Super Bowl Open Thread
Here's your MGoBlog Official Rooting Guide:
.
.
New York Giants |
New England Patriots |
|
---|---|---|
MVP Candidates | David Baas and Mario Manningham, plus RBs coach Jerald Ingram and Asst. (to the) Linebackers coach Jim Herrmann | Tom Brady and Zoltan Mesko, plus Mallett if you count him. |
Known Buckeye Associates | Jake Ballard (TE) and Jim Cordle (backup to Baas) | DL Coach Pepper Johnson (played under Earl Bruce). |
Spartans Charitably Employed | Greg Jones (backup MLB) and Devin Thomas (3rd string WR) | Brian Hoyer, but I don't count this against them because I find a Spartan as manservant to both Brady and Zoltan (srsly: he's listed as the Space Emperor's backup as PK holder!) totally acceptable. |
Suspected Domer Sympathizers | Justin Tuck (starting SDE) | Sergio Brown, a 3rd string safety |
Other known affiliations | The original Mara (current owner's grandpa) bought and disbanded the Detroit Wolverines (NFL) in 1929 just so he could have Benny Friedman | Kirk Ferentz, Nick Saban, and Charlie Weiss all served as asst. coaches under Belicheck at one time. OC Bill O'Brien will become Penn State's new Head Zook after game. |
Sorry to have taken over M-Wolverine's thread. I planned to have this go up at 5:30 and he beat me to it. Here's his original post:
Less than an hour away. Should be a good game. The commercials. The halftime show featuring someone steering her kid to Michigan. Brady, Zoltan and Mallett vs. Manningham, Baas and Herrmann. I'll be rooting for Brady to win his fourth, and get to the arguably greatest player/QB of all time level, so we can say THAT GUY came from Michigan. (And my general stance of rooting against Mannings). But if you're a diehard Giants fan, no problem. Just remember your team has twice as many Spartans as the Pats. ;-) Enjoy the game, the food, the family, friends, and fun!

Shart.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:04 PM ^
I would rather see the Fab Five over SB anyway.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:07 PM ^
Pulling for Brady and the Pats. But if the Giants win, I hope it's on a game-winning TD pass to Manningham.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:09 PM ^
Tom and Bill are on the cusp. Get it done tonight, and it's theirs. LETS GO PATS
February 5th, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
Thats bullshit.

Why no Michigan love?
February 5th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
He must hate Brady Hoke. All alumni hate Brady Hoke, that is why he is losing!

Manningham is not ALL IN and doesn't Get It!

from Mario? I was watching the Fab Five.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
What was up with that Manningham?
February 5th, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
I'll bet he does it for this reaction right here...
...some of these posts are ridiculous. People freaking out because a player doesn't say his college when he's in the NFL will always been on of the dumbest things I see/hear.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
So did David Baas.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:53 PM ^
And of course Mario didn't actually graduate from Michigan....
PS: Chart is missing Carson Butler's valuable contributions to the Pats' practice squad. [Of very recent vintage.]
February 5th, 2012 at 8:00 PM ^
Maybe Mario learned how to make a pipe out of an apple when he was still in high school. If this is the case, I fully understand this move.
Otherwise it is still annoying as fuck. I'd prefer "Fielding Yost's University of Michigan" or some other nonsense over not even mentioning the school at all.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
However, in reading your reply, highly embarrassed to notice I typo'ed emphatically above. Too late to correct now.
Of course I'm sure Baas was also showing empathy for those of us who were pissed at Mario, hence his emphatic statement.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
Besides the fact that it is Brady...I root for the Patriots becuase Eli is a Manning.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:16 PM ^
That chicks face is way too small for her head.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:18 PM ^
I wasn't paying attention, what did Manningham do?
February 5th, 2012 at 6:21 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
During player introductions, he said his high school instead of Michigan. The only player who didn't say his college.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
Thanks for the buzzkill, Ronald McDonald House.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
Well, the anthems didn't get fucked up.
Progress, I suppose.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:25 PM ^
Please be heads....
February 5th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
What are your guys general thoughts on Michaels and Collinsworth?
February 5th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
Both ought to be beaten with shovels.
Al Michaels has been past his prime since about 1988. Cris Collinsworth never had a prime.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:28 PM ^
I really like Al Michaels mostly for "do you believe in miracles." Chris Collinsworth - not so much.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:40 PM ^
I don't mind Collingsworth. He has some good takes on the playcalling, and I find him to be far less insufferable than what they usually trot out.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:34 PM ^
Random question: Is there a reason why college players are not allowed to wear tinted visors? I know Charles Woodson used to wear one and they are still popular in the NFL.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:35 PM ^
In 1998 the NFL implemented a rule stating that tinted visors are banned from players' facemasks except for medical need. The NCAA implemented a similar rule in 2009.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:43 PM ^
That's a pretty horrible grounding call. He threw the ball deep, and it looked like he thought Welker was going deep and out. Yeah, it probably was a throw-away, but when he let the ball go it definitely looked like someone was in the vicinity.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:45 PM ^
That's a dumb rule. So what are you supposed to do in that situation? Just take the sack for the safety anyway? Or throw to the sideline?
February 5th, 2012 at 6:47 PM ^
Throw it near a receiver, or get outside the tackle box so you can throw it away.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:47 PM ^
I get why the rule exists, but that throw looked as "legit" as others I've seen toward the sideline they didn't call. Just a dumb call.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:46 PM ^
It's weird that he didn't just throw it towards the sidelines and out of bounds.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:45 PM ^
derppppppppppp
February 5th, 2012 at 6:49 PM ^
Yes, Brady was throwing it away, but that throw was not any different than a Joe Bauserman pass. I didn't see Bauserman get flagged constantly for intentional grounding.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:50 PM ^
Wow, that was a fumble too. Patriots are really shooting themselves in the foot.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:52 PM ^
Carson Butler is also on the Patriots practice squad.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:54 PM ^
The college kids above me are LOVING this game so far, which makes me laugh because they sure weren't whoofing up the team when they are 7-7.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:57 PM ^
are the worst commercials. Never interesting. Now that M&M commercial was a classic.
February 5th, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
I didn't mind the Chevy apocalypse ad, but that GoDaddy one is just dumb despite having an incredibly attractive women involved.
February 5th, 2012 at 7:15 PM ^
VW makes good commercials.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:20 PM ^
Maybe it's because i worked for Chrysler last Summer, but I love the imported from Detroit commercials.
February 5th, 2012 at 7:01 PM ^
Surprisingly few Peyton mentions so far
February 5th, 2012 at 7:14 PM ^
That doesn't look anything like The Lorax. It was the character but not the story. I disapprove of Dr. Seuss movies that aren't the animated ones from my childhood.
February 5th, 2012 at 7:41 PM ^
Teleflora got my attention.
February 5th, 2012 at 7:47 PM ^
Pats TD!
