Shea Patterson at triple A camp + some ugly hazing
Shea Patterson is (freep link) reportedly in Texas with the triple A Rangers team, Round Rock Express until Friday when practice starts in Ann Arbor. He reported some awful hazing however.
"Yeah, they played a joke on me when I walked into the clubhouse,” Patterson told the American-Statesman. “I get to the locker, and there are about 40 Ohio State pictures, logos, memorabilia, stuff with Coach (Urban) Meyer, Brutus The Buckeye and all the rest. It was a very warm welcome. "Actually, it was hilarious, and I had a good laugh out of that one.”
Additionally this freep article mentions that his contract is for six years, but provides football first for his two remaining years of eligibility.
It's sad that people can be so cruel sometimes. Maybe counseling will help sooth some of the pain & anguish this young man has experienced.
or he could throw 5 TDs against OSU this fall, that would work too.
I think this fanbase could use a bit of that therapy too...
beat OSU and I don't know what I'd do, but whatever it is..I hope no one is around with a camera :)
It's ok with me if he only throws for 4 and scrambles for 2. That's the kind of soothing I need.

TD1: OSU CB tackles the receiver before the ball is thrown, Shea throws over the blatant PI like he's coached, no flag
TD2: McKeon catches ball at one-yard line and falls forward, ball is spotted at the 2
TD3: Harbaugh penalized for stroking his chin in an aggressive manner after Meyer marches halfway across the field to yell in protest, refs rule "no play"
TD4: Black makes an acrobatic catch in the back of the end zone, lands with both feet in bounds, ruled incomplete
TD5: Shea is hit as he throws, DPJ catches and runs into the end zone, Shea is ejected for targeting, Michigan loses the TD and the down because that's how they call it in Calvinball

Now that's in my head. Curse you, your hippy username, and your icon photo edit that makes Don Brown look like Wilford Brimley!
Agggghh...I can see this happening. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
I hope Shea is the guy who internalizes it all and takes it out on opponents. Football is too far away....
#sheatoo!
for the love of humanity, where has the empathy for others gone?!
You want him to be like the waterboy? Visualize and attack?
Texans are actually more obnoxious than Buckeyes.
Nope
FAKE NEWS
False, but nice try. I would accept Boston sports fans or Spartans are more annoying than Buckeye's but any other answer is immediately suspect.
Maybe Texan Buckeyes. Anything Buckeye is bound to be missing a few cards in the deck, even if they aren't in Ohio...
I find some Michigan fans more obnoxious than Buckeyes.
So they filled his locker with fecal matter?
Yep, scatological humor at its worse.
this is a violation of the geneva convention
Had a very similar experience here in Cleveland back in the early 2000s after a (at the time) rare OSU win over Michigan. Entire office got done up with OSU crapola and they replaced my Michigan stuff with Buckeye garbage.
I miss those days. Now they treat a win over us with as much general excitement as we do a win over Indiana. They EXPECT it so it's no big deal.
Is Shea getting paid for this baseball contract, as long as he doen't sign with an agent?
So he's simply participating in batting practice and drills, no games, with an emphasis on putting college football (and academics) first, not the other way around. The inference being that he's staying on top of NCAA requirements for amateurism.
Also there are several players doing this currently across the country, and it happens sometimes more often in other sports, so I would be beyond surprised if there's anything wrong here.
So what about the 23 year old QB that is going to Auburn - he was a 3rd round pick of the Phillies and played 6 years minor leagues and had a $775K signing bonus. Can someone explain how you can be eligible after signing with a pro team and receiving a signing bonus?
The NCAA has previously ruled that you can be a professional in one sport, and an amateur in another.
At least that’s how I remember it.
Thanks, NCAA sure has some interesting rules on what an amateur is
They sure do! I seem to remember that there’s some sort of additional rule against endorsements or sponsorships in the sport you’re a pro in as well. Most notably Jeremy Bloom (WR/KR) from Colorado was a snowboarder or something and the NCAA wouldn’t let him take any sponsorship money to help pay for his costs in that endeavor.
I wonder how much the OSU players got for their stuff?
Send them to The Hague!
Barbaric. I haven't felt this sick since I stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima. And I've never even been to Iwo Jima.
