are shitting bricks about him leaving.  Their defense is taking a hit with graduation.  The fans know Shoop is just about the only quality in game coach they have.

Shoop's stock will rise if he departs to Tennesse and does as well there as he did at penn state and he'll avoid the perception of failure if he can't get what is left at penn state to perform like they did this year.

The 800 lb gorilla in the room is suspicion that the asshole paterno apologist alumni and trustees are constanting reminding the football staff of the paterno way of doing things.  O'Brien alluded to that dickweedian behavior when he left penn state.

BTW...fuck penn state and the paterno apologists.

the scandal broke? The alumni get to elect nine members to their board of governors. They elected a slate of nine Paterno apologists who have been continually fighting with the administration and the NCAA over rejecting the Freeh report and the sanctions they agreed to, getting Paterno's wins and statue restored, etc.

I'm sure not all PSU alumni agree with them, but as a group there is little doubt where they stand.

Dude you are really overreacting here.  No one is talking about the "institution."  This a sports blog.  I have a lot of friends and acquaintances who went to PSU and on the whole they are annoying as hell as fans.  That doesn't "say a lot about me," but thanks for being condescending. If hating on opposing teams and their fans is too mean for you, then mayeb a sports blog (or being a sports fan, in general) isn't your thing.

"Extrapolating from the acts of a some members of an institution to the entire institution as well as to all past and future members of that institution..."  Are you serious?  Who was talking about future members of the instutution?  "I sure hope the adjunct professor of philisophy 152 at Penn State in year 2065 gets a flat tire on a super rainy day right after buying expensive shoes and she doesn't have any spare shoes to change into so her new expensive shoes get irreparably damaged by water and maybe a little mud too." Nobody said that.

Seriously, many believe Sandusky was set up so that some cabal of B1G member schools and NCAA folks could tear down Paterno's legacy, because, get this, everybody in college sports was jealous of Paterno and his Grand Experiment.  They think Paterno ran the cleanest program in the history of sports.

They want the bowl money share back that they were docked during the sanctions period.  The want the B1G cenure rescinded and they want an apology from the rest of the B1G.

You know what?  Fuck them.

They are already attacking this guy...

I was in Ann Arbor in 2014 and I heard zero people saying "f*** Penn State" and I had zero people saying anything negative to me.

In fact, all I saw around town before the game was LOTS of inter-mingling between U-M fans and the visiting PSU fans.  And no incidents.

And I've seen the same thing at every other non-State College game I've been to since November 2011.  TWO DOZEN of them.

Real life is always more representative, and always several orders of magnitude less bombastic, vs. the internet.  Never get in an internet pissing match.

I grew up in western PA and know a ton of people that went to and go to PSU.  The place has zero remorse or accountablity to what happened there.  The school is trying to get the record re-written about Paterno and all the people/students still defend him to this day.   They see nothing wrong with how he handled the situation.  So yes... fuck PSU.

Regain what status? Those that keep saying MSU has been good because Penn State and Michigan have been down don't make sense. MSU and Penn State have the same number of big ten titles since Penn State joined the conference. For most of the time they've been in the conference they've been mediocre outside of 1994, 2005, and 2008 and maybe a couple others.

I went to the Penn State game this past season and I also live in PA currently. PSU fans aren't too high on Franklin for obvious reasons. They do view Schoop as their one bright spot and really like him, so this move could make the PSU fan base even more restless with Franklin.

The D was the only decent part of Penn State's program.  If they lose that, they are really struggling.

They are recruiting well . . . but the current staff can't wait any longer for success.  By the time the benefit of the new recruits kicks in, they'll be broomed out.

I definitely agree. Penn State did finish with the 14th best total defense in college football this past season which is very good. But as you said, the good recruiting class they're bringing in won't matter to this coaching staff because there might be a new staff in 1-2 years.

Word is as long as the buy out (800k) is taken care of, he's at UT. Would be a big get for UT who has a 'now's the year' kind of season setting up for 2016. Much more inspiring than the Debord hire. Certainly helps UM; hurts the B1G.

Hard to call them a powerhouse just yet. They completely melted down in the 4th quarter in every game this year that would've been considered a statement win for them. Oklahoma, Florida, and even Alabama were all winnable games for them, and they folded in every one of them in the 4th quarter.

Granted they're young and definitely loading up on good talent, and they should be considered a divisional contender next year, but they need to take that next step and have a big milestone win before I'd say they're "back."

But  douchey James Franklin loves hiring new assistants and checking out their wives:

"I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant coach until I've seen his wife. If she looks the part, and she's a D-I recruit (one of the nation's best-of-the-best), then you got a chance to get hired. That's part of the deal."

FUCK penn state!

It is very hard to understand. Jf is a grown, married family man with daughters, who is supposed to be a father figure and a leader of men. He can think whatever he wants, but to proudly proclaim that to the world makes him sound like a 13 year old boy who just hit puberty. Also, believe it or not, some men marry a women for more than just looks.
