I agree, it gets ridiculous. I don't know what the purists' deal is, if they just have all day to sit here and police repostings and don't get that some people just pop in for a minute during their work day. Yeah, board clutter is undesirable but shit happens and the overreactions are swift and extreme.

Wait a second. At the risk of being labled a "purist" nobody should just "pop in for a minute" and create a thread unless they've looked to see if the subject has been already posted. This is a community and as one there are norms we all loosely agree to abide by and one of them is to try and avoid board clutter by reposting stuff already discussed.
And please, dont act like those reposting shit are somehow subjected to genuine pain and suffering. They are downvoted, made fun of for a little while and then their post is removed by the mods. It's hardly cruel and unusual punishment.
And in the case where the OP mans up and says "mea culpa" (like this one) nobody even really does that.

I will contend that this issue is a bigger one on this board because of the structure. It lacks the threaded structure that many larger message boards that have come before it - let alone the largest ones on the planet.
People miss message board content when it doesn't appear on the home page. It is easy to miss. I check this site religiously and had no idea this person died.
Also, the lack of threaded replies is the biggest challenge in season when users create more threads for their hot takes, because nothing gets seen.
It is almost as this is a place for one-way discussion, rather than multiple people chatting.
IMO, it is the worst thing about this site, and I love it (as you can tell I've been here for more than 10 years)

It'd really be nice if we had a normally-functioning message board, where active threads move to the the top of the page so people can find them more easily.
I get that it's costly to upgrade software, but this could be a much more active board if the setup weren't so primitive.

As others have said, I'm not going to fuss too much here but man I do have to ask - how exactly did you "search" and not find it?
The other post titled "RIP Demitrius Calip" literally just fell off the front page and sits 8 posts behind yours.
If you put Demitrius in the MgoSearch bar it pops up immediately. Same for the Calip search and same for Demitrius Calip. Any and all search terms immediately pull up yesterday's post.
I'm baffled.

Agreed. My only defense is I must have spelled his last name inccorectly in the search bar. I did not put Demitrius in the search bar and I was not on the board yesterday. Clearly I have learned my lesson.

I shouldn't be laughing when a member of the Michigan family recently passed away but I saw the original post and read through the thread and it made my day!! Posbang for Demetrius and Keith!
