Yeah -- I wasn't sure what was going on there either...hard to believe Rock or Conway aren't 4-stars.
Why am I getting negged for this comment? Not that I care about points but this makes no sense.
There may be some Uncle Jesse haters among us, and no, I am not one of them.
Thank you sir.
Is when you get negged and no explanation is offered. To me that probably means the person that negged you didn't have substantial enough reasoning for negging you to begin with. I think it happens to a lot of people on here. In my experience, if I'm going to neg someone, unless someone else has already done so, I'll at least reply, letting them know why I disagree with their point enough to neg them, but that's me.
I may get negged for this answer, but maybe I'll get a reason as to why (probably for talking about points...)
I negged you because I'm out of ice cream. Hey, you're right! It is better when I explain it! :-]
Guess I can't blame you there. I was just saying that the person I was responding to was at minus 3 for not understanding why Conway and Rock weren't four stars. I don't understand why, if it seems like such common logic, even when others are wondering it too, he was getting negged without someone at least giving an explination. So yeah, when someone says something that isn't too far fetched or just looking for conflict, I don't see why no one at least tries to drop some knowledge their way.
I'm not going to keep explaining my point beyond this, obviously the masses think I'm wrong, and I'd prefer to not dig all 6 feet of my own grave.
I actually didn't neg you. I thought it was a good point, and I'm just joking around.
Except about my lack of ice cream. That shit is not funny.
For 'splainin'.
Probably some cross over from your negbang in the other thread. Next time, just let it go and the sensible ones will usually at least bring you back to 0.
The rankings are fluid and change dramatically after they actually play their senior seasons. Plus everyone knows how many stars were attached to Mike Hart.
Current Jets MLB David Harris is another good example of a 3 star recruit.
Yep, but apparently, he skipped college and went straight to the NFL.
I assumed that, this being a Michigan blog, everybody was aware of a very well known player from only a few years ago.
I supposed if I mention "current Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards" I should also mention that he went to Michigan every time I post on here?
The masses seem to agree with you though.
Whoops... sorry. It was a running joke... People get all worked up because during the player intros during games, David Harris references his HS and not UofM. Sorry for the miscommunication.
EDIT: I also didn't neg you. I was just adding a joke to your comment, not critiquing it.
Ah ok. I originally thought you might've been joking but when I saw the negs I assumed there was some part of the mgoblog population that genuinely demands that UM be mentioned next to any former player's name.
FWIW I think people make way too big a deal out of the NFL introductions. Braylon Edwards ("Lloyd Carr's UM") comes to mind yet again.
Yeah, even Woodson listed his HS during the line-ups for the SB 8 or so years ago. Obviously he still likes his alma mater.
I was under the impression that the Top 250 were ranked today (yesterday it was a list in alphabetical order) and, btw, Breyer is at 187 and Hollowell at 236.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-2602
I'm assuming that means the outside top-250 4-stars are released tomorrow.
No, the 250 came out yesterday, it wasn't an alphabetical list. Today was the rest of the 4-stars.
Balls.
How does Rock go from "Top 250 Watch List" to not even a 4-star.... with essentially zero football activity between both releases?
It means he is at least a high 3 star prospect. The "watch list" only means that they made a "cut" if you will but are waiting to see if they get selected on the first team.
I'm pretty sure the Top 250 watch list has a crazy number of names on it (like 700 or something). The watch list is released long before Rivals has evaluated most players.
I might be wrong about this, but I don't think that they are actually out yet.
I'm with you. Could be wrong, but I can't find anything that says they are out. Can anyone link to an article or profile?
OSU commit Jeremy Cash, not a member of the Rivals 250:

Texas commit Leroy Scott, not a member of the Rivals 250:

Thanks TOB.
I don't know a great deal about Scott, but I watched his highlights on Rivals, and I wasn't blown away. He reminds me of Terrence Talbott, a 3-star from Ohio that Michigan picked up in the '10 class. Scott might end up as a 4-star at some point, but I'm not sure why you're upset about this. Like I said, maybe you've seen film I haven't seen...
Yes, Charles Jackson does hold a Michigan offer.
My guess would be that we don't have much of a chance of grabbing him. You need one of two things to pull a recruit like him from Texas:
1. Strong connection to Michigan (he has none that I know of)
2. A real chance for playing time/superb development (playing time is iffy; history of developing cornerbacks is questionable)
I find it hard to believe that Chris Rock and Shawn Conway aren't four stars. I guess Conway will have to go kill it at more camps again to get a fourth star.
I am sure conway's offer list hurts him to some degree, rock had a lot of early hype but didn't receive all the offers to go with it
How are these comments getting negged? They are not making our recruits sound like they aren't good enough for us.
They are stating a disbelief that rivals isn't giving these guys enough credit as football players to be ranked higher.
It is still extremely difficult to rate him. He has the potential, but remember how we all questioned his offer when he first committed. That is what most of these sites are basing their rating off of for him most likely, and in that film, as many people saw, it didn't appear he had elite speed playing against lesser compitition. I still like Conway and think he's a good pick up, but there are other good WR out there that maybe have more impressive tapes, look faster, etc.
As for Rock, read Magnus' evaluation of him. He seems to be a solid player and hopefully can be a beast with college coaching, but he seems to be high 3-star right now.
I hope at some point the OP can go to sleep, once these rankings are all made public.
They've made some real bone-head mistakes so far.. and it's only the first rankings, so I'm not worried about it. In the end, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rock and Conway as four stars.
Uh, it doesn't really matter what amount of "stars" they have, does it? They're rad Michigan dudes now, that's all we care about.
RIGHT?
Indeed, sir.
The amount of stars doesn't matter, but how good the player is does matter. Stars are merely a predictive measure that are actually surprisingly accurate.
I think the earlier poster was just expressing his confidence that Rock's true predictive rating for football ability is better represented by 4 stars rather than 3.
Regardless of ranking, we have some quality guys in the fold, and we all know rankings change so many times between now and signing day.
I think Conway will be a high three-star initially but move his way to four-star status come fall. Rock has a chance to do the same.

ONLY 3 stars!
For those of you that pay too much attention to "stars" relating to how well a player is going to be here's an example of a failure. He only got 4 stars on rivals too...
Dear Les Miles,
You're less

Douche.
whoops
Seth,
I'm sure this was already mentioned on a previous post but was there really a need for hostility? Are you in a bad mood today? You couldn't let my redundancy slide without articulating a witty response to "put me in my place"?
I really think you ought to take your Long Island attitude and go home.
*and take
*your bullets
*with you
Love Always,

Fawk that shiat.
The 3* Mafia will never be defeated!
Recruiting from the fan perspective is sort of about trust...whether you trust a recruiting service like Rivals or Scout or whether you trust the coaching staff. Right now the three star mafia has more presence that in past years (think Haloscan era, for example) because in having two down years at Michigan some of that trust that comes with winning, some of that credibility I suppose, has been lost for Rich Rodriguez and the staff.
With winning this season...and validation of his last two classes, this will soon enough mediate. Until then, the three star mafia will continue to make an ongoing appearance.
