We have Tarik Black and DPJ, the best WR recruit in the country. If Collins comes on board, great. If not, best of luck elsewhere.

Not really concerned with what Collins does at this point.

... what Freddy Harris is talking about.  DPJ is ranked even higher based on 247's own ranking system (#8) than he is on the composite ranking (#11).

EDIT:  As of 1/18, 247 is now reflecting what BuckNekked states above.  Not sure why there was a discrepency yesterday.  Either his internet sees into the future or mine into the past.

Henry Ruggs might be the #24 overall receiver--not the #24 overall recruit.

DPJ is currently the #1 receiver on the 247 composite rankings and the #11 overall player.

Ruggs is #158 overall player.

EDIT:  As I mentioned above, some posters seemed to have access to a more updated 247 ranking, which didn't display for the rest of us until today (1/18).  So Ruggs did jump way up to the #24 overall player in the composite (though 247's own rankings have him ranked "only" as the #17 overall receiver.)

I assume that it'll be a fight to the end, but I don't assume Collins is out of the mix even though guys taking a long time to commit despite visiting multiple times isn't a great sign.

You are jumping to conclusions. This could just as likely signal that Brad Hawkins or another  WR will be moved to DB. We should have learned by now that Harbaughs philosophy is to recruit athletes and figure out position when they get here. RBs, LBs, DBs and WRs all have the athleticism to play other positions.

Or it may simply mean that one of the current WRs commits (Hawkins) may switch to safety.  I would be ok with this.  If I recall correctly, there were some positive things about his potential on defense from last year.  Either is good by me.  I like Martin from his Opening clips.

"Michigan now has zero realistic targets* at defensive back. Reports that Michigan is getting back in with IA WR Oliver Martin may not be entirely Collins related; it's possible the fifth DB is going to be a wide receiver they convert, probably NJ WR Brad Hawkins."

I'm all for having a lot of talented WRs on our team. Though Harbaugh has to change his offensive mentality for us to really take advantage of having these guys. I don't think some people in our fan base pay much attention to how many one and two WR formations we run during the course of a game. We don't spread the field often with a bunch of WRs and slot guys aren't a major part of our offense. Some of us are fantasizing about slot WRs because we've seen how other schools use them, but that's not how we use them. A lot of our offensive scheme is designed around the use of tight ends. I'm really hoping Harbaugh will change things up a little with this new influx of WR talent that we've gotten in the last two classes.

This past season, we had two veteran receivers once Grant Perry got suspended. Harbaugh used a wide variety of formations and concepts at Stanford and with the 49ers. I think our schemes last year were more a result of the talent we had (lots at FB and TE, not as much at WR) than Harbaugh's preferences.

Plus, not every highly-rated guy will turn out. If we want to have the option to use 4- or 5-receiver spread formations in the future, it makes sense to have at least 9 WRs on the roster, which is what we currently have with the commits of DPJ, Black, and Hawkins.

Last year Isaac Nauta, a tight end, chose Georgia and their "give it to the running back twice and then throw a bomb and pray" offense over Michigan's four tight end formations. Kids go where they want to go, regardless if it helps them. Hell, Demaryius Thomas decided to stay at Georgia Tech even when Paul Johnson came in to run the triple option. He didn't care that he never got the ball
