Lawrence Thomas #11 and 5*.  We will be hearing about that for a while.  It would be nice if some of the guys verbally committed made the list along with the guys who are 'considering' us.

2 years in a row now, MSU has picked up a big time, 5-star prospect.  However, they haven't picked up many other elite defenders to put around them.  2 5-stars does not a great defense make, and if one of both of them doesn't pan out or gets injured, MSU is back to an all 3-star defense.

Keep in mind, too, that these guys might only stay for 3 years, and it's no biggie.

Yeah I'm not particularly worried about State getting one or two 5-star defensive players. Even if they pan out it doesnt mean a whole lot if the rest of their talent is subpar. I mean, last year we had a below average defense and we had, as far as I'm concerned, a 6-star defensive end.

I negged you because your post was vague.

Could easily be taken as "no way he should be that high" rather than "he's that high? excellent news."

FWIW, I took it more as the former rather than the latter, but whatever.

Was just trying to understand the situation.  I haven't seen film on Kris or a lot of fluff surrounding him as a top tier guy in this years class.  I'm sure most of this board hasn't either.  So it was a huge surprise to me to find out he is better rated than almost every other recruit we are going after.

I don't thinke there has been the hype over Frost as others because he has stated that UM is his favorite, but he has had difficulties getting to campus. The talent is definately there, but many on the board are waiting for him to get to campus with his family. This will happen for the summer camp, and if he doesn't commit then, hopefully an official visit will seal the deal. Many have also been a little scared that he says WR is his preferred position, but he has since said he is open to playing anywhere. I have always felt quite confident that he will be blue, and got the feeling that others do too, which is making many quiet until the commitment.

Very surprised by Kris Frost and Dee Hart... but great news for us!!

Also, Braxton Miller is #56. Every list I've seen except for scout keeps rating him lower and lower. Since OSU is putting all of their eggs in the basket for him, I am feeling more confident that his stock is dropping.

What I was implying (which I thought was pretty clear) is that we all think Devin Gardner is going to be (or has potential to be) a total game changer.  Because they play very similar positions and are only a year apart, comparing them side by side is relatively acccurate.

Either way, he'll be one of the highest rated QB's in the country the entire time he's in college.

And if I was a OSU fan I would be scared of DG. However, I am relieved because he is 130s instead of consensus #1.

As a Michigan fan, I am scared of Miller, but relieved his stock is dropping.

We shall see..

I think you misunderstood what you quoted - I didn't mean he'll be one of the best QB's in the country, but he'll be one of the highest rated (by Rivals, as a recruit) QB's in the country.  Last year, the highest rated QB was #63, and this year there is only one QB ranked ahead of Miller.  So between those 2 classes, he's the second highest rated QB.  History suggests that there won't be a ton of QB's in the top 50 for the next couple years, meaning Miller will be one of top in the country over that 4 year span.

Well the 2011 list that's out has 1 QB in the top 50, and the final 2010 list has zero (Jake Heaps was the top QB at #63).  The two years prior to that saw 4 QB's in the top 50 each year, but that's not a real high number either.  That means that when the guys from the 2008 class are seniors, assuming none of the go pro early (TP might) there will be 9 QB's in the country who were ranked in the top 50 of their respective recruiting class.

I don't know anything about the QB's in the class of 2012 or beyond, but it would be anamolous to have 5+ QB's in the top 50, and more likely to have 1-2, based on the last couple years.

I can tell that you are neither of the people you mentioned, as you've failed to provide any insight or a sufficient number of commas in your sentence.

Also, if recruiting experts are supposedly people that "do", why are they in a position where making accurate predictions doesn't benefit them, as opposed to being a recruiting coordinator at a school with a football team?

Maybe those who see him at the summer events are seeing a lot more than those who are looking at tape? Dude is from the State of Michigan, he should get more love from this board.

I obviously wasn't in the room (or on the phone) when Hayes said whatever he said, but if a reporter ever wants to do a follow-up interview, he won't put controversial words in a kid's mouth.  So unless the reporter in question never wanted to talk to Hayes again, I'm pretty sure Hayes was trying to do some damage control.

Yeah, Zettel has been listed as a DE for a little bit now, I remember seeing him that way because he was one of the three similar players to the right on Chris Rock's rivals profile.  I'm pretty sure we are recruiting him as an OG, though.
