Sort of OT: Is anyone else stranded in Miami?

Submitted by Wendyk5 on January 1st, 2022 at 1:03 AM

Our flight back to Chicago tomorrow (now today) was cancelled, rescheduled, then cancelled again. We now can't get out until Monday. No reason was given; I'm assuming it's the snow. Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm stranded in a glass box. I'm not sure if there's a way out. I exist in it. I didn't choose to be there. Should I enjoy my time in it? What importance does it have. Will it be gone in a blip. The seconds feel long, but the moment it's over, it's as if it barely was at all. There is no escape, but but maybe it's not about getting out. Maybe it's about enjoying the blip.  Maybe the moments have a lasting nature that we cannot perceive due to the nature of time and space relative to the moment. What is meaning at all. Who decides? Is it within ourselves or beyond ourselves or both. Or neither? Are they all possibilities? If so, can one choose the course or is it all contained in this glass box. Everything. Fragile, yet constricting. Terrifying, but beautiful. Hopeless, but the source of all happiness. I'm stranded in this glass box of. I don't know if I want out.

Anyway, that sucks. I'm at home. Probably due to Omicy or staffing shortages. Hope you get out. It might suck, but live in the moment.  It's all there really is. Happy New Year!

So in the end, was it worth it? Jesus Christ. How irreparably changed my life has become. It's always the last day of summer and I've been left out in the cold with no door to get back in. I'll grant you I've had more than my share of poignant moments. Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime, I've left pieces of my heart here and there. And now, there's almost not enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent.

I'm not complaining about where I am, but it was supposed to be a two day trip and now it's a four day trip and I didn't bring enough of the medication that I need to take which isn't a privilege thing at all.

I have had several of my flights cancelled now. Have one this morning now but waiting to hear the news on that one. Seems like United and American have been cancelling everything.

Awesome. I’m supposed to fly American on Monday into Tallahassee but couldn’t get a direct flight on any airline, I assume because of omicron. Instead I’m flying into Charlotte first. Chances of not taking off or being stranded in Charlotte are looking good. Should have just drove the 13 hrs.

United automatically rebooked us on a 6am flight through Houston to get down here on Wed.  We called, waited 90 minutes, and talked to an agent about a better flight.  Ended up on a flight leaving 2 hours later than our scheduled flight.  So, may be worth the effort to talk to a customer service agent to find something better.

My neighbor’s best friend’s uncle is in a very famous polka band called “The Kenosha Kickers”. (I know, cool story bro). Anyways, they are stuck down there too. Just rented a uhaul and are driving back. Let me know and I could probably get you a lift in the back.

I thought this was gonna be about having to wait hours for an Uber after the game. What a terrible set up they have around that stadium. Luckily we got some beer and just sat around at the gas station while we waited.

Quite a few flights back to Detroit have been cancelled too. We have a late flight back tomorrow so hoping it flies as scheduled.

We are at the team hotel. Anyone know when the team flies back to Ann Arbor?

We drove in from Atlanta and kind of glad we did. Happy to put up with 12 hours of driving to save what I’m sure would’ve been close to $1200-$1500 in flight costs, and with all the holiday season flight cancellations it just definitely seemed like an added headache.

Same. Was supposed to fly nonstop to Michigan early this afternoon but it was cancelled and rescheduled (w/different carrier) to Monday afternoon with a short layover in New York. Also didn’t pack enough medication for 2 extra days.

Should have been paying attention to the news last few weeks. Been lots of talk in the news about cancelled flights. It sucks but hey at least you're in Miami, make the most of it.

We went through the cancellation drama getting to FL from Chicago.  Glad we planned to stay for the weekend and go back to Chicago on Monday.  Would have been the complete trip from hell.  I’ve been in your shoes many times.  Just soak up the warm sunshine while you can because full on winter settles in next week.  Best of luck to you!

Yep, ours was cancelled too. Actually cancelled twice. Rescheduled for Monday afternoon. No reason given. I assumed it was cancellations due to covid. We rented a car and are driving. Good luck with your travels.

I'm in the airport in Charlotte now waiting to board a flight to Detroit.  Didn't make it to the game so I could share the nightmare with my mother who wouldn't travel because of her age and Covid.  There are a lot of people in line to talk to the agent and it looks like a bit of a third world country here so I assume there are stranded people trying to get back.

Looks like we get to join the extended vacation club! Just had my AA flight for tomorrow morning back to DTW cancelled. First available flight is Monday. I guess there are worse places to be stuck.

My last trip to Miami I got stranded for an extra 5 days. Flight was fine but I caught covid and had to quarantine at the Hilton eating Uber eats and door dash, which isn’t awesome after awhile. Just the thought of Miami makes my eye twitch now.

FYI for anyone dealing with cancellations. Lots of credit cards have excellent Trip Delay benefits as long as you paid for your flights using the card.

For example, most Chase cards allow you to be reimbursed up to $500 per person to pay for hotels, meals, parking, etc while you're delayed.
