Pryor's Suspended License Makes the News
The Free Press just put out a little article on Terrelle and his driver's license. Yes, it is suspended, and yes, he has been seen driving on it.

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, already under investigation by Ohio State and the NCAA over whether he improperly received cars and other impermissible benefits, has had his driving privileges suspended, according to a spokeswoman with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Pryor's license was suspended last month because he had no proof of insurance when he was stopped by Columbus police for running a stop sign Feb. 17.
"His suspension was related to the Feb. 17, 2011 conviction," said Lindsey Wayt Bohrer of Ohio's BMV. "His court date for this was April 2. We didn't receive the paperwork from the court on this until April 14. Then we give the customer 30 days notice before suspending. To lift the suspension, he must show proof of insurance from the Feb. 17, 2011 date. As of now, he has not shown proof of insurance. If he shows proof of insurance, the suspension will be deleted. If he does not show proof of insurance, he will have to pay the reinstatement fee and be suspended through at least Aug. 18."
Despite his suspension, Pryor drove up to a players-only meeting Monday night in a used black Nissan 350Z sports car with 30-day plates, according to the Associated Press. Calls by USA Today to Pryor were not immediately returned.
Pryor already is facing a five-game suspension next season for trading Ohio State football memorabilia for money and tattoos from Columbus tattoo parlor owner Edward Rife, who pleaded guilty last week to federal drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges.
Pryor's football coach at Jeannette (Pa.) High, Ray Reitz, said Pryor is being targeted for Ohio State's NCAA troubles.
"He's a scapegoat," said Reitz, now coach at Latrobe (Pa.) High. "That's what I see. He's been in a fishbowl since he's been there. It's a life's lesson in how fast people turn on you."
Reitz said he hadn't talked with Pryor recently but had been trying to reach him.
When former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel first found out about players exchanging sports memorabilia for tattoos and cash in April 2010, he e-mailed Jeannette businessman Ted Sarniak, who has been described as a mentor to Pryor and was involved in his recruitment. Reitz said that while Pryor's connections to Sarniak, 67, might have raised red flags, Reitz never saw any improprieties.
"It probably wasn't a good thing when you look at it from the outside, but I didn't see anything as far as gifts being exchanged between the two," Reitz said. "I didn't see Teddy doing anything wrong, as far as violations."
Anyone else see him completely blow that red light in the ESPN highlight? Just throwin' that out there too.

Anyone wonder how many college students could take a $30k Nissan for a test drive with a suspended license? Improper benefit, anyone?
the vehicle is registered in his mothers name . Not to mention that specific model he was driving was from around '06. So you can find them for as low as $12k and up to $22k. So there is a chance that this one is legit. However, I do realize how unlikely that is.

Granted it isn't impossible, but 8 cars in the past 3 years? I believe this was with only two or three dealers, so somewhere he had to pop through a second or third time...clearly special treatment because he is a OSU football star.

DWLS is not a big deal to me. For a while, this was the single most common crime in MI. And taken alone (e.g., without it being due to DUI, vehicular manslaughter, etc.) it just isn't that exciting of a misdemeanor.
What is a very big deal is explaining how a car dealer can justify putting out a "loaner" Nissan 350Z to a guy without a valid license. In my experience, no dealer will even let you test drive a car before they get a copy of your valid license and run a credit check. (Of course, maybe I look a bit dodgier than TP.) And I'm sure the dealership's insurers also insist upon any test driver being fully licensed. Also, the dealer's franchisors and lenders likely insist upon this.
Bottom line is it will be really fun to watch the dealership explain why a college athlete without a license gets to demo a car for days/weeks on end. I'm guessing that letting unlicensed drivers demo cars is not SOP at any dealership, and thus this is further evidence of TP getting special treatment. (Also might make a certain car guy sorry he signed an affidavit.)

Pryor has his license, in his wallet. He produces it, they photocpy it. There is nothing on the license that indicates is is suspended. It appears valid, and is unexpired. Only by letter-notification of a couple of weeks ago, and by operation of law, would it be "suspended." Nothing on the face of the operator's permit would indicate that it was a suspended license. No one would know, without actually caling the Ohio BMV.
I see your point, about what the dealer does and does not know. Wouldn't Terrelle be making a serious misrepresentation at that point though? I doubt the dealer's insurance covers uninsured drivers . . .
As Brian pointed out in one of his blog entries. He wondered, rightly, if Pryor has ever had any freaking auto insurance! After about 3 or 4 moving violations.
And of course this whole notion of Pryor and his multiple car deals fails on about a dozen other dimensions.
Honest question, as I have never taken a test drive: do you have to attest to having a valid license? It would seem like you would for insurance purposes.

I have test driven cars, and when you do so, they always ask for your license, and then they go photocopy it for their records. So, clearly they require a license. What I can't remember, though, is if they ask you, or if you sign a form, attesting that the license is valid. You might not have to do that, as it is somewhat implicit. I really would like to know . . .
To test drive, not really. The dealer will normally make a copy of your license as a CYA but that is it. They don't call up the DMV to check you out.
Here is how this likely went down. Car was purchased in his mother's name. Thus when she goes to buy insurance everything is clean since her record is clean (I assume, the insurance folks handle the license check normally). Dealer gets paid, sees the proper insurance paperwork (in her name and the fact she could get insurance means she is clean with the DMV) and issues a temp tag/hands the keys over. The dealer has all the paperwork he legally needs, he knows Pryor has a license (in that he has the piece of plastic with a photo on it) and does not need or bother to do any further checking. So no issue when Pryor drove it off the lot.
That is basically how it went down when I bought a car in college. Dealer looked at the license in my wallet but nothing more. Since it when in my father's name all the paperwork had his name on it, but the dealer handed me the keys since my dad was in another state (the paperwork was all just faxed in). The dealer even commented how it was a good idea to put the car on my parents' insurance instead of in my own name. The only extra paperwork he asked for was a signed letter that I could take delivery of the vehicle.
This is the sort of aha moments that causes the whole paper mache facade collapse.
Clear cut evidence of special treatment because of his football association, or does this auto dealer regularly give out test drive loaners to tattooed guys with NO job and a suspended license.
Just listening to another one of Pryor's "enablers" , that HS coach of his come to his defense and try to paint Pryor as a Victim makes me want to puke.
That HS coach needs to learn a thing or two about doing the right thing in society and being accountable for your actions. Pryor brought this mess on himself and now must bear the weight of his stupidity.
No way Id ever want a child of mine to play for that HS coach... if i had litle pincherbugs which I dont...

... everybody is a scapegoat, nobody takes accountability. When are we going to start acting like adults and take responsibility for our actions? TP is an idiot for doing what he's done, Tressel is a HORRIBLE developer of young people for allowing them to get away with things normal people would not get away with. What people are calling "protecting", I call coddling. I don't want our kids to be coddled in college, I want them to develop into honorable men and women who understand the consequences of their actions.

Just watched the "everybody kills people, murders people" clip again and you know what, TP's just a kid. I'm not giving him a pass. What I'm saying is that there's no question he lacks the maturity to handle all of his success.
If you compare him with Denard, it's night and day. You can tell Denard has a real strong sense of right and wrong, and his humility is off the charts. When interviewers try and compliment him, he squirms, looks uncomfortable and immediately credits his teammates.
TP really needed a strong father figure and a short leash. It's too bad for these kids's sakes that JT came up so short. These kids were student athletes. They shouldn't have had time to hang out at tatoo parlors. If they weren't at practice, or working out, or studying film, they should have been in class or doing homework.
I think both "sides" are right. Pryor is being scapegoated and isn't the only person at fault here, but every single one of his problems is because of decisions HE made and all of his bad decisions came from his sense of entitlement. So, if people are piling on, it's because Pryor willfully put himself in that position in the first place.

Whether it's Tressel, Pryor, Rife, G. Smith, Gee or any of the other players or Compliance personel. They are all knowledgeable enough to know simple right from wrong.
Tressel proved he is just like any other coach in a high-pressure, high-profile job, win or else. He tried to put himself above the program and the rules and got caught.
Pryor is a tool who would sell his mothers shoes if he got enough $$. He's a spoiled kid with a warped sense of entitlement. He will get his soon enough and the NFL will not be his final destination.
Smith needs to learn that the truth is more important than image. When he's canned from his AD job AND the head of the bb selection committee, he might start to wake up...I doubt it though.
Gee was beat up as a kid and should get summarily canned by the BOT if they have any stones.
That whole university is on the verge of crumbling.
