Impressive that Henne is still in the league. People joke about Brock Osweiler and Sam Bradford making stupid money as career back ups, but Henne has quietly made about 30 mil despite only being a starter for 3 or 4 years of his 11 year career. Get paid and keep your health

Henne still has a ways to go to join company with the greatest Michigan NFL career backup ever, Todd Collins.

16 seasons in the NFL (Buffalo, KC, Washington, Chicago) with a total of 21 starts, most of those in year 3.

He had a 9-year stretch in the middle (1998-2006) with a grand total of 27 attempts.

Total of 6 seasons with 0 attempts. 3 straight years in KC without ever appearing in a game.

THAT's how you do an NFL career you can walk away from without a limp.

Being a consistent, long-running backup QB is not a joke. It's a good job that has specific requirements. Henne has spent time as a starter, and has shown his capability to step in and win games as a backup--exactly what a backup QB needs to do.

Of course, they have to put in the work during the week. If you don't, they'll find someone who will. So it's a credit to guys that they build a good career as a backup after their career as a starter doesn't work out (Sam Bradford is not a good example here, he was a starter for a signficant amount of time and has been the subject of transactions specifically designed to establish him as a starter on new teams. Osweiler is the same type, though).

I'm delighted when a guy like Henne or Collins sustains a long career as a backup. They're in football, they're working, they make a good salary. Good for them.

Even if that's true, a spot on the practice squad will get him $8000 a week, $136,000 for the entire season, plus another $8000 for every week that his team is in the playoffs. (And since they're the Chiefs, that's probably another two weeks minimum.)

Even if it's only for one year, a six-figure salary is pretty good for your first job out of college. Save every dime, Shea.

Good for him. Hopefully he can make a roster. Being the backup qb for Kansas City is an easy was to make money in the NFL.

Good for him, and a great organization to go to. Hope he can earn a role on the practice squad, and maybe if he's lucky, in time he can get a roster spot.

If nothing else, half of KC's QB depth chart is comprised of Michigan guys now, since Henne is the #2.

Hey you were first. I mean it wasn’t the worst post ever, we did get a team in there. What’s important is you were first and you got the fake imaginary points. 1 step closer for you to world domination!!!!

Week 3, all-generational QB Patrick Mahomes goes down with a broken spine, meaning he's out for the season.

In comes Shea.

Together, Shea leads the Chiefs to a perfect undefeated season and winning the super bowl.

Shea throws for 6,969 Yards and 420 TDs.

Something, something, Harbaugh didn’t whisper enough to his QB.  Our coach sucks at whispering so therefore the signing of Shea will not silence the whispering of the non-qb whisperer.  Darn.

Glad to see he found a place, and KC is a pretty good spot to land in.  I doubt he'll play in KC, but maybe gets a crack at being the backup and can parlay that into a spot somewhere else.  In an average season A LOT of guys see the field at QB, and Patterson isn't without talent.

besides mahones, can anyone give some info on what the back-up QB situation looks like in KC and what his chances might be of at least making the practice squad?

Shea received more unwarranted hate than any QB that I can think of in recent decades.

We threw 9 tds and 10 ints the year before he came here. He then went on to throw 45 tds and 15 ints in two years with different OC’s. It is a crime that he doesn’t have more adoration. Of course he missed a lot of opportunities, but not for lack of effort.
