Recruit says Malzone top QB currently
Top 100 Bishop Luers, IN WR Austin Mack (6'2 205lbs) visited this weekend. He had extremely high praise of Harbaugh (as per usual), Fisch, and staff. He is deciding June 7th and his top group is Mich, OSU, MSU, Tenn, Vandy. He said he will visit again before his decision and will bring his parents that time.
What was more interesting about his reaction, however, was him saying that Alex Malzone is the starting quarterback in practice. He was discussing the fact that this staff doesn't care what year you are in, the best player will play. This could be truth, misinterpretation, or recruiting tactics. I found it to be an interesting quote from someone we know for a fact took in all of Saturday's practice.
Couple this with the statement from user HarbaughorBust in the earlier "Speight v. Malzone" thread that Morris is the clear leader right now. The only certainty is uncertainty, at this point. Obviously, we won't know anything concrete until August.
that JH will appreciate him talking out of school about the QB situation.
He will pay for it next year with lots of windsprints.
No. Windsprints are for winners and for the one's who are most deserving. If anything, he'll be made to stand and watch others get better. Get with the program.
I'm waiting for the team to realize that what JH wants is for them ALL to do windsprints voluntarily. When this happens, everyone will be winners.
No. Losers don't get to improve themselves. If they wanted to do windsprints, they should have been more focused and crisp in practice.
Also, typing that last sentence made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
"sprinkles are for winners"
The coaches don't want sheep.
That depends on if hes on the winnning side
Remember winners get the chance to get better around here while losers get to sit and watch
The punishment is to have to sit out. Those who win challenges get the extra work.
What exactly is the worry here? That Meyer and Dantonio will reorganize their spring practices to prepare for a slightly higher probability that Alex Malzone is the starter eight months from now?
there was a worry, just that the coach might not appreciate him speculating about it publically. I don't think he'd hold it against him, but JH strikes me as the kind of coach who is firmly entrenched in the Fort Schembechler mentality.
If Harbaugh was firmly entrenched in the Fort Schembechler mentality he wouldn't have a steady stream of people coming in to watch practices. Isn't the rule that the probably of a secret getting out goes up by the square of the number of people who know, or something like that?
based on his press conferences only. And for what's it worth, when I was in elementary school we took a field trip to Michigan Stadium to watch a spring practice. So even Bo let people in to observe sometimes. Although, he probably wasn't too concerned about 8 year olds ratting him out to Earle Bruce.
Listen to the answers everyone gives. The Fort is in full effect at this point. The entire staff is great at talking in a friendly, coachy manner without actually providing any information that it would benefit those outside of the program to know.
If a recruit said Malzone is the starter, I am guessing it's because JH wanted him to say it.

What better recruiting buzz than having a highly touted, skilled player taking to social media and personally attesting to JH's willingness to give FROSH a starting chance--even at QB? JH, you sly fox... Let the tall/gangly recruiting types watch Speight run the Ooofense, while the slightly crazy lefties see the Sugar Shane Show. Now if only we can get Iowa's Ruddick all the beef and pork eaters will be amazed.
If no QB can win the job, what is the %chance that Harbaigh just does it himself? Or at least tries?
/s
Jason Harbaugh? Are there any other J names they didn't cover?
So basically no one knows anything? Sounds about right.
I understand having a brief discussion about options, but does anyone actually care who the starter will be at this point?
No.
There's been two threads about who is the better QB today and they have both SUCKED!!!
It's TOO EARLY!
Ummm... you started the first thread that sucked! http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/between-speight-and-malzone-who-would-you-rather-see-start
If true, it would have gotten out anyway so I don't see how or for what reason Harbaugh would hold it against Mack. Spring ball is all about uncertainties and contrary reports on Twitter. Let's enjoy it
I recall that about a week ago Fisch was out there saying Speight, Malzone and Morris were basically getting equal reps and thus far no clear first choice had emerged then, but he also added that each had left an "impression", as he put it and that the competition will never cease.
It doesn't seem like there's much out there (aside from anecdotal tdbits) to make us assume otherwise, and there might not be even after the Spring Game. I would be interesting to sit in on a practice and see for oneself how the competition for QB is going though. I am rather interested to see if we are actually talking about someone having gained that sought-after "separation" from others after the Spring Game, which seems to be the first data point if even you can only draw limited, qualified conclusions from it (and sometimes not even that).
...but we HAVE to try and relax on this QB situation. At least until the end of spring camp. Just pray that each guy is getting better, but what is taking place now has little to no bearing on what will happen in September. It's a small piece to a very big puzzle.
Someone may grasp the offense a week from now and really take off, someone else who seems to be a quick learner may not show the physical tools needed to start. There are a million things that can happen.
Most of all, unless there was a 100% clear leader...our coaches would NEVER give ANY indication of a leader. There's no point. Start the fresman one practice and see how the upperclassman responds.
Allow someone to start with the 1's one practice and then put them with the 3's the next practice to see if he's able to elevate the play of those around him (and to see how he responds mentally).
There are so many variables...just compile as much information as possible before you even THINK about trying to narrow it down.
Yeah thats cool, but we want to know who's going to play quarterback this fall...
Of course there's no reason to get all worked up, but there's also no reason to completely ignore it if you're a addict, and I think its safe to say most of us are addicts!
Unless that one guy is Jim Harbaugh.
inside practice. What we do know is that Harbaugh values competition more than just about anything. I wouldn't be surprised if you went to three consecutive practices that you might actually see three different starting QB's. One thing is for sure, Harbaugh is going to put these guys in uncomfortable positions and see how they respond.
Signed,
Nick Saban
Another A hole! Great.

gently down z loser stream
Goodbye troll
Well he might be like 110.
A major douchebag. Or alternatively, a regular douchebag who lives in Maryland.
yes, let's dump a kid from a scholie who busts his ass for michigan a ton and has already taken a brain injury for the school
You better get on the phone and call Harbaugh to tell him this valuable piece of information.
I wouldn't be shocked at whomever is the leader in the clubhouse at QB. It's obviously been a wide open competition.
With eight QB's, they might end up moving Speight to TE. He has the size, and that would fit in with the Harbaugh's philosophy of multiple TE's, perhaps keep Speight from transferring, and utilize his talents.

Not sure that he's athletic enough for that.
and found nothing because I have no sources in the program
