Sprung Forward Sunday College Hoops Open Thread

Submitted by Steves_Wolverines on

Welcome to the Sunday Open thread. Lots of games today, so let's get to the match-ups:

Around the Nation, Wichita State looks to cap off a perfect season against Larry Bird's Sycamores in the Arch Madness Final. This game is on CBS following:

Virginia at fututre Big-10 team Maryland. Maryland winning would be a good thing.

At 2:00 on ESPN3, we can all stream FSU vs. Syracuse, and watch Syracuse try and right the ship. We hope that FSU doesn't let that happen.

In the only other ranked game outside of the Big-10, we have St. Louis trying to figure things out too, and to do that at UMASS might prove too difficult.

There are a couple of mid-major championships today as well.

The Big South features Winthrop vs Coastal Carolina at noon.

FGCU aka "Dunk City" looks to punch their ticket against Mercer at 2:00 on ESPN2.

Big-10 Games:

NW vs Purdue gets the day started on the BTN at noon. The loser gets sole possession of last place!

The day continues with MSU visiting OSU at 4:30 on CBS.

PSU takes on Minnesota at the Barn.

Following the PSU/Minn game is the game of the night. Nebraska looks to hold home court, beat Bo Ryan and the Badgers, and punch their ticket to the Big Dance.

After playing around at this site, http://bball.notnothing.net/big10.php?sport=mbb , if you're in the boat that you want to see Michigan win the BTT, we would want the following results:

Purdue, OSU, PSU, and Neb to win their games. This would have Michigan face the winner of IU/Minn, and the the winner of Neb vs OSU/NW. Iowa, MSU, and Wisc would be on the other side (along with ILL).

Tom Crean personally tried to get my son kicked out of the game last night for yelling "get off the court -you're not the 6th man". How does Crean make this happen? He brings his own cops to the game - the only coach in the conference who does so. Yes -Crean's own cops came up to my son and said that they will kick him out if he addresses Tommy again. Apparently Tommy stared him down a couple of times last night. His attention to our crowd and his heckling our players while the game is going from on the court explains why he is the most hated coach in the big 10 (and one of the least effective bench coaches.). Indiana's got a real winner in Crean.

That sounds bonkers that he would have any sorts of rights to be free from being addressed.

I really don't see it, but if the threat of ejection seemed legit, all you need to do is shift to screaming at the refs: "Get that guy off the damn court!"

Problem solved. Not addressing you, asshole. Just addressing your assholish behavior, Mr. Crean. I still can't get over his mock contrition once he finally got warned, as though he was stunned, just stunned that he isn't allowed to be all over the court during play.

This Maryland team will be good next year. Reterning a ton of players and they have a very good recruiting class.

Just increasing the depth in the Big-10!

What a win for Maryland!

Just how we wanted the morning to start!

Hasn't played anyone with a pulse but they also don't play down to their opponent.  They can score in bunches, quickly and on'e seem to turn the ball over much.  I can see them making another tourney run despite their level of competition so far.  They remind me of the back-to-back Butler teams.

Can't tell if WSU is for real legit or if they just look this good because they are playing weak teams. I mean yeah they can score in bunches, but how much can be credited to how good they are verses how bad their opponents are.

Gotta give them credit for never slipping up against these crappy teams though. That's all on the head coach. He seems like he knows what he's doing there. Maybe he'll be the next Brad Stevens and go from a Mid-Major to the NBA.

Entertaining game in the A-Sun.

NIT City for Dunk City. I'm not crazy about teams that let the posturing spill over into getting into an opponent's face. I think that's how fights get started and I put that all on the team that does the taunting. FGCU was doing too much of that.

I think the normal rooting interest for us is OSU over MSU, because MSU is even more hateful when it comes to basketball.

And you want MSU to just stay a mess and have no storyline to sell themselves.

On the other hand, an MSU win and we will just hear more and more about how it would have been all Sparty if only they hadn't lost their All-American center - oh, wait, that was us, and we just won the fucking Big Ten.

But seriously, more Sparty BS may fuel our guys more, as they continue to draw some pretty strange disrespect for a team that won the conference at 15-3 and beat everyone.

Just keep another outlet back against Ohio State for the inlet pass, "annoying guy from the YMCA" is still enrolled their and playing basketball. They even started the game out doing it.

Hmm, this is surprising.

Watching OSU-MSU and I am shocked that the commentary is something like, "Injuries, injuries, injuries. Injuries, injuries."

Izzo/Sparty clearly handed out pre-game notes.

Look, I understand the hate for ohio simply because they're ohio.

But they aren't Michigan's top rival in Basketball. They are only in name. Much like other sports, the media just hypes it as a rivalry because of the fanfare of the Football rivalry.

It's always nice beating that school in anything, but Football is where it truly is the #1 rivalry.

For me, I hate indiana more than ohio. ohio is probably #4 on my basketball rival hate index behind state, indiana and wisconsin.
