Quinn Nordin Appreciation
Nordina was 3/3 against Sparty with a long of 49. Last week was his first made FG since Wisconsin LAST YEAR so more than a calendar year during which he missed 5 in a row and now he has four in a row. It was also his longest since he hit a 50 yarder in last year's B1G opener against Nebraska.
With so much going right on Saturday I feel like Nordin's performance did not get nearly enough credit with little to no mention in the podcast or Brian's game column and I feel like I haven't heard mention much at all. With all the ups and downs he's been through I'm not saying I am all the sudden super confident in him but I was definitely happy to see him do well.

Nordin was awesome in the msu game. 49 yards. Woot!

A Nordin 59 yarder to beat OSU as time expires sure would be fun.
November 20th, 2019 at 12:15 AM ^
Or to put us up by 31 at the end of the game would be more fun.

I like your narrative.

BECAUSE WE COULDN'T KICK FOR FOURRRR
November 20th, 2019 at 7:54 AM ^
That sounds terrifying.
November 20th, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
I prefer a Nordin 59-yarder as time expires to beat OSU by 40, but a win is a win.

The fuck you message would be pretty cool.

Where is Moody? What happened to him?
November 20th, 2019 at 12:09 AM ^
Pure speculation but he has missed a few in live action and maybe Nordin is looking better in practice. It does appear Nordin has moved to the front of the line.
November 20th, 2019 at 6:13 AM ^
He handled all of the kickoffs, so he was there.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:12 AM ^
Anyone else hear Harbaugh's comment that Nordin vowed to kick a 49 yard FG from the right hash during his recruitment in a win vs MSU? True story and Harbaugh reminded Nordin of that right after the kick.
November 20th, 2019 at 10:23 AM ^
It sure seems like Harbaugh’s interaction with his players is positive, supportive, and loyal. I get the impression as long as you put in the effort and do the right things, which I’m sure is significant, that are asked of you that Harbaugh has your back.
Nordin could easily have been cast aside when he faltered and Moody stepped up. That didn’t happen.
It’s not everyday that’s the culture in a big time program.

I like that instead of transferring after he lost his job, he obviously worked hard and won it back.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:22 AM ^
Well it’s hard to justify transfer to yourself as “good enough to play somewhere else” when the truth is he just wasn’t performing well. It’s not like other positions where there may be some gray area and you think you’re good enough or maybe you’re just not quite good enough for this team but would be better elsewhere. He was missing FGs...a lot. It was poor performance, so transferring elsewhere would’ve been dicey at best.

just like tin cup, he got rid of the shanks.
November 20th, 2019 at 6:22 AM ^
It’s like when Ricky Vaughn got glasses.?
November 20th, 2019 at 6:37 AM ^
I’m no kicking expert, but I do play golf. It looked line he wasn’t trying to kick the ball as hard as he possibly could and instead had a nice smooth consistent motion. Just my general observation. So maybe 55+ is not in the cards, but if he can look that smooth inside 50 that’s way more valuable.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:50 AM ^
That 49 yarder was likely good from 60+. The good Nordin is likely the best kicker in college football.
November 20th, 2019 at 9:56 AM ^
What I noticed as a golfer is that he was playing a tight draw as opposed to the loose cut he had previously. I hope it is something that they consciously worked on. A tight draw would serve him well. I know there is always a danger that a draw can turn into a hook, but man his kicks looked nice. He can just start the ball at the right upright and let that little 5 yard draw turn in there.
November 20th, 2019 at 9:57 AM ^
Forever wishing I could smooth a draw off the tee as well as he did on that 49 yard FG.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:03 AM ^
He hit a 38 yard FG just two weeks ago against Maryland. 1 for 1 on the day.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:53 AM ^
Yea. Sorry. When I said “last week” I meant Maryland but rereading it I didn’t make it clear. Of course I wish I could edit. “Nordina”, “all the sudden”. Not my best work.

Hopefully this thread doesn't turn out to be something akin to an announcers jinx.

Fire NORDIN!
November 20th, 2019 at 7:21 AM ^
pretty sure nordin made a FG vs maryland.
still nice to see nordin seemingly finding his rhythm though
November 20th, 2019 at 7:24 AM ^
That 49 yard FG was even more impressive since it was into the wind. He had a few misses in a row earlier in the year but we all have to remember that they were all really long attempts. He made the first 60 yard attempt against Iowa but they called a timeout out. He missed the 2nd attempt but it was right down the middle but about a yard short. He has a very strong leg. When his mechanics are right he is a deadly weapon on the team. Kudos to him for sticking it out.
Go Blue!!

Nordin could be a critical weapon against OSU. He has the potential to become a hero of lore in 10 days!
November 20th, 2019 at 8:05 AM ^
Hopefully he sets a game record for extra points made.
November 20th, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
His confidence is definitely growing and he’s striking the ball well. Hope he keeps it going with his strong leg he can be another huge weapon for us
November 20th, 2019 at 9:16 AM ^
Let’s not forget he was the “3 wood” and was only used when outside of 45. That probably had something to do with low percentage.
Good that he seems to have turned it around but kicking is so wish washy who knows.
kid has a hell of a leg and has calmed the “Wild Thing” antics down which is good.
November 20th, 2019 at 9:41 AM ^
Kicking is all about confidence from momentum and he is gaining it back at the right time.
I love his fire. We will need him just like he is now for the next few weeks. Posbang Quinn!
November 20th, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Anyone else notice he wasn't headbutting other teams players, and was much calmer overall. I suppose he gave up coffee over the past few weeks
November 20th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
Just remember Quinn, that if the OSU game comes down to a 60 yard field goal to be made by you, that we'll love you as a Michigan brother no matter the outcome. (You'd become legendary if you made it though so DON'T FUCK IT UP!)
November 20th, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Agreed. There were many things that made me think this team is improved across-the-board since September, but having a kicker who is automatic inside 50 makes a HUGE difference. And though they didn't "need" him to hit one for the W, we might soon. Hoping he has his mechanics AND is confidence back.
