So called Michigan fans rooting against the team.

Submitted by Griff88 on

Over the past few days, I have heard Michigan fans rooting against the team. Today I heard some on the radio, sorry that Michigan won to become bowl eligible. All this because these so called fans don't want Rich Rodriguez as coach.

It's one thing to be critical of the way things have gone. Many fans aren't happy, and understandably so. Coach Rodriguez is not without blame. He deserves heat for the mistakes he has made. The missteps with defensive recruiting. The defensive staff he has put together. These are just a couple of legitimate criticisms, there are others. However, whatever reasons may exist... it doesn't justify rooting against the team you supposedly love.

Those kids played their hearts out today. They could have folded any number of times, but they didn't. That speaks to not only their character, but how much they believe in the man that is leading them. To have people who call themselves Michigan fans root against them and spit on their effort, to take joy out of their misfortune, to wish ill on the program... you people are vultures who are front runners, masquerading as Michigan fans.

You don't like Rich Rodriguez, fair enough. However, if you are rooting against those kids wearing the winged helmet, just to see him fail... you should be ashamed of yourselves.

if you root for Michigan to lose, you are not a Michigan fan in any way, shape, or form, because that means you're rooting against those players out on the field putting their health on the line for Michigan.

Sometimes the victories you truely remember come during "down" years, where the team could have lost at any point in the game, but kept coming back, not quitting, and really giving everyone their money's worth. Wish I could have been at that game and in the stands for that final play. Could tell on tv that it was loud, and the team responded. Never left the tv during the entire game, even when it looked bad, and my wife was already giving me crap for the "futility" of rooting for this team. She's a Wisconsin fan. "why don't you root for a good team" she says, grrrrrrrr.

Even  with the ridiculous yards and score given up by M, the D did look better, they contained the run much better than against PSU, tackled and hit better, just gave up some big plays, but with all the freshmen, what ya gonna do? They got valuable experience winning a close game. On to Purdue, Go Blue, finally a happy Sunday, hope the Lions win!!

First time poster, lifrelong fan. I have been a fan of UM for many, many decades. I have meny, many fond memories of the past and present. I can tell you I was not a huge fan of the RR hire, but as a lifelong fan, I have supported all the way. I have attended games for about 30 years and this year I was able to attain season tickets. I did so with great hope for a great season. Yesterday was the 5th game my son and I attended this year and what a hell of a game! There were times that we both thought, shit, this one is another loss, but not unlike the team, we never really gave up hope. I have attended about 75 Michigan home games and I can tell you without doubt, this was the loudest I have ever heard that stadium! Yes, there were times where it quited down, but we were seated at the opposite end of the student section, and theere were numerous times it was so loud, I quit yelling just to listen....I could not here the student section at all, as the whole place was rocking...causing more than one timeout by Ill.

I concur with most here, anyone rooting agianst the MAIZE and BLUE are not fans

There are some people for whom being "right" is a lot more important than being loyal.  These are the same people who know the best coach, the best coordinators, and the best scheme while never having set foot on the field.  In reality they are bitter little people who have very little joy in their lives and who must tear down others in order to feel good about themselves.

The effort of our players was epic and will be spoken about in the same breath as MSU 04.  No one is satisfied with our defense but there is legitimate reason to believe they will be better.  Haters are going to hate but fans will always be supportive.  If we ever reach a point where twelve of our athletes don ski masks and attack other students, then I will call for a change at the top. In the meantime, let's celebrate this week and hope we can upgrade our bowl appearance next week.

If you lemmings are happy with having to score 65 fucking points against an OK Illinois team, more power to you. The complete lack of defense still makes my stomach turn. I want DickRod gone.

The UFR on "Buccaneer_9":

He says he didn't watch the Illinois game.

I gather that means that he not only wasn't at the game; but he didn't even flop his ass down in front of a tv to watch it.  Which means that while we were witnessing what he now wants to criticize, he was... what?  What were you doing, Buccy-boy?

I probably would not have bothered to write, if you had simply written some sort of criticism of the defense (with which I might well have agreed) or some thought of your own, hopefully something original, about the Rodriguez coaching tenure.  Which you'd have every right to do, and which might even get you enough points to do something other than troll.

But, well, you called the Head Coach "Dick Rod."

You're a dick.  A tool.  You're worthless, except as a reminder to everybody what the difference is between public forums like MGoBlog which are fun an interesting, and public forums like sportstalk radio or the Freep.com comments pages, which are low-life wastes of time.

Didn't watch that game yesterday because I knew the defense was going to get torched as it had in the three previous games.

But if you insist...Here's your defensive review:  Giving up 65 points = it sucks.

DickRod hasn't done much to improve the defense in his time here, and I don't see any evidence of that changing.

The guy has been a bad fit from day one here.  I tried to support him, but he has shown NO interest in us getting better on defense.  I'll be happy when he's gone.

to not have your support at this time.

Why not shoot Dave Brandon an email?  He'd probably appreciate hearing from someone of your stature.  He'll be moved, of course to know that you gave it your very best shot and tried to support Coach Rodriguez.

Of course, there's the distinct possiblity that Rich Rodriguez will be at Michigan, running a successful program, for many years to come.  And given that sometimes there's no choice but to give up on something that is irreconcilable, perhaps it's time for you to find something else to do with your fall Saturdays.  Sounds like you've already started.

You're right.  I was actually at work during the game, so even if I wanted to, I could not have watched.  I've already decided to be more productive with my time, instead of wasting 3-4 hours hoping against hope that we will not get embarrassed on national television.  I'll resume watching Michigan Football when the new head coach is named.

...Rich Rodriguez will be at Michigan, running a successful program, for many years to come...

I wouldn't bet on it dude.

You've been a member of this blog for well over a year, almost 2.  I think it's safe to say that you accumulated a number of points with your posts.

Recently you've been negbombed down to -45 MGoPoints.

What changed?  It had to have been recent, because it seems like you would have been negbombed into oblivion a while ago.

Sure Rich Rod has had his issues and he shares some of the blame for the defensive situation, but look at the turn around this year:

  1. We are returning almost the entire team, on offense and defense
  2. We are #5 in Total Offense
  3. We are #9 in Rushing Offense
  4. We are #28 in Passing Offense
  5. Denard is #2 Rusher in the country
  6. Denard is #11 in Passer Rating

Sure our defense is equally as bad as our offense is good, but looking ahead, the rest of this year and next year, the only direction to go is up.

RR has had 3 years to turn this team around and there is steady progression.  He now has his style of offense, and they are doing exactly what we brought him in here to do.  Adjustments will be made on defense, whether that's on the coaching staff or on the field, I'm assuming both.

I don't understand what you want to accomplish by voting him out.  The next coach in line (assumed) would be Harbaugh, but can he do the same thing with these kids as what RR can do?  I would say no.  So now we'll have attrition, and have to wait another 3 years to rebuild.  I don't want to wait, I like what I see for the future.

Bottom line, our future is extremely bright.  I am so pumped for our prospects.  I hope you soon realize that and start watching again.

I stand behind our team and our coach, Go Blue!!!

True fans are the ones that stick around for the last 3 years and have watched the Ups and downs.  I for one could not be more happier that the monkey is finally off RR's back and being bowl eligible should negate any talk of getting fired.  Great day of football and hopefully this win can be a catalyst and lets go knock those Boilers/Badgers/Buckeyes off too!

......cheer for MI, cheer for the student athletes............we've seen what this team can do when they're playing well...........getting rid of RR will not make things better.
