Red Wings vs. Bruins - huge game tonight

Submitted by UM Fan from Sydney on

The Red Wings play the Bruins in Boston at 7:00 (NBC Sports Network). Pivotal game, this is. If the Red Wings win, they're in the playoffs. The Red Wings currently have 93 points and the Bruins have 91. After tonight's game, both teams have just one more (our last game is at the Rangers on Saturday). We're currently the 7 seed and Philadelphia is the 8. Even an overtime loss is helpful for the Red Wings, but a win will seal the deal. Getting one point tonight will put much more pressure on them to win Saturday and that will be a tough game, especially considering the Rangers are still playing for seeding.

Boston sports teams are becoming tiresome.

I'm still not over the 2013 ALCS when the cop in the bullpen was cheering very unprofessionally when Ortiz homered and Hunter fell over the fence and he provided no assistance to Hunter who was hurt on the play but stayed in the game.

Rangers might not actually want to win out. A wildcard slot moves them to the Atlantic division and a much more favorable path to the conference finals.

The tie breaker is ROW.

So if they win tonight - tied at 93 pts, but we have 1 more ROW:

ATLANTIC GP W L OTL PTS ROW
y - Florida 80 46 25 9 101 39
x - Tampa Bay 80 45 30 5 95 42
Detroit 80 41 28 11 93 39
Boston 80 41 30 9 91 37

So if we lose tonight and win Sat (assume they win) we still have more ROW.

If we lose both games, and they get an OT or regular win on the last game, we are out.

Bruins fan. Live in Ann Arbor. Thank you for starting Jimmy Howard two nights in a row. I love Bruins - Red Wings matchups and hate the Flyers so I hope we both make the playoffs.

Quinnipiac vs. NoDak/Denver. I really think Denver is a darkhorse. Overshadowed by North Dakota who is the token WCHA/NCHC unstoppable force but Denver has been lurking right behind them. Winner of this game probably gets it all

Important thing to remember here is that, even though with a loss, the win last night wound up being huge and has put us in a position where if either Boston or philly lose in regulation (philly has two and Boston has one) the wings are in. Obviously, if Detroit wins on Saturday, they're in also. They still control their own destiny.
