Rumor-Warriner to Jax and Sherrone Moore to coach OL?

Submitted by WoodleyIsBeast on January 23rd, 2021 at 7:04 PM

Neg me to oblivion if this doesn’t happen, however there has been some chatter on Twitter that Ed Warriner is heading to Jacksonville to join Urban Meyer’s staff. Sherrone Moore has been rumored to be the replacement OL coach.

Urban won’t raid Ryan Day’s staff, but ours is fair play. Par for the course.

Don't be hard on yourself. It's a bad title, but those happen. The premise could be reworked ("heard rumors from a guy named Alex Bricker that Warinner was moving, anyone know anything about this?") but overall it was a legit issue and yours was the first thread to really break the subject.

It's just a thread title. Most of us have posted stuff that is way dumber than that.

Said this in the Bricker thread but getting Bellamy on staff is huge for in state recruiting. And no reason to think a TE coach, who played Oline in college, is unable to coach Olinemen. Seems likely that TE blocking schemes were part of the overall protection gameplan so he is likely familiar with a lot of Warinner’s philosophies.

There's always a chance of pulling an inside straight or something and producing a miraculous turnaround.

But the probability of such an event decreases with each drip of news. A team that turns around the defense, grows the OL, and has a Moorhead-Gattis combo running the offense? There's a chance for a real surprise. A program where only young guys who can quickly get other jobs in a year while moving up the ladder are willing to work as an assistant? That's a ship with the lifeboats already prepped and ready to launch.

Remember that JH had a long talk with WM about what was needed to take Michigan to the next level?  Bet you a change of the current culture was very high on that list, and thus we have 5 new coaches and all under the age of 45.  Sounds to me like JH will get a few years to implement these “culture” changes.  Bet there is no 2022 Campbell barring complete collapse by 2021 team.

Brett McMurphy just broke it: Ron Bellamy, a former Michigan WR who coached West Bloomfield High School to the state Division I title Saturday, is joining UM’s staff in place of departing OL coach Ed Warinner, sources told @Stadium

Sam is reporting:  Moore Co-OC and OL coach

I mean, sure, but as you noted the two are completely different situations.  I'm not happy Warinner is leaving, but if you're going to bring a new guy onto the staff it's not uncommon to get a young guy who coaches successfully at the HS level in your state, especially if you are looking for a bump in recruiting.

And Moore seems like a guy who should be able to step in an be pretty good at coaching OL given his background and time on the staff.

That's a false dichotomy. Moore is apparently moving over to coach the OL; Bellamy will coach something else. Well, perhaps--for all I know he might be the best staff addition this offseason. The combination of the news somewhat obscures the problem here, perhaps deliberately.

It sucks to lose him, but I get a career college coach nearing 60 wanting to take a shot at the NFL and this is his likely only opportunity.  And Moore is a great recruiter and probably going to at least be okay as a coach given his background.

He's sort of stuck as college OL coach after his OC run at OSU went south, so I'm not surprised he moved.  I assume UM kicked the tires with some OL coaches but I honestly don't know if any you'd like get would be better overall taking a swing at a young guy like Bellamy with connections to the state and bumping up Moore.

Rumors a few weeks ago that Moore turned down Oklahoma to stay at Michigan.

Was he promised OL coach if he stayed? Was he eyeing that position given his playing days?

He’s what, the #7 recruiter in the country? So the question is if Moore’s recruiting + OL coaching abilities will be > Warinner’s coaching experience + recruiting.

Lot of UM fans clamoring for coaches who can recruit. It appears they’re moving in the direction of younger coaches who can presumably fill those roles better.

Edit: Just saw tweet that’s now a Co-OC. Good move if that’s what it took to keep him.
