Not sure that Rutgers came into the game knowing what a screen pass is.

secondary, but I do think he was more accurate. Rutgers actually had pretty good coverage on a few of those throws.

He was much more accurate, and his timing was greatly improved. He had a couple bad balls in there, but he played very well overall.

Rudock had a career day and it's a good thing. I'm sure the way Speight came off the bench gave him a little extra incentive. We need him to continue to do so - in this offense there are so many opportunities to make plays for a decent QB.
That being said, he's still a couple seconds late on his throws. Receivers need to settle in and wait for the ball to arrive. Hit our receivers in stride and we'd have more TD's and YAC. At least he's starting to give our WR's a chance though, instead of 20 yards over their head.
Good for Jake for playing well yesterday, and he needs to continue to improve. I just don't think we'll have that extra time against Penn St and definitely not against OSU.
Watching Armstrong shred Sparty's DB's on the last drive of the game, I thought back to what should have happened to that secondary if we had a good QB.

Of course Rudock comes in and goes Heisman after last week.

Rudock showed what he is capable of doing. Great Job by Rudock!!! Drake Johnson had some great runs along with Smith and Jake Butt and the WRs did an excellent job. It was a great to see a good offense.

Well, some numbers and good ones at that -
- 18 for 26 and 337 yards breaks down to 18.72 yards per completion and 12.96 yards per attempt.
- 150 yards of rushing on 42 attempts is 3.57 yards per carry on average. Smith leads the day here - 15 carries for 73 yards is 4.87 yards per carry.

Rudock looked solid, made smart decisions, and protected the football.
Can't ask for much more than that.

Too deceptive, the offense.

It felt to me that Rutgers was daring Rudock to beat them ... and he did. They were overplaying the run all night. I don't think the O-Line or RBs / FBs played badly. I think Rutgers was just playing run on almost any play.
That's why Rudock had a great night, but he HAD to. Not taking anything away from Rudock. He played great. Rutgers gave him the opportunity and he took it.
This should make it very clear to the remaining teams on our schedule to not overplay the run so much.

Mr. Butt had an excellent game. The pass play up the middle in the third quarter was impressive.

At the start of the year - Harbaugh and his coaches realized that none of the current QBs they had inherited could handle the system he wanted to implement - so they went looking and found Ruddock.
The same could be said about the RBs. Only Drake Johnson has the elusiveness and speed that is needed at the RB position. The others seem more suited to the FB role - so logically Houma could play for them - he blocks very well, doesn't fumble, catches passes out of the backfield and when asked to hit a straight line hole - well, he does that real well.
Really strong evidence that the RB situation was not as good as it may have seemed

throw the ball better. Rutgers was playing the run and stacking the box. Rudock needs to keep it up and I'm sure the run game will improve once opposing defense respect the passing game! We need good balance heading into the next 3 games!
