Sam Webb and guy from Scout say Devin Gardner is best player in MI
Sam Webb and a guy from Scout watched Gardner perform at a recent camp which all of the top guys from Michigan apparently attended. Both said he was the best player there - Webb said he was easily the best. Webb even said that he was the best wide receiver there, better than Ricardo Miller. I recommend listening to the clip, even though you have to get through a short part about a stripper pole: http://www.wtka.com/index.php?fuseaction=home.podcasts_sel&id=1682
Not surprising. It's amazing how good of an athlete he is. I know that at the majority of the camps he's been to, he has worked out at WR and DB just messing around and has dominated. He is an absolute freak of a kid. With some polishing of his mechanics he has the potential to be a great QB for our program.
That being said, I don't think that he is the best recruit in Michigan. In my opinion, he has the greatest potential but I don't think that's what's used to measure the "greatest player in the state." He has the potential to be dominating at 2 positions, however currently (RIGHT NOW) he isn't as college-ready as a guy like Gholston. Regardless, I am VERY excited for what the future holds for DG and Michigan.
is nowhere near college ready. he's gonna be playing DE at MSU and quite honestly he's not very good at it yet. i really think you can flip a coin for who the number one player in the state is between the two of them. it always comes up DG for me though :p.
Sorry, I just reread what I wrote and realized that it didn't come off the way I intended. I agree that Gholston needs some work too, the point I was trying to make was that at his position, Gholston is more college ready. By that I mean that he has the ability, despite his need for some coaching, to play and make an impact earlier than DG. He has the physical ability, like you mentioned, to come in and make some plays as a OLB/deathbacker (albeit most likely with some glaring errors). I meant to say that I think that he is better suited if we take position into consideration also. I agree though, both are unique talents and I am glad to have DG and hold out optimism for the remote possibility that we could land WG also.
So what do you see happening with him and PT? With that much talent he might not be content sitting behind Tate or Denard for 3 years.
he'll redshirt, then have two years to be the starter. that's what would work best, the last thing you'd want is for a QB to come in and start as a true frosh. you want someone who knows the system front and back to be in there running it.
Screw you Obes, dashing our QB Force fantasies!
Isn't that exactly what we're doing this year, but I agree red shirt him.
giving up un Sheridan..ha. We are starting a frosh by necessity, not choice...And yes, I have given up on Sheridan after seeing that he could not get the ball in the endzone from inside the ten to start two straight games...
Perhaps this means he'll play wr as a rsfreshman and sophomore and take over at qb as a junior.
It doesn't work that way.
It would be fun to see DG as a WR in trick plays. That could be cool. Not sure if they would ever do it as a RS Fr or So, but maybe when he is playing WR.
BUFFALO STAMPEDE!
I agree that used on trick plays, that would be sweet. But, I don't see DG playing receiver except in that capacity.
Gholston's body might be college-ready but his technique still needs a lot of work. DG is in the same boat but both possess freakish athletic ability. It's going to be a great season and i can't wait.
Gholston is a great athlete, but not a great player...yet. He recently got owned at a camp by a nobody from michigan can't remember his name (think it's Kruse or something like that). He didn't even have a page on Rivals before the camp, but I think he has one after.
Point is that Gholston hasn't touched his football potential and still needs a lot of work to reach the level. Long run hard work just as much as ability will decide who the best player in the state was.
Who gets funny haircuts. But then again, he's a comedian. Also does a good job covering midwest football for Scout.
Trieu is a friend of a good buddy of mine, I've seen his stand-up a few times and he is really damn funny. He went to Grand Valley (as did I). One nite at the bar with my buddy and some friends he had the table rolling as he was making "observations" about the d-bags inhabiting the place.
Tate does well, goes 4 yrs as a great starter... Devin redshirts in 10 and then works in a bit at QB, takes over as a starter for his last two years.
well that's a relief. He's the most objective Michigan fan- observer I have ever heard of.
Well, the fact that the midwest scout guy is also saying that is good for his ranking. He could very likely add that 5th star in the next update. Either way, he's definitely going to move up based on the last couple camps where he was the best player at both.
