Question Regarding Michigan's 2021 Football Schedule
Is there a chance that next years schedule would see Michigan travel to MSU, PSU and OSU?
I'm curious because would we really get MSU to come to AA for a third consecutive year?
And since Michigan did not have to travel to Columbus, would OSU really come here two years in a row with most likely full to half full stadiums allowed next year?
Probably pointless to wonder about this now but hey, I'm bored. Go Blue on Saturday!

They said they were permanently switching the games between MSU, Indiana, and Michigan. So UM should be traveling to MSU next year and playing OSU in Ann Arbor, then the following year play MSU in Ann Arbor and travel to OSU, and so on. I don't think the programs have officially switched the schedules yet, but that's at least what they said was happening.

Are you suggesting OSU might pull a Soviet style Olympic boycott for The Game in AA next year because we did not play in Columbus this year?
December 14th, 2020 at 3:19 PM ^
No. OSU does their best work in the Big House. Plus, AA is practically a home game for OSU after UM fans sell their damn tickets.

As opposed to the Soviet style Olympic boycott for The Game in Columbus this year?
December 14th, 2020 at 12:49 PM ^
Sure, why not? Probably have them travel to Wisconsin and Northwestern too just for fun. Sports are fun, 2020 was fun.

Whatever benefits Michigan, you can rest assure the B1G will do the opposite.
December 14th, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
My guess is whatever helps OSU is what determines next year's schedule.
The right thing to do would be to play the original 2020 conference schedule in 2021.

I'd say status quo helps OSU. Michigan is going to be in no position to compete with OSU in 2021. Best case scenario for Michigan is that it has some pulse in 2022, so OSU would want that game in Columbus, so no need to change anything for them.

Does Washington get their home game rescheduled for a future season? If not, I wonder if they'd cancel next year's trip east?
December 14th, 2020 at 1:09 PM ^
I hear Warde is going to do the honorable thing and just make it a 1 game series and play in Washington next year.
December 14th, 2020 at 1:17 PM ^
I don't see how that's the honorable thing. They agreed to play 2 games, in 2020 and 2021. The 2020 game got canceled - partly because the Pac-12 and Pacific Northwest - couldn't get their house in order. It's 50/50.

LOL, I think you should have scanned Cincy's comment with a sarcasm detector, Magnus.

Rebuild year so better to have all the terrible road games then.
December 14th, 2020 at 1:36 PM ^
So what? Every year is a rebuild year for the foreseeable future. Not like you can look at our roster or coaches and think "the team will really be playing well by 2022."
December 14th, 2020 at 2:25 PM ^
True, but Rebuild Year 2 is generally better than Rebuild Year 1, at least for successful programs.
December 14th, 2020 at 3:31 PM ^
But in rebuild year 2 the pressure starts to mount to succeed because there is no rebuild year 3, you have to go back to rebuild year 1.

One of the bad dynamics of the Harbaugh era here was having his best teams in years we had to go to Columbus. It probably wouldn't have mattered in 2018, but I still can't convince myself it wouldn't have mattered in 2016.

My guess is MSU and Indiana flip flop home and away to keep number home of games on track. Also, this prevents Michigan going to Indiana 3 years in a row and MSU coming to Michigan 3 years in a row.
Not sure how that effects Indiana and MSU's schedules though.
December 14th, 2020 at 1:35 PM ^
It's flipped the MSU-Indiana game as well. Indiana has come to East Lansing twice in a row now, and next year's game should be in Bloomington.

Any schedules you're looking at for 2021 are undoubtedly pre-COVID. Once the 10-game, conference-only schedule came out it was announced that the B1G was "fixing" the MSU/OSU home/away same year thing for Michigan, so M will travel to East Lansing next season. They also swapped Michigan/Indiana for 2020, with Michigan going to Bloomington for the second year in a row. You may recall that Michigan hosted IU in both 2013 and 2014. With the addition of Rutgers and Maryland, that was one of several matchups played in the same location for those two years.
As for the question of games that were cancelled and any possible change of venue, I very much doubt that the conference will do that. I would bet that Michigan hosts OSU next season and travels to Maryland.
On a related note, MSU also played Indiana in the same location (E Lansing) for the second consecutive season; they will play at IU in 2021.

With new schedules required for the change in divisions in 2014, the Big Ten made sure that no team had two straight road games more than one opponent in both years--except one. Michigan had to play @MSU and @Northwestern in both 2013 and 2014. In return, we got Indiana at home both years. No one really remembers or cares that much since it was part of Brady Hoke's denouemont, but it happened. Thanks a lot, Dave Brandon.

"With the addition of Rutgers and Maryland..."
... Subtraction by Addition??

I wish that these questions even mattered.
December 14th, 2020 at 3:14 PM ^
I just hope OSU is ON Michigan's 2021 schedule. ;-)
I suspect the schedule moves forward as is...odd years in AA, even in Columbus. But my opinion means nothing.
December 14th, 2020 at 3:30 PM ^
They tried the fix the at Michigan State and at Ohio State in the same year. Well that didn't work out. Just go to Indiana for a third year in a row too. All options are probably on the table.
December 14th, 2020 at 9:11 PM ^
I don't think that the B1G will swap locations for games that were cancelled due to COVID. I would expect Michigan to travel to Maryland and host OSU next season.
December 14th, 2020 at 3:32 PM ^
I wonder if any other teams in the B10 are worried about playing us away next year.
December 14th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
Suggest we take this opportunity to declare our Independence. Seems an easier pathway to victory like ND, BYU, Army.
Could keep a loose B1G affiliation like ND does with the ACC and the B1G.

Why would an Ohio state fan complain about that? If warde really is as inept as he seems and he brings back this shit show then Ohio states laughing their asses off regardless where the game is played. I’m just gonna be waiting in the back when 2021 turns into another disaster
December 14th, 2020 at 8:23 PM ^
I only care if we will play @ Washington next season.
