The season is over. No one has been fired or resigned. What does this mean?

If someone is to be fired or encouraged to resign, it would seem that time is a'wasting, as other schools (ND, Purdue, Illinois, NW, just in the neighborhood) make their moves and pick low-hanging fruit from the coordinator tree.

I'm always surprised the level of vitriol directed toward umbig11 - even from a quality poster like you XM. Sorry he doesn't have a bug in Jim's brain so he can constantly relay 100% accurate up-to-the-second info but he's shown in the past he clearly has some connections to the program.

my bad, that's not against umbig in any way.   that's ID'ing him as the shark and another poster as the remora who is stuck to him and constantly chips at him, so to speak.  there is a history of whining from the one about the posting of the other.

in seriousness, maybe.  chargers are 5-9 with a strong likelihood of finishing 6-10,  JH used to live and coach in SD so LA won't be such a big change.  but, he does have family in cal, some kids and his ex, it's the holidays, get warm, maybe even do a little recruiting (unless it's a dead period, which i doubt).  i lean toward the extension for JH is done in principal, working on the assistants' pool and candidates.

that said, we are counting on you, agent SD Mick, to find the truth and report it back here, stat!

There is no reason anyone should not trust coach, and his words.  He wants to be the coach at Michigan.  Coach has integrity, like him or hate him, you cannot take that away from him.  Is he happy that changes need to be made to the staff?  Probably not. Is he happy being dictated too (allegedly) in regards to said changes? Probably not.

However, if he doesn't take:

LAC job + Herbert (ROY)

JAX job + Sunshine

or Bears job and convince Luck to comeback.... Well then, he will most likely need to get fired, and that is not happening.

Cheers

I don't really buy this take. Sure, the best quarterback Ohio State has ever produced was probably journeyman Mike Tomczak. That doesn't mean that Fields or whoever follows him won't fall into the right situation and everything will start to click enough to make him a star. Predicting which quarterbacks will do well in the NFL is hard.

I think of Ted Tedford, who had a reputation for producing system quarterbacks. He produced Trent Dilfer, David Carr, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington and Kyle Boller. These were all guys who were good enough to get drafted high and play for a few years in the NFL; the best of them was journeyman Trent Dilfer, most famous for winning the Super Bowl behind one of the Ravens' legendary 2000 defense.

But he also coached Aaron Rodgers.

Am I saying that Fields is the next Aaron Rodgers? To be absolutely clear, fuck no. I am saying that it is *possible* that he or a future Ohio State quarterback will end up with the right coaches on the right team and start to make things click.

(It's even possible Haskins could do this, although at this point I really doubt it. For one thing, Washington is definitely not the right team with the right coaching staff. At the same time, every now and then a guy that most people thought was a bust comes through--like Alex Smith.)

i think in the NFL a guy like fields is a guy without a position.  he's pretty big, something like 6' 3" and maybe 230, but he's not shifty enough or a derrick henry to make it as a pro RB.  as to being an NFL QB, i haven't seen him really impress with complex passing schemes and against talent that is every bit as good as he has on his side of the ball - maybe he will on 1/1 when he plays clemson, but for right now i don't think he has the passing game down to do much in the NFL.  i do think he's likely to get drafted, but not high and not used much.
