Sam Webb crystal ball for WR Tay’shawn Trent to Michigan

6’4” 205lb WR out of Eastpoint, MI. Currently ranked as 4 star and #277 national and #39 WR and #7 player in Michigan. Ranked lower at a rating of 88 on 247 rankings. Looks like a big body WR who could maybe transition to flex TE if he continues to grow.

Tay fell in love with Gattis early in the recruitment. MSU made a big push during the season when Michigan seemed to cool a bit, and he really was considering there. Bellamy made a big push for him once joining the staff and sealed the deal (he also said Harbaugh was a big part of the late push as well).

My best attempt at a non-biased assessment:

Elite and I mean elite ball skills. His high pointing ability and body control is amongst the best I’ve seen from a HS receiver (watch the highlight of him Moss-ing MSU commit Tyrell Henry) Pretty decent speed for his size (4.6ish range). Tough kid but a lot of the route tree hasn’t really given him a ton of opportunities for catches in traffic in the middle of the field. With that, I would say his route running ability hasn’t had enough diversity to make a judgement on. The kid was about the 5th best kid on the 8th grade PAL team, so that goes to show how much growth he has done and continuing.

I wouldn’t pay to much attention to the 247 rating as 247 likes the speedy elusive guys over the bigger more physical guys. A good example is how they tanked Cristian Dixon, Beaux Collins, Marvin Harrison Jr rankings last year just because they don’t fit the speedster mold.
