Schutt Michigan helmet

Submitted by bigge1014 on

I want to buy a Schutt authentic Michigan helmet and I see they come with the safety bars attached inside.  Has anyone found someone who sells the helmet without the safety bar?  Or know how to remove it?

helmet from this ebay user.  The helmet may not have been 100% authentic, but it looks very accurate.  The maize wings are not paint, they are a decal, however, they look true to the actual design.  The seller states that he can make helmets.  I think he takes the actual helmet design and tries to re-create the helmet to match what the authentic helmets look like.  I'm not exactly sure, but you can email him.

Anyway, like you, I didn't want a UM helmet with a stupid bar in the middle, so I found this guy on ebay.  He had the UM helmet in his listing at the time, although he does not currently show one for auction.  I paid somewhere in the $100-$150 range IIRC.  His helmets do not have the bar and you can try it on.  It's not like I'm going to go and try to run through a brick wall with it on, so I felt the metal bar is pretty ridiculous for anyone with common sense.

Hope this was of some help to you.

Unfortunately it's at home on my laptop. When I go home for lunch I will send it to my work email and post it on here.

Authentic Schutts are $129 and you can customize with the facemask of your choice.  They also have game worn, refrurbed helmets as well.

For those interested in vintage Michigan helmets, they have those too.

Stay tuned.
