Question about Jabrill Peppers' career
This is my 1st post. I've mentioned this many times among non-Michigan fans and casual football fans, but now that I can MGoPost (lol), I've always wanted some opinions from people who actually watch Michigan as thoroughly as I do.
I have always felt that Jabrill Peppers would've been (and currently would be) better utilized as a full time Running Back. To me it always seemed like he made (or could've made) more game changing plays with the ball in his hands than he ever did defensively. His skill set and abilities just fit RB more than S, imo.
His career offensive #s at UM overall weren't incredible (45car 239yds 5.3ypc, 10rec 82yds, 5 rush TDs) but alot of those touches were gadget/gimmicky plays and even so, he had some big plays offensively. We all saw how amazing he was in the return game. I would've loved to see what he could've done with 20 carries a game. Am I wrong for thinking he definitely could've out-produced Deveon Smith(who I love as a player, but still).
I absolutely loved Peppers at UM, but at the end of the day his Michigan career will always be disappointing in my view.
Anyone care to discuss this while we wait for the season to kickoff?

I heard a rumor that someone died a while back but I can't remember who it was.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:06 PM ^
Is this implying that this topic has already been discussed? If so I wasn't around for it ?♂️
August 11th, 2019 at 8:10 PM ^
To be fair, you did post about it in April. The topic of Jabrill's talents and how the staff employed them may cause a flare up of PTSD around here.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:13 PM ^
Just wanted to get my opinion to the masses lol. I'm sure I've made comments about it before.
August 12th, 2019 at 8:34 AM ^
Why should the masses care what you think? Are you a football savant? Of course, you’re not just a regular fan with an opinion.
August 12th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
Are you a random internet loser? Ofcourse you are.
August 12th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
Negging stupid assholes isn’t just fun, it’s good for your health.
August 12th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
What is so lol that you ended your sentence with it?
August 11th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Jabrill Peppers is disappointed in your fandom.
August 11th, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
agreed
August 11th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
I 100% agree he was electric
reminded me of a bigger Percy Harvin. He was a great of D obviously but thought the upside in offense was much greater. However, we will never know as hindsight is 20/20 all I know is he was a joy to watch wherever he played at Michigan.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:16 PM ^
I agree he was a joy to watch. Loved watching him play. The 3rd down @OSU when Samuel ran around the whole field to make it 4th & inches will always bother me though. Peppers had him cornered wayyy back before he switched field... tried to dance with him instead of attacking for the tackle.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
I hate to be that guy, but my lasting memory is that play as well...

Jabril Peppers would've been the perfect #SpeedInSpace weapon.
Oh well.
August 11th, 2019 at 10:43 PM ^
Oh my gosh... depending upon what Gattis comes up with, JaBril would have been his guy for sure.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:12 PM ^
I agree. Watching some of those wildcat plays showed a bit of what Jabril could do with a running start. He has both real speed and football speed, just a way of accelerating past guys closing in. Makes you wonder what would have happened if the mantra of "speed in space" was the philosophy when he was here.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:13 PM ^
Man, what could've been!
August 12th, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
Especially if he would have actually thrown a pass while lined up in the wildcat formation.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
Not to be rude, it’s clear you have no idea of football, I’ll suck it up and be the guy to entertain this nonsense. For years and years and years even back to the Carr level Michigan would get destroyed on the outside, The Coaching staff used Peppers in a way that he set the edge on almost every single play, and he did it so well. Peppers taking an unselfish roll which took away from his stats allowed Michigan’s defense to become elite. Same with Gary if you don’t see it on the tape then idk what to tell you, soon in Green Bay you’ll see Gary be unleashed and his talents will show case.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:20 PM ^
Here we go with the "set the edge" stuff lol. Same excuses are used for Gary. Hudson plays the same position and out-produced Peppers defensively in 2017 (yes I'm aware of the #s against Minn but Peppers never put up those #s while playing that position). Stop making excuses for guys who don't get it done when it's time to get it done(eg. Curtis Samuel 3rd down run).
But yea let's just go with "you don't know football" lol.

Delete your account.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Why?
August 12th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
Because you come across as a 12 year old ending your sentences with "lol".
August 12th, 2019 at 7:01 AM ^
There was never a play during the entirety of Pepper's career on which he went unaccounted for.
Hudson enjoyed an entire game during which he was almost entirely uncovered on passing downs.
Thus the statistical edge.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:24 PM ^
What is unselfish about playing the most important position on a Don Brown defense? Especially since he won a ton of awards doing it?
August 12th, 2019 at 8:30 AM ^
You lose the dumbass fans like OP.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:24 PM ^
Peppers never got sent on a blitz? Never covered a crossing route? Never played nickel? Never dropped back in coverage?? He didn't make the plays that bigtime defensive players make, period. Has nothing to do with setting the edge. You must not know football.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
I know a lot of fans think Peppers' Michigan career was disappointing but I thought he was an extremely good player during his time in Ann Arbor.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:59 PM ^
Just stop
Edit: Keep going if you don't want to be able to create a thread again
Edit 2: Stop drinking and go to bed

Completely sober but thanks. Maybe I should have a drink?
August 11th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
Or just stop replying
August 12th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
No shit. This assclown has racked up about 400 negs in this thread but hasn't let that be a deterrent to continuing to post.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:29 PM ^
Neg me all you want guys lol. I'm just being honest. I wish he was that defensive playmaker we all thought he'd be. He never forced a fumble or recovered a fumble and had 1int in 27 games at Michigan because he was too busy setting the edge. He should've played RB.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
You’re right. You’re my choice for next coach.
August 11th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
Didn't he recover a fumble and return it on MSU's sad 2-point conversion attempt?
August 12th, 2019 at 4:58 AM ^
Seriously? The recovered fumble stat? Also known as being lucky. And he didn't play deep at all. He didn't play in a position where he's likely to get any interceptions.
August 12th, 2019 at 6:42 AM ^
Actually he was playing somewhat deep when he got his 1 career int, against osu.
August 12th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
Recovering a fumble isn't a skill as it is shown not to be repeatable and basically more luck than anything else
August 12th, 2019 at 9:16 AM ^
I will agree with you on Peppers, he was very good at what he did. Maybe not elite, but good. Gary, good as well, but we sure as shit were killed on the edge against Notre Dame and OSU last year. IMO, Peppers was a better player here.
August 12th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
Thank you sir. But I did play NCAA and created fast players for RB. Please explain this difference.
August 12th, 2019 at 12:58 PM ^
Is taking an unselfish roll better than taking a Kaiser roll? Giving you shit - you make good points about both Peppers and Gary taking unselfish roles.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Peppers was the all-around MVP of that '16 team. He had his fingerprints on all aspects: Defensively, Special Teams, Offense, Media, Style, Leadership. He really doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Revealed a lot to me that the backups to his positions were freshmen. He gave it all he had that season. The Heisman committee recognized it also, as it's assuredly doubtful he got there just based off of his excellent punt returning.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
I agree. Jack of all trades. My post was made to argue that he would've been better off as a fulltime running back, retaining pr duties as well, obviously. Maybe the team wouldn't have been though? But with the way Khaleke has outperformed him at Viper, it sure looks like UM could've used Peppers' explosiveness more on offense.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:37 PM ^
Yeah, and Charles Woodson should have been a fulltime WR. Speculate all you like, it won't change a thing and it's stupid since Peppers has been gone for 2 years now. Let it go.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:41 PM ^
When they recruit players to play viper, do they say the Peppers position or the Hudson?
August 11th, 2019 at 8:45 PM ^
Hopefully after this year they'll say Hudson. And if we're talking strictly Viper, they should say Hudson. He already has more TFL, Sacks, INTs, FFs, and FRs than Peppers ever had at UM.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
Peppers only played it one year and had only a spring and fall camp to learn it, along with it being inside of an entirely new defense from a new defensive coordinator.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:08 PM ^
True. What point are you trying to make(legit ? not being sarcastic)? That just proves he didn't set the edge "nearly every single play" as one commenter argued, and goes to show that even at S in 2015 he was disappointing defensively.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:28 PM ^
Sheesh! ??♂️ (legit reaction, no fabrication)
August 11th, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
Oh ok now I understand your point.
