RIP Dan Hicks

Submitted by Michigan Mike '76 on

Another sad day for music with  the passing of Dan Hicks from the dreaded cancer.  He was another bay area musician whose folksy music was well regarded.  With the "Hot Licks", a couple of violin playing ladies, he would rock amny a venue.  RIP, Dan, but your music remains with us.

that someone would die that I never even heard of, or someone that I only new as an old person. At the time the dead were not a part of my life, that perhaps they were a mention in a history book. Well that was a while ago, and many passings ago; now the folks who are passing had an impact on my life . Robert Palmer's passing took me by surprise. George Harrison, Maurice Gibb. Of course now recently David Bowie.

Cha-cha-cha changes!

Nowadays, it's almost like I can hear a little gong in my soul, the sound of mortality, inevitability. Make your mark while you can, and appreciate the days you have left!

I looking at you, Detroit Lions!

I feel like I'm a more than average music listener, especially of stuff from when this guy was active, but I've never heard of him. Sorry, but probably way OT. Bowie he was not.

Nobody ever been quite like Dan Hicks, and most people have never heard of him.

He was also an important figure in the whole San Francisco rock scene, as he was a member of the Charlatans, who some consider the first San Fran hippie (for lack of a better term) band.
