Snap Count Depth Chart

Submitted by trueblueintexas on September 16th, 2021 at 1:58 PM

I posted this as a reply in the Snap Count thread yesterday and since I had the format set, decided I would go back and do the WMU game as well. Here is what the snap counts look like in a depth chart format.

This is according to The Wolverine.com. These are not completely accurate based on what I watched happen. I know Dan Villari ran 3 keepers during the WMU game but is credited with only 1 snap. Oh well, here's what the mostly accurate numbers are.

Here's the WMU game:

Here is the Washington game:

Boy, looking at the depth charts, Michigan is going to have a real fucking good O-Line and RB for a couple years.  If Corum comes back, Hart has a fun decision to make...split carries 60/40 between Corum and Edwards, or give Corum 85 percent of carries and finish top 2 H-Man.

Nice work OP.  And this is the type of user-created content that candidly sets this place apart from all the rest.  Go to any blog for any school and try to find this level of game detail provided by a visitor to the site, much less the curators.

FWIW I dont know what to make of this data but it sure is cool.

Anyone else wondering where Seldon & Morant are?  We haven't seen either of them much at all.  As top 200 recruits who aren't freshman any longer that's a bit surprising.

Seldon allegedly had COVID last year so his year 1 freshman season was effectively a wash. This is functioning as his first full year practice wise as a member of the team.

Morant had a gnarly ankle injury from HS that carried over into the very goofed up COVID year. I believe he's still a year away from competing in earnest for time let alone like getting his sea legs back.

That shows the importance of valuing every single scholarship and building depth at all times. No such thing as “they signed 3 top RB last cycle so it’s all good” as some opine - top programs never let up.

Not saying those dudes aren’t panning out (I have no clue) but obviously some guys just don’t develop for various reasons. Never know who transfers, etc. Keep stacking best possible classes to consistently develop impact players.

Pulling for seldon. He was fighting uphill given size issues but I liked his attitude and style on tape

Excellent information for us lurkers. ;)

Only thing I might suggest as an "improvement" at first glance is to add the players jersey numbers to this. Sometimes I can't read the player's name on TV but I can see his number.

Very cool. It's nice to see the actual data of what happened, not a coach's pregame declaration.

I am pretty sure Edwards got a couple carries against Washington (recognize you said you didn't create the underlying data).

Believe someone posted in the other snaps thread but one thought is that Paige has a leg up last year as he played in a Don Brown-esque defense in HS, letting him see the field early. On the new system it may be taking him a little more time to pick up than others? He also may be playing through something, or maybe we were just showcasing some freshman for the recruiting weekend? We will know more in a few more games if guys are getting passed.

Great job trueblueintexas, and much appreciated, how much time it probably took you.... This is quite informative and shows the rise of certain players....like Kris Jenkins.  the kid is gonna be good and his snaps are increasing.  Whittley too will be getting more. Colson got more snaps and i hadn't realized was so much.  Love it.

This format is way better. And helps put snaps into context.

I mentioned before the season that Michigan needs to (and have the roster depth to) confidently rotate ~6-8 players on the D-Line.

Welp. There ya go.

The DL (not counting the Rush LB) played 8 with 16+ snaps in each game.
