Recruiting Roundup
I was a little surprised when Sam mentioned that Florida was making a late hard push for Courtney Avery. Any of you hardcore recruiting guys have the story on that one?? Florida has pretty much the consensus #1 class and 1 of the top recruiting bases to pick from and they flew up to Ohio to try and vulture 1 of our lowest rated DB's from our class?? Seems odd..maybe Sam was hopped up on some meds he said he was calling from the hospital. I guess if true it builds the excitement for Aver's arrival if old Bud came out of retirement to try and snatch him from us. Score 1 for the 2-3 stars!!!

I believe Florida hired the DB coach or some defensive coach from stanford and he's been making the push for Florida to recruit Avery.

I hadn't heard about the Stanford coach going to Florida either. Thanks for the info.

Michigan flies in Demar Dorsey for a visit.
Florida hires the Stanford coach that was largely recruiting Avery to Palo Alto.
Florida, therefore, responds to these two facts by making noise about Avery.
Not sure why this is surprising. This is recruiting.
Avery is one of the top 40 CBs in the 2010 class. Screw the star - the kid performs and is smart. He's a worthy addition to any school's class.

I didn't know about the Stanford coaching connection so it was not obvious to me, that's why I asked thanks. Still a pretty good sign, unless they get a decommit they have 4 CB's signed 3 of which are very highly rated plus 3 safeties.
Just for clarification I'm not down on the kid at all. Obviously he is smart, based on his Stanford commitment and from all reports he is cat quick, just thought it odd for Florida to push up north for someone not considered a top 100 guy. The RR scouting eye seems pretty solid, he seems 1st in on a lot of undervalued kids it appears.

How are you not sure why it's still surprising? Florida has boatloads of DBs in this class and they are going after a middling 3 star recruit of ours. Given the Stanford connection, it is still surprising.

Avery is one of the under-the-radar recruits that I've been really high on. He seems to be a very fluid, natural athlete in his film and having been offered after showing well in camp, I trust the coaches on this one. Hope we get him to stay.

UF has 2 slots left and is looking for another LB and OL, their secondary this class is not needing any additions.
you can infer that they would try to replace Dorsey with Avery should he get flipped but there are still plenty of good DBs in florida. I would wonder if UF was there to see a 2011 prospect more than Avery?
Not sure if that is why he is not worried but I wouldn't either

With Florida's depth and wealth at CB, it's hard to imagine players flocking there this time of the recruiting season.
