Predictions for Mich/Iowa bball
Michigan returns home tomorrow at noon on BTN against hawkeyes. The way Burke is playing there isn't a guy in country that could stop him right now. This team will play well and get another home win to keep us unbeaten. I look for Nik to light it up tomorrow from deep. Also McGary is due for a breakout game. On the call is Gus Johnson tomorrow ready to hear rise and fire.
Michigan 82
Iowa 58

I predict that with 5 minutes to go in the game there isnt a starter for MIchigan in the game.
Hey....does anybody know why ClearEyesFullHeart stopped doing his previews? I really looked forward to those before each game. He provided a bit more "behind the scenes" analysis and historical perspective (plus lots of cool pictures for those of us like me with short attention spans) than we normally see on the front page IMO.

I called him out in my half ass attempt at a NW preview, but no response.

Is there a guard in the Big Ten who can stop Burke right now? The first answer would be Craft I suppose but the way Trey is playing I think Craft is in trouble. It is going to be interesting to see how teams defend him. If you are Indiana, do you put Oladipo on him? Then you have to live with Hulls and Ferrell on Hardaway and Stauskas, which would not end well for them.

which would be Cody Zeller. It only makes sense.

I really didn't expect the Hawkeyes to only lose by four points against Indiana. Some Iowa fans are even saying they could have won if Basabe didn't get hurt during the first half, but I don't know about that. He does seem to rebound and block well, though. And Coach McCaffery says Basabe will play tomorrow. Still, I predict a smooth Michigan win, 92 vs. 74.

I go with a close game prediction, Michigan wins in a blowout. So, with that said...
Michigan - 79
Iowa - 70

I am liking the fact that a 9 point victory in conference play is now considered a "close game." It is good to be Michigan right now.

Iowa is a solid team, but I expect us to play well considering this is the conference home opener. Michigan wins 80- 67.

I expect us to play well considering we're good.

They have a lot of scrappy players, but their talent is way behind ours. We should be very happy with a double-digit win.
U-M 81 - 68 Hawkeyes

This might be the first game where we have an opponent that is relatively close to us in several major statistical categories.
For example, we average 79.6 points per game, whereas Iowa is not too far off with 76.1 points per game. On offense, the average number of rebounds and assists are within a few as well. Iowa gives up slightly more per game on average, but the Hawkeyes actually edge us out when it comes to defensive rebounding and effective FG percentage (they can hold teams to about 40%).
This will be a rather hard fought game, I think, but it is the conference home opener, and I think we are the better offensive team overall and we have the edge on overall talent, I would say. I'll go with Michigan in a 74-62-ish performance.

Man, Gus Johnson is the man. He has a special place in my heart after the bit on Tosh. 0, also Mich - 76 Iowa - 63. Boom goes the dynamite.

Prediction...Mclimmans goes off.

@ Minnesota will be the first real test. They will beat Iowa easily 91 - 73.

Anyone see Iowa's schedule this year? They caught a good break. Only have to play Michigan, MSU and OSU once this year.
January 5th, 2013 at 12:42 PM ^
95-67, the good guys.
I really see Michigan continuing to get better and better. Stauskas was "off" last night, but still was in double figures. McGary has already been good, but when he starts making a high percentage of the bunnies off offensive rebounds, watch out. I am sure Horford will also return before too long.

Since it's at home, I've got to like Michigan by about 20. Something along the lines of 84-64 or so.
