steroid testing in college? what are you going to do next weekend?

Submitted by Marvin on

Maybe this is too short for a post, but I've been trying to find out if NCAA players are tested regularly for steroids. Anybody know?

Also, Michigan doesn't play next week, so who has the most egregiously long list of house projects to tackle? I'll be painting myself, which isn't so bad, but after that it's drywall, which sucks.

Ok. The Ncaa tests about 10 random guys before the season starts. Yes, that is 10 out of 110 or more. You are told a few days in advance of the test so you have time to get your shit together if you have to. Then NCAA can come back and randomly test at any point but I never once saw this happen.

30% seems like a good guess and I would say that number is for certain and possibly a bit higher. There are almost two groups on any team, those that use and those that don't. I was offered them coming in as a Freshman, said no thanks, nothing was ever said to me about it again. The guy who played next to me took them and let me in on a few others that did as well. From other athletes I have talked to, this seemed to be prevalent in most locker rooms.

No program in the country besides USC would be effected more than ohio if steroid testing was a regular thing. Everyone already knows that it's the reason they produce so many standout linemen who turn into complete busts when they get into the NFL.

When I played we had about 10 guys tested before the season, another 5 or so during the season, and then another 10 or so for the post season (D-III playoffs). We generally didn't have advanced notice, just the kind of "When do you have class? Get down here to pee in a cup today before practice" type of warning. I was on the players council with our head coach, so we were sometimes responsible for letting guys know on top of their official notification. So unless you were one of the guys tested, you generally didn't know it was going on. That's just how we handled it though.
