As stated by master lyricist Lil Jon, "put yo hood up."
I was going to post about this, too. E.J. Holland from Rivals put in a FutureCast for Hood to Michigan, too.
I really like Hood, and I don't understand why 247 has him as a 3-star. He's fast and loves to hit. Get Hood and Colson at linebacker in 2021 and I'll be very happy.
Boom.....Now we need to Colson to jump in!
He’s a 3 star to rivals as well.
So ESPN must love him, because he is a composite 4 star.
The Op compared him to Bush who was criminally underrated during his recruitment as well. I really enjoy your work and insight Magnus. Any idea what the deal is with the Defensive line recruiting? Specifically the interior guys seems like they skipped out on any last class and don’t seem to be in the running for any this cycle. Seems like M took a lot of safety/linebacker ‘tweener types recently.
Seems like Michigan is pushing for Quintin Somerville, Dallas Turner, Derek Wilkins, Darryl Patterson, and Patrick Hisatake as DE targets. DL is mostly focused around Rayshaun Benny, trying to flip Jay Toia. Not ruling out Kelvin Gilliam as another one who Michigan pushes for as they led in the recruitment at one point. Ikenna Ugbaja may become another name since he’s a DT from MA. Beyond that... “shrugs”
Edit: Forgot about current commits. TJ Guy is likely headed for SDE/3T. Giudice is probably a 3T as well.
What about Tywone Malone?
Michigan’s going after both him and JT Tuimoloau, but they’re both long shots. 247 has both as OSU leans. I know Michigan doesn’t have any classic DTs on the radar right now but it seems from the people that Shaun Nua is targeting, they do really want some classic big DTs this cycle
It's safe to consider any under radar DE between 6'4-6'5 and 230-260 pounds as a project that they'll process if theyre not able to add on the weight and keep athleticism. It's how you recruit tackles now.
It’s concerning that’s what the staffs doing. It’s almost like they’d rather have Lawrence Marshall than no hurst. Even browns defenses were best when he had big DT’s in the earlier years.
it would be concerning if the staff was concerned about your concern about the direction of their recruiting
Hurst was 280 and not one of the "big DTs" in the earlier years.
Marshall was 285 in college.
Hurst was 6'2" so he looked like a bowling ball.
you're actually wrong. Browns heaviest DT was 300 pounds. I've crunched numbers, and over 50% of defensive tackles drafted in the first two days of the NFL draft weren't recruited as DTs. Its really hard to get a 300+ pounder out of high school that can move well.
I'm guessing he's a 3-star because of size. But I think we'll ll take another Devin Bush, who had the same knock against him. Great stuff!
I have become so shell shocked the past couple of years, that now rather than auto-negging Maizen & his many iterations, I'm looking to him to see if we can breathe easier that this is a player that can help M slow osu once more!
Sad times...
Excuse my ignorance. Who is Colson?
4 star linebacker out of Tennessee , Michigan is at worst in his top group and perhaps in the lead.
I likey.
St. Thomas Aquinas prospect...yes please. From the state of Florida...yes please.
The next Devin Bush...oh yes please.
Damn, he looks mean. Let's bag him!
Can he shoot the 3ball at a 40% clip though?!
He looks like a good addition to the class. Hopefully he comes.
Something something only a 3*, something something recruit Michigan better, something something can’t beat Ohio State with these players
Im not afraid to admit I have a bit of a man crush going on
This is awesome. This should put us ahead of Ohio in recruiting
4 star with Alabama and LSU offers and you're bitching. Shut up.
Go find another team to root for. Please.
I thought it was funny.
Kid looks like a good get. I hope we land him. Anyone like Bush please. My favorite player since Denard. Always want players who leave it all on the field (when there not tearing it up with their cleats)
Florida 4* with big time offers...yes please.
Does he have a 300 lb cousin with a crazy first step? ...Asking for a D-line coach friend
He’s teammates with Michigan commit CB Ja’Den McBurrows and high 4*/possible 5* WDE target Dallas Turner if that counts
So much talent in Florida. This guy ~50 in the state is nuts ?
I mean Devin Bush was supposedly number 62 or something crazy like than in FL, but top 10 pick, so sometimes in a state that is as talent-rich as FL, they actually miss some gems.
As a recruit, Devin was constantly praised for his play and constantly criticized for his height. Had he been a couple inches taller he would have been properly ranked.
it was a case of the services myopically focuses on one thing rather than them missing him.
Projecting players in recruiting and draft analysis has long been based on potential, which is basically a combination of size and athleticism. If you're big and athletic you get ranked highly, ie Rashan Gary. If you're not, even if your play is at a high level, ie Bush, JMFR, etc. you get ranked lower. It's like Moneyball, analysts get fooled by how good a guy looks without pads on and tricks them into thinking they are better football players than they are. And, guys that play well, but don't look the part as much also get undervalued.
Is he four star enough for the Three Star Mafia (tm)
Dude looks like a heat seeking missile. He seems to have good vision at tracking the ball carrier. His closing speed is pretty good as well. I would definitely welcome him if he chooses to come.
Anyone know if both McBurrows and Hood come, if Dallas Turner becomes a possibility?
Yes.
But can he play DT?
/s
Like it! C'mon aboard young man!
Side note...any relation to Darnell Hood? I always thought he was really talented back in the day and somewhat surprised he didn't play more.
I feel good, good, good about Hood.
Pay him.
I wasn't sure if this was a football or basketball recruit. Now that I see it is football I'm running for the hills before this turns ugly.
All I want to know is .... does this get us closer to beating OSU ....
