing this in person?
This might be a good big-picture summary:
So the question of: Can the defense be strong enough to carry the O early in the year? Right now, that may be true, IMO.
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) August 17, 2014
guessing its spot on. interior DL has some athletes so not surprised with henry and hurst and pipkins. but then again the OL has been struggling as we all know and miller remains at point of attack despite the obvious. good teams always have few upperclassmen seemingly come out of nowhere to either really contribute or provide legit depth etc....mich may have those types this year but i unfortunately do not ever see that happening with miller. miller just has never been nor will ever be a legit BSC player. it really is unfortunate bc by all accounts hes a good kid and hard worker and teammates like him - and even more so bc the coaches have already released his name to media / public as starting C. but hokes love for the kids heart / practice effort cannot will him into a good player - when will hoke realize miller is not the guy at C? its amazing, we all saw glasgow vs miller last year at C and it was not even close, yet hoke publily comments miller has earned the job outperforming glasgow and kugler so far this year. good to hear the D was crazy aggressive and sounded like gardner made good decisions mostly. but miller and braden are really troubling - especially since the public has historically seen mostly poor play from both yet both were first names out of hokes mouth as earning starting nods. hopefully hes got a super duper secret plan in store for his OL that inspires such confidence
The OLine performance is disheartening. There doesn't appear to be any improvement.
Well, if there's no improvement then here comes another fucking 7 win season. FUCK!
You do realize there's a host of factors you aren't accounting for?
The defense is pretty damn good
Good point Carlos! I'm just sick of losing and the goddamn excuses!
I don't care what defense we're playing. 2 YPC is not cutting it.
... While I like your optimism, we can't say the defense is good. They are playing against a historically terrible offensive line. So every time someone says "Hurst looks awesome." I say, "Against Jack Miller."
Last year, we had an okay defense and a horrible offense. We lost our two best linemen. I can't believe we are much better on the line regardless of maturation of young talent and a coaching change. Put those things together, and my jury is still out on how good this defense is. We simply won't know until we play someone with a pulse, like Notre Dame.
Or maybe Utah . . . .
because the offense is atrocious. . .let's hope that's not the case this year.
They ran like 80/20 pass plays to run plays... They had significantly more busted pass plays than run plays (not because of failed pass pro). I think the defense will be sick simply because there were zero missed assignments. Mattison called a blitz on nearly every offensive play of Gardner's sets and the defense was right where it needed to be at all times no question. The double A-gap blitzes with Ryan and Morgan coming were particularly terrifying considering how frequently Mattison blitzes Peppers. Offense will be fine.. Mediocre at best. Defense looks pretty terrifying.
Should be All Big 10, and in the running for All American
How can you tell? Everyone says the oline is bad?
But if the interior D line can come halfway close to what they are doing tonight, that pressure will open him up for 2 or 3 additional sacks also with our DBs playing tighter coverage ... I can see him getting 12+ sacks this year
lol, after a scrimmage against a true freshman left tackle?
From sounds of it...Hoke hot seat being built and set over a fire. Maybe Nuss will accept the head coach position? Gonna be a LOOOOOOOOOOONG year gentlemen.....FML
Nuss is in charge of the offense and it looks like crap. He's not getting a head coaching gig until he fixes the o-line/running game.
Maybe he needs to bring in Bama Oline coach....they don't seem to have many issues running the ball....
Maybe want to slow your roll on that hot seat business based on a scrimmage.
Loses 4 or 5 games this season he can fire Funk at the end of the season and Hoke will get one more season to prove himself. Hopefully by next season our projected to be very talented young lineman will be playing well! Here's to 2015!
Anyone looking straight to 2015 right now can go to hell and take the fair weather with them
That would be tough in hell. It's pretty hot year-round.
I want to see the OL improve through the season. I think we will have a traditionally good MIchigan defense. If the offense can improve enough for a 9-3 record, I would be thrilled. But competing for the B1G title probably will not occur until 2015 IMO!
I think our D could be one of the best in the B1G.
The O-line has had contact practices for just over a week, right? I'd be most surprised if the O-line isn't much improved by Ap St.
Brian is officially on citrus watch now. Lemons.
Drake Johnson probably has been the best RB today
In front of me
Other observations. There's been a one handed catch here and there, no sustainable drives. Shane has shown a good touch and arm strength. Joe Bolden is ferocious with bad intentions for ball carriers. Overall the D looks pretty solid...lots of quality depth.
LTT not having a good day. woof
Better as pass blocking than run blocking?
Bad at both?
Another catch by ways. Looks real good
Sounds like OL is still a liability and the D hopefully is legit and not just looking good because of a sad OL to play against.
Like always have to wait till after the ND game to get a fair gauge of things.
So Funk has three weeks to save job?
explanation as to how he kept his job after last year? I heard on the radio that inside zone is his specialty (which we're supposed to be running this year), from what I am hearing, it's not working. . .
1. Kugler's dad is an NFL line coach and sent his son to play for Funk.
2. Michigan has recruited well on the OL.
3. Lewan was a top NFL pick and Schofield was also selected.
4. Linemen typically need 4 years in a program to be very solid. Look back at Lewan during his RS So year. He was good, but was beat a bunch and committed at least 1 hold per game, and he's the best lineman to come through Michigan since long.
The only criteria for the offense is that they get better during the season.
Not there but from what I'm seeing on Twitter and here, it sounds like the O line is as terrible as we feared. I was just starting to buy into some of the hype, too.
A couple of questions for those of you there:
1. Do any of the O-linemen look decent/good?
2. How about the event itself? Is it a cool, worthwhile thing... much better than this year's spring game?
Better weather than the spring game. Better atmosphere at night. Also, we're getting a glimpse of play two weeks away, and not five months away. That made it more interesting, imo.
Just from reading updates from my couch, it sounds like we shouldn't worry about who starts at RB because, well... it doesn't matter. That about right?
Jack Lambert in his uniform. Hopefully he will play like him. Still looking for the online to open a hole, run game is non existent.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall us all thinking the defense was ahead of the offense last year too, but then the offense looked pretty good against ND in week 2. Not trying to say the o-line will be fixed, but I think it's fair to say that just becasue they look bad tonight doesn't mean they will be bad all year. And, just because the defense looks great tonight doesn't mean they will be great all year. That doesn't mean we can't take anything away from this, but lets not get carried away either. In reality, the schedule is very backloaded, the ND game is meaningless towards winning the B1G, and our first real conference test won't be until Oct. 11th when PSU comes to town. We have almost 2 months to improve.
Seems like they would be very familiar with the play calling.
The O Line hasn't improved in two years. Why should we expect it to improve in 2 months?
Even if the o-line doesn't improve much, the mind-numbing playcalling of Borges no longer around, and the, granted hopefully, better playcalling from Nuss should make for an improved offense.
