Replacement for Mikel Leshoure?
I'm not saying this will happen, but I believe it would be a great move .... The Lions should sign Mike Hart. When he's healthy he's a tough runner who doesn't go down easy. That, and it's a huge boost to the attendance. It makes sense to me, but does it make sense to Mayhew?
What are your thoughts on a replacement signing?
Pretty sure he would not make the short list...and highly doubtful it would raise attendance.
I bet Dantonio would say Hart would make that list.
Barwis is still in town...
Barry Sanders.
I like Hart as much as the next Michigan fan, but Leshoure had 2 inches and 30+ pounds on Hart. Leshoure was basically filling the Lendale White role in the offense. Hart is not Lendale White.
It doesn't matter, Mike Hart would be a great replacement. Hell, if Suh got injured I would still approve signing Mike Hart to take his place. It might not win us the Super Bowl, but we'd sure as hell beat MSU every year.
already this camp around the nfl, its not the trainers fault, maybe its the players fault for not being prepared physically because the lockout, or most likely just terrible luck.
not ACL. Big difference.

You could be in prime shape, do 3 hours of stretching and yoga and have all the good karma in the world; there is no way to prevent an achilles injury. If it's going to happen, it will happen.
thomas jones is still available, i think. Tiki Barber?
might as well just sign Walter Payton I reckon.
Option imo, still relatively young (28) and averaged 4.6 yards per carry last season on 71 carries. From Kalamazoo which has nothing to do with it but still kind of cool.
You'd want a back with different running style than Best.
I'd take Steve Slaton or Tashard Choice though.
I'd take Steve Slaton or Tashard Choice though.
EDIT: yes, I know, double post. my bad.
I'd take Steve Slaton or Tashard Choice though.
EDIT: and the dreaded triple post. nice. MGoBlog's server just crapped on me.
That's what you get for speaking ill of Mike Hart.
Lions aren't really struggling with attendance, #2 in the league in new ticket sales and even last year ended up selling out 7 of 8 home games, hell I think the Monday night is already sold out for this year. Hype was not solely on Leshoure's shoulders.
That being said, I'd rather a bigger back than Hart. I'm ready for Hart to quit pro football to join the Michigan coaching staff so he can take over for Hoke.
I'm not surprised about the solid attendance numbers. If there's one thing the city of Detroit has going for it, it's their downtown around the football and baseball stadiums. Couple that with the fact that Ford Field is a very nice fan experience and you've got a well rounded gameday experience.
But, he probably won't be signed by the sad-sack Lions. If he can't find another team I really hope he starts his coaching career somewhere. MH will make an excellent college coach somewhere - hopefully at Michigan someday.
Didn't he go to USC?
Rob
Detroit's been going through them like bottles of water.
What's wrong with Best as our RB? or was this question in addition to him and Mikel together?
Best is not seen as an every-down 'back. He needs a power compliment. Hart ain't it.
Jerome Harrison would probably be the best choice off the FA scrap heap. They should look for a trade, though.
Now what will the Lions do with all of those wheel routes they added to the playbook?
In attendance? What the hell are you talking about?
I think he's saying that the lions would draw in people who are Michigan fans to see Hart play again.
watch some film. he is a solid 1 cut north south runner but he is not a powerback, he is always avoiding contact and rarely breaks tackles.
he is good, he is fast for his size, and he can catch but he is not a power back.
I wouldnt mind them and actually like the idea of hart for a 1 year contract.
hes tough, hes a north south runner that doesnt go down on first contact, he can block very well he can catch and he doesnt fumble.
I can also see maurice morris thriving as he is a solid slasher 1 cut and go type guy. it would be nice to pick up a short yardage power guy because they dont have on on the team but what can you do? injuries happen

Well they just signed Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell. I actually like both of these signings. Both of these guys have been very successful at times, when given the opportunity, in their careers. Hopefully one, or both of them work out.

I'm very excited about the Harrison signing, he has filled in great for the Browns and Eagles when injuries hit, definitely think he's a starting-caliber guy too. Bell will probably be a short-yardage guy but not a bad pickup. When Leshoure is healthy Bell will probably get cut.
Isn't Leshoure out for the year? Assuming Bell only signed for a year (I hope), doubt he has to worry about being cut.

Greg Banks sign with Lions to fill for Fairly?
