RR Will Be Coach for the Next Month
This can be locked and doesn't require discussion but instead thrown up to decimate the Lynn Henning article and the 9 other bs notions that have gone out and around the past week:
UM Ath Dept officials told WTKA that the evaluation of the football program will be like all teams -- after the season, including postseason (HT: MichiganInsider)
Rodriguez will not be fired Monday. He will not be fired after the game Saturday to a chorus of boos by the OSU faithful. He will not be fired in the Shoe. He will not be fired with a fox, he will not be fired in a box.

To me it is a better sign for Rich Rod that Brandon is sticking to his original plan of evaluating the coaching situation after the season like all other sports. When you have a boss coming out and feeling the need to support you in the media that means he is too worried about what the fans and the media think. Dave Brandon's job is to do what is best for Michigan athletics. He gives credibility to sensationalist radio talk shows and newspaper columns when he starts feeling the need to stand up for someone who he may feel is completely safe in his job security.
When Dave Brandon starts constantly coming out in the media and reassuring people that RR is the coach, that is the beginning of the end. Jerry Jones was supporting Wade Phillips publicly all year right until he fired him. Public support means nothing in my opinion. When you start addressing the topic of a coach being fired as an AD or an owner you begin to acknowledge that there is a chance he will be fired and we have no idea that DB is even considering it. Why discuss it with the media when you could simply go up to Rich Rod and assure him that you support him as your football coach. That is much more reassuring than having an AD giving credence to the idea that you may be fired at the end of the seaon by giving reporters the idea that their opinions matter and they need to be addressed.

One thing I think we can all agree on: beating the hell out of OSU on Saturday would guarantee his return unless it's discovered he had been sacrificing human babies to satan for the win. (And even then, who knows... it's just been... so... long...)
Things are getting less and less bearable both in the media and around here. I know people won't be able to save this discussion until after the bowl game, but can we at least save it until after the regular season is over?

"catch" up to the offense necessarily, it needs to improve to somewhere in the 30's to 50's ranking wise to go along with it, and allow us to you know, actually stop a good team from scoring 40+ points. If we happen to be at a point next year where we hold 9 or 10 teams under 30 points, we just might have a very good year.

if you look back at all the articles from last year virtually every single one said he was "gone" after the OSU game.. Flash forward another year and even with 2 more wins and possibly 8 or 9 wins still out there everyone is saying the same shit again for hits on their webpage or ratings.

But this is why the Henning Windmill of Lies was so damaging: the rivals site lead noted the article, and it was a big reason why he was waffling on whether RR would be back next year. Then King heard that, and spent the rest of the day saying "I trust that rivals guy, and it's the first time he's waffled, so I don't know anymore..." FWIW, King believes RR should get another year.

What that guy said, and what Brandon said in the tweet, aren't necessariy irreconciliable. Even if Brandon officially won't conduct the evaluation until after the bowl, it seems likely that right now, he has an idea of where he's going.

that guy's response is the epitome of "trying to look like i have legitimate info" guy.
he makes zero declarations in either direction and comes to conclusions based upon facts that are either unproveable or grey. Name one thing in there that could not be deduced by reading a message board in his numbered points:
1. "A decisions has been made one way or another." - I'm not even going to touch that. It's completely impossible to prove.
2. Stating the obvious
3. Obvious. Only element I disagree is Gibbs. He will likely have his job duties limited down instead of the catch-all he stands as now. He is way too heavily involved in current recruiting with important prospects while it seems Robinson has been isolated.
4. Unproveable phantom talk that is a) obvious and b) derp. Brandon is smart enough to not leaving Michigan without a head coach for a period of time. IMO Martin should have been.
5. What?! Even if this were true, why wouldn't it be true from day one of D Brandon's tenancy? The OP attempts to sound like he has info when, in fact, his information is counter to the logic that it also implies Brandon is allowing such behavior right now.
6. This has been exposed by myself and others because it made zero sense. The popular meme was "Grad Assistants have been told to look elsewhere so obviously RR is fired."
I know you're not hitching your wagon to this guy's post but it's "insider talk" like that which causes chaos once the person who people feel has been legitimated due to his vague comments starts guessing. For the past 4 months I can vouch that the mods were vetting anyone who claimed to know something specifically to avoid crap like that. I've had info I waited on and info I've run to avoid even looking like this guy.

I'd bet the house an annoucement isn't made on Monday about coaching changes. Just interesting to hear what someone has heard given their ability to have posted accurate things in the past.
I'm not, in any way, saying that I take it as fact - just something to read and give pause to while you await your Thanksgiving break. You can now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

M lost to Wisco, probably the best one-loss team in the country. We knew it was going to happen. They're going to probably lose to OSU. We all know this. Whatever.
I'm gonna go have luch with my grandma now and hear her talk about my uncle (an alum) and how he hates RR. Even when I'm off the board I can't get away from it.

My source down here in Houston (random drunk guy at bar) said that Jerry Jones had talked to Les Miles about having Jim Harbaugh recommending Brady Hoke to whisper in Mary Colemans ear about having someone talk to Wade Phillips about being the D coord. At the same time Jerry had called Bill Martin to confirm that Jimmy Johnson was going to go to Ann Arbor to be the O coord. and when UM plays Alabama in Jerry World 2012, Jimmy and Wade would kidnap Saban in the shower and force him to be the next Dallas HC.

If true, I'm mildy relieved to hear it. Regardless of what happens with RichRod, I hope it's handled with grace, as opposed to what goes down even at peer institutions (see Minnesota x 2).

Sure thing -- it's a thinly veiled shot at SEC schools where it's more likely that champion axle salesmen (or maybe pine tar salesmen) and boosters will "call the shots" with the AD and *demand* that the coach be fired RIGHT NOW. In many such cases, the demand will be met.
Note that this pattern isn't SEC-specific. Minnesota's coarse AD went nuts a few years ago after watching the Gophers blow a big lead in a bowl game and summarily dropped Mason.
Again, I'd be disappointed if Brandon did anything that reeked of an emotional (as opposed to carefully measured) response.

If Rodriguez is going to be fired, it almost has to be on Monday or very shortly after. The top coaching talent becomes available in December and if you're changing direction, you sure would love to have these 15 bowl practices as a head start.

I don't understand this thinking at all. When Bo retired, he did it after the OSU game. So did Carr. Programs who fire coaches routinely do so after the last regular-season game. The rationale is obvious: to get a head start on finding a new coach - and December is a popular hiring time. Personally, I think the real "hillbilly" thing to do would be to pretend like RR's in charge of things while going behind his back and lining up the new guy. I want the decision to be made - whether it's to retain or fire him - as soon as possible. I'm tired of the uncertainty.

What else would we expect the athletic department to say? This has been Brandon's mantra all along. Yet in the paper yesterday, he specifically singles out John Beilein as a winner who will be here coaching at least through the completion of all the facility upgrades. So he reevaluates all coaches in every sport in each season except the number 2 sport? That blows the 27 sports are the same canned quote to bits.
Going and playing well or poorly against Texas A & M or Baylor isn't going to alter the facts of life as far as what David Brandon has already done in his evaluation. If anybody thinks he hasn't been evaluating and deciding all along in arguably a top 3 prestige institution at one of the world's great universitys, they are out in LA LA land. Recruiting in this sport is big in December and your best coaching candidates are available in December.
A decision has likely been made or mostly made either way. Common sense would say that if something isn't done by the start of bowl practices, Rich is safe.
The lousy postseason set up in FBS with the lame month off v. all the other sports makes it the least relevant for evaluation purposes.

Beilein has been given a vote of confidence because Dave Brandon believes in his mind that he is working with a competitive disadvantage with regards to the facilities for Michigan basketball. He makes it known that he feels like Beilein deserves a chance to be provided a new facility that will allow him to compete with the top programs in college basketball. So he is not going to penalize Beilein for something that the university is at fault for.
It was pretty clear in the article that Brandon feels Beilein is in a different situation than the other coaches involved in Michigan athletics. This says nothing in my opinion about the future of any of the other coaches, it only has to do with the unique situation that men's basketball is in. The facilities are beyond awful. If Dave Brandon is going to judge Coach Beilein he is going to wait til the university is not providing him with a disadvantage.

I was one of the guys who mentioned that I had heard a second hand story that matched what Henning had reported. I didn't start a thread, just put it out there in response to peolpe saying that Henning had made the story up. My point was that I didn't think we could just laugh off this Henning story. At least two other posters made similar comments. None of us "reported" RR's alleged termination as fact or acted happy about it. All three of us have been around for a while too. (For the record - I think Brian is right that RR should stay if he is willing to make major changes in the defensive staff.)
My question is this - do the people on this Board want people who hear these kind of things to come forward or not? I get that there is a difference between someone joining just to post that Forcier is transfering or broke his hand, etc. Those folks are trolls. But, don't we want peolpe who have been around for awhile to let us know when they hear something that sounds credible? Isn't part of the idea behind the blog to generate this kind of user content and its up the reader to judge the merit behind it?

no, i don't want to hear it because, as you noted, it was secondhand and, likely, hellavague. the sheer number of rumors that start is absurd. one night someone created a post that someone had told them fitzgerald toussaint was arrested. crazy speculation ensued. i checked into it, got a couple responses that it was exceptionally minor, and the thread was locked. 3-4 days later it then came out it wasn't toussaint but jb fitzgerald, which was 110% false. the reason for the jb fitz rumor? because people couldn't confirm toussaint had been arrested. come to find out, as originally deduced, toussaint had been stopped on a minor traffic violation, something like driving without/on a suspended license.
unless you know your information to be certifiable, hold on to it. while you might be able to come back and correct it or give more tangential details to it, the 90 people who read it the day of the original posting and haven't checked in to find out more information are busy Derping it to their friends. hell, half of Pat Caputo's information is that exact way. Valenti got destroyed by Ann Arbor radio for citing RCMB info he read off verbatim without vetting it.
i guess what i'm saying is unless you know something's true, the rush to break news likely isn't worth it. i hear something new from people i "trust" that i sit on simply because it's not entirely important. when austin white stuff came out, i sent it to brian and then sat on my hands.
