That's a lot of beef.
That's what she said.
That's not what she said.
Maybe we'll have our own Vince Wilfork? Cool.
This would be a good move, but let's pump the breaks on Vince Wilfork comparisons. I really doubt Whittley is going to be one of the greatest NTs of all time.
He was making a joke in reference to his size. Whitley, like Wilfork, is huge.
How good is Whittley? He’s Jerry Ball sized (+28 pounds). Does he play like Jerry? If we want him I assume he’s good.
Looks like I'm gonna have to put my full faith in Courtney Morgan with this one.
From Oregon Live:
The oft-injured career of defensive tackle Jordan Whittley has come to an end at Oregon State.
The seventh-year defensive tackle announced on social media that he plans to put his name in the NCAA transfer portal. Whittley is a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.
Whittley signed with Oregon State in 2019 after playing two years at Laney College. Whittley came to the program as an answer to some of its defensive line issues, as he was 6-foot-1 and 330 pounds, with quickness as a former running back.
Whittley showed some potential in 2019, when he wasn’t sidelined with injuries. Whittley had 14 tackles, including 3½ for losses.
Whittley, who received a medical redshirt year of eligibility, never played again. Whittley had physical and health issues, including what he reported on social media as a tumor near his heart.
Whittley’s weight significantly ballooned over the past two years. He didn’t practice during the 2020 season. Whittley was often seen at spring practice, but wearing workout clothes as he trained away from the field with the strength and conditioning staff. Prior to last Saturday’s spring game, Whittley was among those reported as out because of COVID-19 issues.
Well...gotta say that puts a damper on my hopes that he'll be a key contributor. Seems like he was a quality starter at 330 but hasn't played in 2 years and has another 30 lbs on him that I'm gonna go out on a limb and say probably isn't 'good' weight.
Jeebus. Forget football, if he makes it out of Ann Arbor in decent health it's a huge win for him. Sounds like it would take a semi-miracle for him to play.
Risk/reward type deal on this guy. Maybe this S&C staff can get him conditioned in those areas of weakness that were causing him these injuries. We can only hope.
Well quite a few red flags here., hmmm, possibly a change in scenery is all he needs?!
7th year? Is he transferring to U of M or Hillside Terrace?
I wouldn't make that assumption necessarily. The last DL transfer we brought on couldn't make the two-deep and just transferred to UMass.
He was on OL.
That’s almost Onwenu-sized! I always wondered what he would’ve been capable of at DT, even to put in on goal line situations (maybe instead of Jordan Glasgow..)
GO BLUE!!! Get us a big thick hole plugger that can take on double teams...yes please!!! # Insert same old lame tired ass inane comments and sexual innuendo...I think I'm gonna go find some embed issues to bitch about # laugh emoji
I guess I'll be the guy to get everyone's hopes up but I don't know if anyone saw his ESPN Junior College ranking.
Dude. Next time use the Snipping Tool (or whatever the equivalent is in your desktop [EDIT: phone] environment) and include only the relevant part.
Anyone else concerned about taking a kid who had a tumor near his heart... has ballooned in weight according to the article posted and is often injured? seems like there are a few red flags lol
I think this is definitely a risk reward type situation. He has one year left so if he doesn’t work out it doesn’t really hurt you. But he’s 25 and a huge space eater. If he has a good season he will be a huge plus for the team
As rotational piece, no worries. 7th year. Now that's a man. He's probably getting AARP mail.
Beggars can't be choosers.
Some things about Jordan Whittley:
- This will be his seventh or eighth season in college. He played for two years at Laney Community College before going to Oregon State.
- He originally signed with San Jose State out of high school, but academic issues prevented him from attending, so he enrolled in JuCo.
- He was 225 pounds coming out of high school, ballooned up to about 400 before settling back in the 320 range.
- He was in the 2014 recruiting class coming out of high school, along with Jabrill Peppers, Da’Shawn Hand, Leonard Fournette, Chase Winovich and Wilton Speight.
- He came into college as a running back and then gained 100 pounds and moved to defensive tackle.
Seems like an interesting dude.
Thanks for the awesome background tidbits. He sounds like a great addition for this season.
We know how he’ll fare in the cafeteria. Hopefully he can do as well in the trench.

Not the whole thing unfortunately, but I can't find it.
Nice work. That should be posted here every month or so. One of my favorite all-time MGoBlog finds.
Put in a crystal bowling ball?
More like a crystal gravy boat, from the sounds of it.
Here comes the beef! Color me happy. We are getting big boys back again. I won't miss Browns defense vs Wisconsin.
But am still waiting for Nua to land a Samoan. Hoke did it why can't he.

If he's a grad transfer, what degree or grad program is he transferring into?
Culinary
You are on a roll in this thread Putin...???
He could clog the middle!
I'd be more excited if he can get his weight up to 360.
