Spring Game info/ideas.

Submitted by JonnyHintz on
I'm going down to Ann Arbor for the Spring game next week, just looking for any tips on when to arrive and where to park. I also looked on mgoblue (in a hurry) and didn't see any information on pre-game festivities. I've noticed in past years there were flag football games featuring alumni. Anything of the sort this year? I will also be freshly 21 years old, so any ideas on good bars/restaurants to grab a beer after the game? Any input is much appreciated.

I am hoping the weather is nice enough that there will be some tailgating. I plan on being there 60-90 mins early to have a few beers. This will be my first spring game and I've been looking for details as well. Guess they'll come out sometime this week

so you're saying you're looking for tips or...Hintz?

As far as parking, I live on the other side of Stadium bridge, and parking is free on those residential streets (e.g., Henry St.) Not a bad place to park, if you don't mind walking over the bridge that is. Which I kind of like.

for THE TEAM.  We park in our usual spot and do it up like a regular game.  Noon kick.  7am arrival.

down to the game.   kind of like the beverly hillbillies but without grandma.   would be easier if the kick was later.  i assume free, general admission.

First and foremost, congrats to the OP on turning 21 years old.

Second, as others have mentioned, the residential areas on the other side of the bridge have decent parking usually (not nearly as much traffic as an actual game, not usually anyway) and it isn't a bad walk to the stadium from there.

I hadn't heard much about events though - I plan to wander between tailgates / gatherings and pretend to know someone at each one, just to see how many beers I can get that way.

Wear long johns, a down parka, and insulated boots. I can't recall a spring game when the weather hasn't completely sucked.

Someone has probably mentioned the reason but why the hell do we hold the game so early. It'd be a shock if the weather weren't terrible. Even one week later could be a 20 degree difference.

on any of this, but here goes:

The Spring Game was originally scheduled for April 11th this year, but was moved up a week by Coach Harbaugh.  From what I recall reading (mostly here, where else??!), he wanted to get the earliest possible start on spring practice this season so that he could get a jump on evaluating his new team.  He also wanted to evaluate first hand rather than using last season's films; the only way to do so would be to dive right in as early as the schedule would permit.

Almost equally important, looking to future Michigan football teams, he wanted to have a better idea what priorities would be on the recruiting trail---in other words, how can you restock without knowing what you have on hand?
