Saturday Night BBQ/Bev thread and you Must Buy a Boat
Mates,
Let's have a little levity. Assume you have been ordered to buy a boat, any boat you want, and simultaneously you have been gifted with whatever amount of money would be needed to purchase and maintain said craft for the foreseeable future. It can be a canoe, a sail boat, a bass boat, a (Russian) Oligarch yacht, whatever, but it's time to buy that boat.
1. What type/size boat do you get?
2. And what is on your BBQ and/or in your cup this evening?
Summer sure feels like it's here. Football camp for the twins tomorrow, birthday celebration for oldest son tonight.
Hope you are well,
XM
I would probably get a Nordic Tug 34 for cruising around the San Juan Islands.
Working on some shredded beef for tacos that started with a quick sear on the BBQ.
Very practical, very seaworthy, but it would be difficult for getting to get used to a single screw boat. I think they might make a twin screw, but most are singles, right?

I think the largest can be ordered with twins.
You asked for levity. Sorry, that's all I got. I'm a landlubber.
Love these since I lived out there, a whole bunch of them leave in a group from the harbor here in Traverse city. Trailerable 26 held most interest if not using on the sound. Twin screws and 34 or bigger would be great for watching orcas closeup.
1. oligarch yacht. live in international waters. No rules no laws. watch f1 live in Monaco. Can dock at numerous places in the US fly from there.
2. wife is out of town. Went to work for an hour, then played 18, then went to get gyros at a bar down the road. phenomenal gyros. honestly some of the best I’ve ever had but the owner is Greek so I guess I should have expected it. tater tots as big as a golf ball. had a varied selection of beer all day (oberon, victory pale ale, diamond bear strawberry ale, butcher and brewer albino stout, and of course PBR)
Lord Stanley’s playoffs just started so, doing that for the rest of the night with the dog
I think I would have to go with the Viking 90SB

We're grilling burgers tomorrow and tonight just kicking it at Yardhouse, so I guess burgers all weekend down here in South Florida.
Great looking boat. Borderline oligarch type.
Nautique G23 (avatar checks out). Surf, board, cruise. Top notch craftsmanship. Out of my budget but someday…
currently have an older boat from the same company and the family and friends have a blast on it. In laws live on a lake so storage and access is prime.
Wally Power 165

Grady white express 370 if money were no object. Realistically, I'd love my next boat to be a parker 2320. It's trailerable and does everything I really need a boat to do with room for family and friends to fish, scallop, dive, whatever.
Water in the cup, spicy seafood boil for eats.
Enjoy the football and festivities, and be sure to wish your son a happy birthday from my family!
Grady white makes a great boat.
I'm guessing that water in your cup isn't brown.....
Hope you and your family are having a wonderful weekend.
Have you tried any of the new offerings you received recently?
I haven't opened any myself yet.
Having owned, and attempted to live on a 30' mono-hull, I'd be looking at something a little over 40' and a catamaran. Maybe something like a Leopard 43. Small enough that you could still single hand it if you needed too, but big enough to live on and cross an ocean.
No BBQ because I had leftover meatloaf to make sandwiches with. And it's a nice cool evening, so a Modelo Negro sounds nice.
Are those power or sail? I think there’s both types.
Leopard 43 is a sailing catamaran, but generally have two Volvo diesels.
My 30' was a Catalina sailboat. Technically big enough to live in, but I was at a slight stoop anytime I was anywhere aside from the galley.
Absolutely. Small boats can go anywhere, and be reasonably liveable, but doing crossings in chop with a 30' glass hull could be a contact sport.
I just grilled a delicious flank steak. Lightly S&P, then marinated in a sugar free teriyaki. I didn’t quite get the bark I wanted, probably due to the lack of sugar in the marinade, but overall good taste.
Give me a Grady White Canyon 456 and I’m good to go.
Too much rain in NH tonight for outdoor cooking so cooked up a bolognese.
Wow I just looked that one up. Sweet.
Gives me something to think about when I'm playing with my dinghy.
had to look that one up. has to be about the world's biggest 'center console' fisherman. and for those that might not know, grady-white made their bones producing super solid trailerable fishing boats. you might call them 'pocket bertrams', though now they are of course making much bigger boats.
I spent a good part of my childhood bringing grady white catalogs home to my dad and uncle trying to convince them to buy a 23 or 24 foot boat. By the time I was about 13 (late 90s) my dad finally caved and ended up with a 25' 1960s Bertram with new inboard volvo pentas. It was a freaking tank, we'd take it through the golden gate and troll/mooch for salmon. Good times, not a flashy boat, not in great condition, barely broke 10 knots, but good memories.
i have owned two bertrams, but sold the last one when we were blessed with our full complement of kids. spent many days on the ocean and the great lakes on those two. don't know if we'll ever get another one, but would seriously consider it when last child parachutes out of the house. have been known to look at boats on line.
If I did buy, it would be a small lake boat, shallow draft and easy to tow and store. I'd like to be able to take it anywhere so I'd get more use out of it. Can always add a bbq, cooler, sunshade, and stereo to suit. Might aim for something with a console head for emergencies.
The pipe dream would be to work remote via satellite from a small cabin sailor or catamaran, bumming around the south Pacific.
If money was no object I'd personally prefer a Black Cat 50 over any motor yacht.
I smoked a pair of pork tenderloins with a sweet/savory rub, cheddar crust in the broiler, and spiced applesauce on the side.
Drinking sotol with a Partagas tonight.
Cheers everyone! Whatever you pick, I hope you enjoy the pants out of it.
I need a boat that will allow me to gather information without attracting attention wherever I'm traveling. I haven't decided on a model. Something like this:
I plan to start on the Chicago River.
- - -
Tonight's beverage was an IPA from Aldi ("Hopping Nomad"). Not bad for that weight class .....
Does your boat come with a standard set of 50 caliber machine guns?
No matter how much you might want mangos, never get out of the boat.
1. A pirate ship. Complete with a plank for all my enemies to walk.
2. Some sliders from a local place.
Drinking High Life, baby!
Happy weekend, all and Happy BDay to the son!
I'm getting a motherfucking canoe
I'm drinking diet mountain dew. Just ate 200mg of gummies and am now sitting here watching Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
Go Nuggets.
200mg would have me in the ER! Good luck with that!
My body is either really good or really bad a processing the THC. I've always needed a large dose to get stoned when consuming edibles. Believe me im super jealous of my wife who can eat 50mg go to the stratosphere.
High tolerance
Movie night with the wife. Five Guys for dinner and The Balvenie in my glass.
We occasionally rent pontoons at our local lake
Cheers!
What movie?
is baseball season over for your boys?
“Those That Wish Me Dead” ~ Surprisingly good!
Baseball for the kids was over a couple years ago with my youngest after 14U. Fun ride for about 30 years!
Don't know much about boats, but my best friend who lives on Spring Lake has a sweet tri-hull pontoon boat that I like very much.
Played in a golf outing today to raise money for cancer victims. Had chicken and beef tacos and a PBR afterwards. Now enjoying my second pour of bourbon.
Happy Birthday to your son and best wishes to all my fellow MgoBloggers!!
Any boat that doesn’t sink when it hits an iceberg. Not going to make that mistake again
The Love Boat
Realistically, I would rather have jet skis.
Eating salisbury steak that my mom gave me and drinking Jack Daniel’s
Soon we'll be making another run...
We're watching season 1 of the X Files, after eating Kevin's Cilantro Lime Chicken for dinner. If you're not familiar with Kevin's, it's a sous vide chicken breast that comes with a packet of sauce, in this case, cilantro lime. It cooks up in about three minutes in a skillet. It's a little pricey for how much you get so I gussy it up with roasted vegetables and rice, or tonight, I added some leftover elotes from a Mexican meal I had a few days ago (elotes is Mexican corn mixed with creme and cotija cheese). Good, easy meal. No boat for me.
Trust No One
The Truth Is Out There
Kevin gonna be pissed when he gets home.
I'll have to look for that
I've gotten them at Target and at my local large chain grocery store. They also have them at Whole Foods, where they're often on sale. I've also had their cauliflower mac n cheese which was really good. Found that at Target. It all works for paleo/low carb diets, too, if you're into that.

Good stuff and my favorite flavor. I look for it on special at krogers.
If I'm being totally selfish, I'm getting a Stealthcraft power drifter and wreaking havoc on the rivers here in the mitten. If I'm looking for a family fishing vessel, I'd go for an 18 foot Lund. If I am forced to find a compromise between a fishing boat and pleasure craft, I'd go for a 21' Grady White to cruise around on Lake Michigan.
I'm drinking bourbon. Wellers. It's delicious.
I don't leave dry land.
I'm enjoying a voluptuous little Sicilian Nero d'Avola while watching The Godfather.
