2 CBs to 4 star LBs Jaydon Hood and 4 star Junior Colson who are considered Michigan leans.

The new one is 4 star DE Kechaun Bennett out of CT which is exciting

You should go back and read Seth/Ace's front page post on DTs.  The recruits who need to put on weight/bulk up to play DT rarely make major contributions.  They usually end up being role players - someone who can play DT but isn't going to be a difference maker at that position.  The DT' recruits who end up being really good to studs are the ones that didn"t need to bulk up to play DT.

It ( https://mgoblog.com/content/jimmystats-tackles-window ) was a little more nuanced than what you're suggesting. Excerpt:

If you bring in a pair of lightning feet attached to an excellent brain and just need to add 40 pounds to get to 300, your chances are pretty good. If you need to add 70 pounds, or he lacks the athleticism, or he needs to drop 40 pounds of one type of weight and put on another, or he doesn't have that one in a million brain that can process how a team wants to block him from minute details while in a trench battle, your chances are not great.

They don't have to arrive planet-sized. You can bulk them up to a degree. Notice the suggestion that just being big doesn't always work out, either.

They don't have to arrive planet-sized but in the article the 4 guys Seth labeled as dudes all arrived with DT size.

If you look at the Dudes they came from all over the 3-star spectrum. Hurst came out a 4.01 on my 5-star scale, Renes a 3.83 (what we generally call a "3.5-star"), Henry a 3.48 (really low) and Glasgow was a walk-on. But they also fit a certain body type. Hurst was 6'2/282 as a true freshman, Renes 6'1/275, Henry 6'2/270, and Glasgow 6'4/294. The Guys showed up smaller: Wilson was 6'4/255, Bowman 6'3/258, Lazarus 6'3/245, Godin 6'6/277, and Huff a 6'4/234 linebacker.

There were way more guys in Seth's article who were whiffs (for one reason or another) or serviceable then impact guys.

In the comments AC asked me what Michigan's hit rate is on grow-your-own DTs. The answer is it depends a lot on the profile of the recruit.

  • Dudes (since 1996): Mo Hurst, Ryan Glasgow, Willie Henry, Rob Renes
  • Guys: Eric Wilson, Grant Bowman, Ben Huff, Shawn Lazarus, Matt Godin
  • Playable but missing a key component: Carlo Kemp, Jibreel Black, Michael Dwumfour, Gannon Dudlar, Jess Speight, Alex Ofili, Kerwin Waldroup, Larry Harrison
  • Whiffs: Phil Paea, Richard Ash, Jason Kates, Ray Edmonds, Brion Smith, Donovan Jeter, Deron Irving-Bey, Brady Pallante, Renaldo Sagesse, Terry Talbott, Vince Helmuth, Marques Walton, Paul Sarantos, Dave Spytek

Recruiting a bunch of guys who you hope to bulk up to play DT isn't the way to build a stud dline.

Michigan is recruiting him to play DT. Many (most?) schools are recruiting him to play OL. He has the ability to play either one (similar to Mike Onwenu having the ability to play either at a competitive level)

247’s position projections don’t really matter a whole lot. Schools evaluate players independently and find better fits for certain guys. A recent example is Mike Sainristil. A corner to the recruiting sites, Michigan saw a slot bug who was a camp hype star and contributed 150 receiving yards as a true freshman in a really deep receiving corps. Peppers was a corner to recruiting sites, ended up being more of a linebacker type safety (Viper using Brown’s terminology). Winovich was a linebacker that we ended up moving to tight end and then to DE.

Coaching staffs don’t really pay much attention to the recruiting sites. The recruiting sites are really just made for fans like us to have content. Football coaches will trust their own evaluations more than anything. Sometimes they agree with the sites, sometimes they disagree. Sometimes different staffs will see different things in the same player.

If I ever buy a tractor, and after paying it off in full, the first thing I’m gonna do is message all the girls from HS of my latest purchase. To show how ‘adult’ I am.

Other interesting crystal balls:

  • 3* CB Ryan Barnes has received a run of crystal balls to Notre Dame
  • 3* CB Tyreek Chappell has received a run of crystal balls to Texas A&M. He will be announcing a top 3 soon as well
  • 5* OT Nolan Rucci was CBed to Wisconsin by Wiltfong
  • 4* DE Dallas Turner was CBed to Alabama by Wiltfong

Other than that, there have been additional balls for Jaydon Hood and Junior Colson to Michigan. I think the expectation is for both to join the class.

And I'm not sure if I saw this mentioned on the board, but 3* OT Tristan Bounds went ahead and visited Michigan and Notre Dame on his own. Campus wasn't open and the coaching staff couldn't host him but I guess it was helpful for him to get the lay of the land. Clearly the coronavirus wasn't going to stop him from seeing the campus.

Do you agree the Rucci CB to Wisconsin could be a good thing?  I know we are still fighting for him, but I thought the consensus was that he was likely PSU if he doesn’t go to Clemson.  I would much rather him end up at UW and in the West than adding to the PSU hurdle in the East.

Yep. I did a post on this recently. In-state, the only guys Michigan has missed on in the past five years have been Julian Barnett (from...Belleville), Kalon Gervin, and Donovan Johnson, none of whom have done anything worthwhile at the cornerback position.

In that same span, they've landed Lavert Hill, Ambry Thomas, and Vincent Gray. Gray has more production at CB than those other guys do combined.
