Sam Webb and guy from Scout say Devin Gardner is best player in MI

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on
Sam Webb and a guy from Scout watched Gardner perform at a recent camp which all of the top guys from Michigan apparently attended. Both said he was the best player there - Webb said he was easily the best. Webb even said that he was the best wide receiver there, better than Ricardo Miller. I recommend listening to the clip, even though you have to get through a short part about a stripper pole: http://www.wtka.com/index.php?fuseaction=home.podcasts_sel&id=1682

Not surprising. It's amazing how good of an athlete he is. I know that at the majority of the camps he's been to, he has worked out at WR and DB just messing around and has dominated. He is an absolute freak of a kid. With some polishing of his mechanics he has the potential to be a great QB for our program. That being said, I don't think that he is the best recruit in Michigan. In my opinion, he has the greatest potential but I don't think that's what's used to measure the "greatest player in the state." He has the potential to be dominating at 2 positions, however currently (RIGHT NOW) he isn't as college-ready as a guy like Gholston. Regardless, I am VERY excited for what the future holds for DG and Michigan.

Sorry, I just reread what I wrote and realized that it didn't come off the way I intended. I agree that Gholston needs some work too, the point I was trying to make was that at his position, Gholston is more college ready. By that I mean that he has the ability, despite his need for some coaching, to play and make an impact earlier than DG. He has the physical ability, like you mentioned, to come in and make some plays as a OLB/deathbacker (albeit most likely with some glaring errors). I meant to say that I think that he is better suited if we take position into consideration also. I agree though, both are unique talents and I am glad to have DG and hold out optimism for the remote possibility that we could land WG also.

Gholston's body might be college-ready but his technique still needs a lot of work. DG is in the same boat but both possess freakish athletic ability. It's going to be a great season and i can't wait.

Gholston is a great athlete, but not a great player...yet. He recently got owned at a camp by a nobody from michigan can't remember his name (think it's Kruse or something like that). He didn't even have a page on Rivals before the camp, but I think he has one after. Point is that Gholston hasn't touched his football potential and still needs a lot of work to reach the level. Long run hard work just as much as ability will decide who the best player in the state was.

Tate does well, goes 4 yrs as a great starter... Devin redshirts in 10 and then works in a bit at QB, takes over as a starter for his last two years.

Well, the fact that the midwest scout guy is also saying that is good for his ranking. He could very likely add that 5th star in the next update. Either way, he's definitely going to move up based on the last couple camps where he was the best player at both.
