Ross to reporters: "Here's a Christmas present. You don't have to ask me anymore. He has one year left on contract and is coming back"

Harbaugh win a Super Bowl with the Lions roster.

Caldwell is no better than Schwartz. He is in the bottom half of the league when it comes to coaches.

Now Teryl Austin that is another story. I wish he'd take over for Caldwell. He can actually coach.

Maybe. But most aren't firing someone. The key is probably a combination of roster and control offered. Maybe Oakland (whose QB looks promising) is enough of a draw. Or maybe Atlanta is willing to Nuke the staff. Or maybe Chicago has it's own "come home" to offer. I can say this: it's a good thing Chuck Pagano is winning in Indy. Because that would be the Harbaugh dream team, assuming good terms with the front office.

Scratch one NFL suitor off of the list. Ross deserves credit here; he's done some things that have raised my eyebrows, but despite liking DB he was not an obstacle to a prompt dismissal and has apparently put no foot wrong in the Harbaugh sweepstakes. Contrast to how he dealt with Harbaugh last time when JH wasn't coming, and it's impressive. I genuinely hope Philbin succeeds there and rewards Ross for the confidence.

I would not at all be surprised if there is an informal understanding that, after the Michigan program is turned around and sucessful for a number of years, that a position might eventually become available in Miami should Harbaugh wish to return to the NFL.
