Russell Wilson to announce decision at 3:30et (Wisc/Auburn or MLB)
If the Badgers get him what does this do for their prospects this fall since he can play in 2011? Seems as if they are making a pretty big deal about him so is my assumption that this will improve their O by a good measure, correct?

To me it wouldn't make sense to go to Wisconsin. Auburn has an offense that's tailored to Wilson's strengths, and he doesn't have to worry about Auburn being a dirty program, because he only has to spend one year there. By the time they're found to be evil and self-destructive, he'll have hit the road.
auburn has a lot of rebuilding to do this year. wisconsin seems like the more logical choice if he wants to come in and win, which ummm... presumably is the case if he only has one year.

why do a lot of fans think that a loss for other big ten teams is a win for michigan? i personally want all the best talent to go to any school in the big ten. i would rather be .500 in the big ten with all our teams killing another conference, rather than michigan going undefeated in the big ten and all our teams get destroyed.
before i get negbanged for saying this, i probably should say that i lived a couple years in alabama. needless to say, anytime i brought up michigan, i would get gangbanged by the SEC faithfull. that was the start of my love for all big ten teams, except for when those teams play michigan.
People are hoping that Wisconsin will beat other Big Ten teams. This will worsen others records and help Michigan in the conference standings. At least that is my understanding
yes i would, b/c in a bad conference, all our teams will get exposed during the bowl season anyway. so while winning the big ten is great for michigan in a big ten discussion, but if the conference is bad, then that big ten championship means little in a college football discussion if our conference gets destroyed in the bowls. since i don't live in big ten country anymore, majority of my discussions are college football, so i always hear "OSU is the only team in B1G and they get destroyed every year in the BCS"... i guess my point is, i want our conference to have the success that the SEC has been having, minus their dirty recruiting...
your logic is severely flawed. i did say that i would prefer michigan go .500 in a strong conference than go undefeated in a weak conference, but that doesn't mean i don't want them to go undefeated in a strong conference. my feeling is this, michigan is going to win its fair share of B1G championships, i just prefer that the conference is strong.
here is another way to put it. if i were an indiana or minnesota fan, i would take any B1G championship i could get, which would most likely be during a weak conference year is ever. but i am a michigan fan, so winning the B1G championship is not enough, i want to win our bowl game, and the best preperation for that is strong conference play.
just out of curiosity, where do you live? i am in the military, so it is not just the SEC fans i have to deal with. If you haven't noticed, our conference BCS performance has not been the greatest lately. if you ever have a conversation about college football outside B1G country, i'll give you a hint on how it will most likely end, "your conference has one of the worst bowl records, so who cares what your record was."
Wisconsin recruits many of the same players from the midwest that we do. Their excellent seasons over the last two years has helped them put together what, for them, is a fine recruiting class. That's what winning does for you. While our Michigan 12 class is solid, with a decent number of highly ranked players, it also has a lot of 3 star athletes and no 5 stars, at least not yet. Considering the last three years, it tells you just how good a job Hoke and the boys are doing on the recruiting trail.
Just because Wisconsin isn't on our schedule, does NOT mean we will not play them. The odds may be stacked against us, but there is always the possibilty that we face them in the Big Ten Championship game. They will probably be the favorite with TSIO down, and with Wilson's announcement to play for Wisky.
but it will be his first year in a new system and in a new conference which may lead to some struggles. However, since we do not play them hopefully he brings a dynamic feature to their pro style hand it off offense. If they win a lot of conference games it only helps us in the standings.
PLUS, we know that Auburn pays better for its QBs.....
I hope he goes to Wisconsin honestly, then MLB my second choice, and then Auburn. I just hate Auburn right now after the whole Newton shady-ness that the NCAA turned a blind eye to because they were in the NC race. If it goes to Wisconsin, I really think it helps them a lot, and thus gives them a better chance at defeating our rivals. If we have to meet him in the B1G championship game, then I will have consider this season a success.
I'll be surprised if it's not Auburn. They have made a habit lately out of mysteriously flipping recruits lately.
Most UW fans think they are going to be absolutely loaded next year, with the exception of the QB position. So, they probably think they're a legit national title contender with Wilson.
The kid's going to be a true freshman in that Wiscy playbook, and still handing off a majority of the time. When they need a 3rd &8 conversion, it's usually a pocket pass.
I think Wiscy takes on a big risk if they veer from their standard sets to accomodate this kid. With the guys they have on the roster and who they're recruiting, it doesn't seem like this is a long term shift. If a year's worth of practice time is put toward using a mobile QBs skill set, that has risk for everyone else on the roster.
But what the hell do I know. Disregard if NC State runs a similar pro set.
They would run their same offense just with a mobile quarterback. I imagine it would be similar to the offense we would run with Gardner in a few years.
I live in Raleigh and have seen Russell Wilson play several times. It seems to me that NC State runs an offense similar to what Borges is trying to accomplish this year. They line up in the shotgun a significant portion of the time (more than Borges probably will) but it's not a zone read offense. They try to establish the power running game but supplement that with passing. It will probably change a little this year now that Mike Glennon (traditional pocket passer) will be the QB.
Wilson's specialty is "making things happen". He's pretty deadly on third down plays because he can throw or run equally well. He could be Troy Smith is he wasn't playing at NC State.
Wilson's not nearly as run-oriented as people seem to think. Don't get me wrong, he definitely can run and do it well, but he's been a pass-first guy all three years at NC State. After taking out sacks, he only ran it 104 times last year (and that surely includes a few scrambles on designed pass plays) compared to 534 pass attempts (573 dropbacks, if you include times sacked). Cam Newton and Denard ran nearly 250 times.
I don't think it would be as serious a transition for Wilson as many people think. It would be adding another weapon (a QB who can run when things break down) to Wisconsin's arsenal, but they aren't going to ask him to take snaps back there and be Denard, just like NC State didn't.
Scheme wise it seems like Auburn, or continuing his MLB dream, would be the best route for him to go. Not sure how tough Wis playbook would be to learn in such a short time, but I think I remember alot of talk about Newton having a very simple playbook at Auburn.

he certainly wasn't very accurate from the field (only 58%) and 14 INTs. His rushing ability hasn't been anything to get worked up about either.
IMO he'll take the money and go MLB.
I would say that's partially a product of his team being terrible. The previous year, he was one of the most efficient passers in the nation, and as a freshman he set an NCAA record for consecutive passing attempts without throwing a pick.
His offensive line was god-awful each of the past two years, and he was one of the most sacked QBs in the nation two years running. I would say consistent pressure had a lot more to do with his step back in passing than an inability to hit receivers.
He already took the money. He was a 4th round draft pick in 2010 with the Rockies. He has not done well the last two years of A ball.

<br>Last year he hit .230 with 2 HRs in 122 ABs This year he is hitting .228 with 3 HRs in 192 ABs. Not very impressive. My guess is he is playing QB this year. His upside looks to be football.

he finished his undergrad in 3 years. Rather impressive to be able to graduate in three years while on an athletic scholarship given the time commitment football requires. Not that NC State is exactly an academic powerhouse, but it certainly bodes well for his aptitude to quickly learn a new playbook and system compared to someone like Newton.
