ASU is changing to a read-option this year. I'm completely serious.
Now, they may go more pass-heavy on it because of their personnel, but he's most certainly not going to a pro-style offense at all.
And their QB situation kinda stinks this year but they have some depth (three guys in competition for the job this year even after Jack Elway transferred out), and one of the guys is a sophomore with speed. And the situation this year doesn't matter - it's what the situation is NEXT season that matters.
Well, in terms of the hot women department, Threet is going to be living it up. ASU women are smoking hot and love to party. Phoenix is a pretty chill place to hang out too. And Threet won't have to deal with shitty weather anymore. He'll enjoy it all.
I live there man and you are dead on. I would put ASU girls against anyone. My first time out in Tempe went like this: see girl walk past, think to myself that girl is the hottest girl I have ever seen...next girl walks by, think to myself no that is the hottest girl I have ever seen...and so on and so forth.
Phoenix if very chill and there is tons to do here. If there is one place where you can go to play football, not play a down and still enjoy life it is here!

All a matter of perspective. I personally can't stand temperatures above 90 degrees, which means I'd find summers (and even much of spring/fall) in Tempe incredibly uncomfortable. Regardless, best of luck to him.
They actually do run a "spread" in that they line up 3+ receivers, but is extremely pass-heavy. This, really, is the sort of offense he should be in.
Now he just needs to improve his spiral, accuracy, timing, and mechanics. Not a bad place to land, though.
No matter what chuckleheads on the intrawebs say, 3 major D-I programs have now felt Threet a worthwhile player to bring in. He can't be as unremitingly awful as we'd like to think.

And for the record, I would have loved for Threet to stay in Ann Arbor. I think he did struggle last year in terms of accuracy and form, but a position coach who places more emphasis on throwing mechanics rather than zone-read options will really help him; he looked like he was thinking way too much last year, and he never got comfortable.

Are you suggesting that Rod Smith isn't very effective at teaching throwing mechanics?
ASU hasn't been recruiting QBs well the last few years. They'll lose their senior QB this year, and he'll come in competing against two three-star sorts: a Redshirt Junior that no one is excited about and a 6'8 Redshirt Freshman. There's a good chance that he gets to be a 2-year starter in a pro style offense for a D1 program. More power to him.
Then the guy who transferred from Michigan after transferring from Georgia Tech could have competed against the guy who transferred from the school that picked up the guy who transferred from Michigan.
That was incredibly confusing.

While I wouldn't use the words "chill" and "Phoenix" in the same sentence, I would certainly take 100 degrees of "dry heat" over 85 degree midwest humidity ANY time, and the summers in AZ suck much less than the midwest winters, for sure. Nothing to shovel, either....

ASU is a good fit for Threet.
Rich Olson is a proven OC and Dennis Erickson is a good HC.
The QB situation at ASU sucks right now, so there's opportunity.

Threet is slow, clumsy, inaccurate, and throws like Dan Quisenberry. He is not a major college QB. If he likes Arizona so much, he should have gone to NAU up in Flagstaff.
I really feel sorry for him, becasue someone is giving him some incredibly bad advice. He will be doing the same thing he would have done in Ann Arbor or Atlanta: holding a clipboard and wondering why it never works out for him.

I love how you can predict a guy's career based on his redshirt freshman season in an offense that's foreign to him.
If Chad Pennington played in an offense where Randy Moss ran deep every play, he'd probably look pretty shitty, too. But when Pennington gets put it an offense that plays to his strengths, he looks like a pretty good QB.

Threet left everything on the field for his team last year. Taking multiple injuries including a concussion for a season that was likely to be a lost cause well before RR was even hired thanks to the gaping holes in the roster. As a redshirt freshman, he played behind the worst OL in my memory of Michigan football, his two best RBs (Minor and Brown) started the season injured and the #3 RB (McG) didn't finish the season either.
I'm not sure what you were expecting out of the young man, but he completed over 50% of his passes and had more TDs than INTs.
I wish Threet all the best and thank him for what he went through last year. Hopefully, Michigan will get to face him in the Rose Bowl after the 2010 season.
Way to support a kid that stayed even after the coach that brought him to AA left, learned a completely new offense, played hurt, and left respectfully when it didn't work out. He did everything that could have been asked of him, and more, yet you still want to bag on him.
I wish him luck at ASU. Eat some sushi at Ra in Tempe on me, Steve. You earned it, buddy.

he's a redshirt freshmen with his 6th (SIXTH!!?) offensive coordinator in 3+ years. He was in a bad playing time situation here, it would have been nice if he stayed, but not for him. The shame of it is that had the offensive line been healthier last year things could have taken an entirely different track for him. we could have gone 5-7 or 6-6 with a bowl and he'd be the entrenched starter. but whatever. I wish him good luck.
agreed with the o-line comments. A better o-line and he takes fewer hits, doesn't get injured as often, and has a chance to actually settle down back there.
He seems to be a good kid, I hope he finds what he's looking for down there.
He'll be banging Sharpay Evans by game two.
