Sparty Schadenfreude

Submitted by Lie-Cheat-Steal on

After the fluke dropped punt loss to Sparty, all their close wins, and all their boasting about the lucky win, yesterday provided sweet karmic justice.  Their reaction to the loss (Plaxico, Jamele Hill) is just further evidence of their little bro status and mentality.

With Harbaugh just starting to create his monster in Ann Arbor, and Urbz being Urbz in C-Bus, writing is on the wall for Sparty, especially with Cook leaving this year.  Back to mediocrity and even more national irrelevance in the coming years.

I could not scour through enough RCMB last night, as the schadenfreude of not only their loss, but the way in which they lost (and attempts to distinguish it from their fluke win in Ann Arbor) made the tears that much more delicious.

Please share your favorite Sparty schadenfreude memes, posts, twitters, etc here below.  I simply can not get enough, and I doubt TWIS will have all of the good stuff, as there is just too much right now.

They just beat us but the writing is on the wall for them? Bullshit Dantonio is a great coach and gets the best out of low star recruits by finding guys who fit well in his system so NEWS FLASH Sparty isn't going anywhere unless Mork leaves.

His system?  He runs a pro style offense and an aggressive man defense (which has already shown some chinks in the armor after player and coaching losses).  We're not talking the Art Briles or Chip Kelly spread here.  He's good at finding underrated recruits and coaching them up, will that work if OSU, Michigan, and PSU are all recruiting and playing at a high level?  I have my doubts.

I'll admit to being pleased by the result.  And I appreciate the irony of Sparty losing on a bad call.  But don't call it schadenfreude.  This is a genuinely good result for Michigan.  We need MSU to lose twice while we win out if we are going to win the division.  Sparty just lost one of those two games.  If Penn State were in MSU's place, I'd feel about the same.

This isn't about hating Sparty.  Truth be told, I only let myself indulge in Spartan loathing for about ten days a year -- a week before the game and a couple days afterward.  The rest of the time I am indifferent.  It's keeping things in perspective.  That's part of being the more mature, bigger brother.

And yes, Sparty's probably going to take a step back next year, but it's way early to write them off as a contender in the league.

I took immense pleasure in the sparty loss for one simple fact: all of their shit talking fans on social media, who acted like they dominated that game. They were a mishandled snap from losing and proceeded to act like they never doubted the outcome. They were given a gift that night and now they know how we all felt.

In atleast two of the last 3 MSU games, Steve Spurrier has been in attendance. Do you believe in coincidence or is Spurrier recruiting Dantonio?

to cheat off the field in order to get a recruiting edge so he can beat a rival that was previously dominating their program?

I know Harbaugh can flip the script on Mike D'antoni without such antics.  No shortcuts necessary.  Tressel cheated the rivalry, Lloyd, and both fanbases by "employing" the services of the likes of Maurice Clarett...not that any OSU fan would care.  Instead they hold parades for the guy who was kicked out of NCAA football.

Thankfully OSU has replaced him with a true leader of men and builder of character. Urban Meyer is a good guy...he holds bible study groups for his players after all.

Dantonio came in at a perfect time to establish a program in E.L.  PSU was a few minutes away from getting hit with a shit ton of infractions and loss of ships, later rescinded. Lloyd took his foot off the gas as far as UM recruiting and evidenced by our depth chart in RR;s first season and his hiring as well. Good coach, bad fit.  Another, even worse, hiring and Dantonio was off and running. IA was on its way down before resurfacing this season. Kill hadn't come into MN yet and the conference was weaker than it had been since Fitz, Tiller, Barry and a few other good hires back in the 90s.  Second place was up for grabs and circumstances were perfect.

But just getting JH doesn't necessarily mean they are going to become weaker. They could very well stay at their current level as indicated in their past two recruiting classes. They've been able to RS players and obviously their development has been outstanding. Although I believe JH will have us at OSU's level in a short time, I feel just as strongly that MSU can remain relevant as the fourth option behind PSU, another program on the rise again.

But no, he will not be able to maintain his current winning pct. there because of UM and PSU's return. I don't think they are "destined" to become irrelevant again, but if M.D. were to head for the SEC - and I don't know why he would want the SC job - they could implode. However, if he stays I expect them to remain a decent team but there will be a drop off in their winning pct. due to the fact that JH and Urb are simply much better coaches. That is taking nothing away from him because he has done a good job. However, when you're up against two of the top in their profession, reason dictates that a shakeup will come.

No matter what happens, as Sam Webb said, Michigan St is like the hobo who hit the lottery.  Sure they have been winning lately, they will soon quickly return to just being the hobo.
